Anyone see the article on the Tyree miracle catch in this week's SI? I managed to read it without vomiting, interesting article. They interviewed a bunch of people including Jarvis Green and the back judge, but didn't touch on the one thing that I thought was the most compelling in reviewing the play, that being, was Eli in the grasp? If you're going to talk to the back judge, why not talk to Mike Carey?

Note--I'm not saying the Pats lost this game because of poor officiating.

I saw the article...skipped it and moved on...but Yes I would agree about the grasp....

I thought everyone canceled their SI subscription about 10 years ago?

he wasnt in the grasp....it wasnt even really all that close, the jersey was grabed but for a second and never really in a way that Manning was in danger of being thrown down.

You might be able to argue holding but.......damn its a new season why am I banging my head against the wall

Did they overlook the fact that it was Asante who blew the coverage, making many people think Harrison was at fault on the play?

Let it go. "In the grasp" is a judgement call anyway. They judged correctly as he still made a play out of it. If not the Pats didn't play until the whistle. Either way, legit play.

Agreed. Just let it go.

Did they say anything about Ass-ante's inexplicable drop of an easy interception that would have won the game before Tyree would ever get a chance? ?? Two strikes against him, strike three being that it was an extremely half-hearted attempt at making that pick and he seemed to take an "it's-all-good" attitude afterword.

As I said before, he'd already earned his huge FA contract long before that game. For him, nothing really to be gained by HIS TEAM WINNING THE MOST MEANINGFUL GAME IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL at that point. If it would have happenend, just gravy on top for him personally. Newsflash, the Pats have no use for selfish players.

He's a good player and was a good Patriot for several seasons. That being said, good riddance. f

An easy interception? Yeah sure what ever you say. Had Asante re-signed with the Patriots i'm sure you would be like the majority of us that have said it would have been a difficult INT.

that interception was like someone was tossing him the ball in a game of catch.

Yeah, i'm sue it was. In that case you should have suited up.

Dude, the ball went right through his hands.
He just whiffed. It really was not that difficult a catch to make....

No. The writer noted that there were several unnamed Patriots players who felt this way.

No, he was dead to me after that

You're probably right. I didn't take an opinion on the matter, but I do think it would have been interesting to see exactly how close they were to blowing it dead.

Mike Carey actually said during an interview that he should have blown the whistle on Manning but didn't. That's all I needed to hear to know that there was special treatment.

You have a link to that interview.

Two points to my post here.....

#1 - STOP crying, you fu(king babies already! - 2007 is gone and nothing your little typewriter skills or fandom could have done to prevent the loss.

#2 - I never really loved Samuel but after watching the SB twice during the offseason,I can positively say that IMO the throw from Eli that Asante did not intercept was NOT as easy as some of you say,
If you watch the play the ball was a bit high and not like it was in the numbers for him and it appeared as if it might have had a good zip on it as well,
Was it an opportunity for an INT with a perfect jump and catch? - Yes,it was certainly possible -
Was it an easy catch? - NO.

jeez......stop bumping this thread!
The title alone makes me have nightmarish-flashbacks.

Step back from the grassy knoll, time to move on.

Yes. An easy interception for you or anyone else off the street...probably not, but for a so-called "franchise" player that wants to be paid as the best in the league, that was an easy interception.
