Derrick Harvey?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3512224

Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio broke from his policy of not discussing contract negotiations to express frustration with the Harvey talks, according to a Florida Times-Union report.
Del Rio told the newspaper that the demands of the defensive end out of Florida were "ridiculous" and "outrageous."
While Harvey's holdout from training camp stretches to a week, Del Rio said that the rookie is definitely losing ground.

I know there were quite a few people on this board who wanted Harvey.

As a Gator fan (I've been saying that a lot lately), this guy had no business whatsoever being drafted in the top 10 or even the first round. Jacksonville will eventually win this tug of war then they'll discover over the course of the season that Harvey is not as good of a pass rusher as they thought him to be.

Lombardi reports "...I thought Sedric Elllis looked very fat for his first Saints work out today -- VERY FAT....

I believe Keith Rivers also remains unsigned. Good thing BB & Pioli didn't wait for the #8 & #9 dominoes to fall before signing the #10 pick. :)

That was me! I liked the idea of a younger pass rusher. Obviously a willingness to learn and improve is of critical importance to BB & SP, it seems Mayo is eager to absorb the knowledge from the veteran players. And if Crable evolves the Patriots have added two skilled players inside and outside.

I have have to dig through my notes to find some of my other draft "gems", I tend to only to remember the guys who work out, not those who crash and burn.

It must be frustrating as hell having some kid who's never played a down in the NFL acting like he owns the place.

Maybe Derrick Harvey think's he's the next Shawn Merriman...if he' right then his hold out might be well worth it.;)

Ironically I was sitting there watching the draft hoping and pleading that we would not select either Rivers or Harvey. I definately wanted Mayo. The other two just didn't appeal to me. So far so good. Watch one of them go out and get 16 sacks now.

I know what you mean, i really liked Rivers for this Team.:(

Wait, there were people who actually wanted to use that first-round pick on another defensive lineman?

You bet it is. Quenton Groves, our 2nd round pick has been signed at least, and there's been some pretty good reps on his skills as a pass rusher.

I'm just hoping this doesn't turn out like the Jamarcus Russell holdout of last year.

The Jets ridiculous deal with Gholston is the reason for holdouts with picks #7 #8 and #9. The Pats were fortunate to have signed Mayo before the Jets F'd up the works.

As for Harvey I was high on him until he showed up at the combine at 270+ lbs and ran a 4.9. He is a late first rd talent and IMO Lawrence Jackson will make a better pro.

Still, Harvey should become a solid player once he actually shows up, and y'know, plays.

I really, really, really wanted BB to draft Groves. I think Jacksonville could end up with the steal of the second round in Groves. The longer Harvey sits out, the better for Jacksonville because that means more reps for Groves, which will make him a better player by opening day.

And although I initially hated the pick of "hold the" Mayo, he is starting to impress me a bit. I honestly thought he would be injured by now, so we'll see how he does in the first preseason game.

PS: If we could not have Groves in the second, I am glad we got Wheatley. I hope his wrist holds up for the entire season.

I suspect that Groves might have been the Pats second #1 that was lost to the Ratgini nonsense.

Although Quentin does have one drawback that Belichick didn't like. His IQ is lower than room temperature. I know that Pass rush OLB/DEs don't need much, but the BB Defense is still complex, and that would have hurt Quentin in BB/SP eyes. he likes his LBs to be thinking types.

On the other hand, BB/SP obviously were targeting Crabs from the late second onward. Perhaps they would have passed on Crabel for the spare NT that they need, if they had drafted Groves. Say Red Bryant from A&M that I rated as the best NT in the draft with the possible exception of Kentwan Balmer, whom I not sure is even a NT, too.

It appears that the next draft will be a traditional BB/SP draft... DL, OL, CB, LB, TE

Can't stand the Gators and I could never understand why so many "experts" had Harvey going to NE in their mocks. Looks like NE really dodged a bullet this time.

Lol...please don't let that be his nickname:D
