with a bunch of unknown prospects mixed in. Apparently this is very close to happening.

Seems like there's six gazillion rumors out there :

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

Getting Bay basically straight up is as good as they can hope for I would think.

I underestimated just how desperate the Sox are to get rid of Manny immediately. I guess they figure that there's no way the Sox stand a chance this year with him in the clubhouse. The Sox are very tough to watch right now, that's for sure.

"John Perotto reports that discussions on a three-way trade between the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates could also include Jack Wilson and John Grabow.
Manny Ramirez to Florida, Jason Bay to Boston and Jeremy Hermida to Pittsburgh would be the foundation of the deal. Perotto, who said earlier this evening that a deal sending Manny to Florida was on the verge of getting done, doesn't follow through with that here. However, he says that talks are alive and that multiple variations have been discussed. In one version, the Red Sox would get Wilson from the Pirates and give up Jed Lowrie. In another, the Marlins would acquire Grabow in exchange for pitching prospect Ryan Tucker."

I wouldn't like the Lowrie-Wilson piece for you guys (I have no favorite baseball team). The bonus with Bay is you get him for $7.5M next year. So you take a downgrade on the field this year but not a HUGE one and get a clubhouse upgrade. Plus you get Bay next year when Manny would be gone anyway.

Lowrie for Wilson would be terrible. Maybe thats what has to happen for them to give up Bay, but an expensive SS with a career .645OPS is not what this team needs. Especially since he's still controlled for next year.

Unless they could then turn Wilson and Lugo/prospect into Tejada. Just throwing ideas out there.

i dont like it either...i think Lowrie is a solid SS and is cheap.

Stanton is awesome looking but I think he's either staying with Florida or going to Pittsburgh.

that would suck...so we would end up getting Bay for Manny then. I guess you have to get something for Manny at this point because there is no way he is in Boston next year.

According to Will Carroll (the guy who said Santana to Boston was a done deal, so take it with a hefty grain of salt), the deal is done and Boston gets Bay and John Grabow for Manny and a prospect. Depending on the prospect that could be about as good a deal as they could ask for.

I have a feeling we'll find out as soon as this awful game is over. Orsillo just hinted that we'd find out one way or the other as soon as the game's over.

The Manny Ramirez trade conversations are expected to continue into Thursday, according to a source. Because it's a very complicated deal, involving a player who has the right to veto the trade and other parts, it is still unlikely to happen. But the negotiations will go on.

Definitely the most trustworthy source.

Some reports are saying that Boston actually gives up 2 or 3 prospects in the deal. Yikes.

Heres the actual post from Carroll:

We Have A Deal But …

by Will Carroll

The Commissioner’s Office has been informed of a deal involving the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins. The Commissioner has to sign off on any deal involving cash considerations of more than a million dollars and there was clearly going to be cash involved in any deal. There’s also some formality about Manny Ramirez waiving his 10-5 rights and no trade clause and I’ll admit not understanding the technicalities.

So here’s what Pee Wee Herman would call the “big but.” The teams, I am told, have not agreed on the specific prospects to be included in the deal. It’s expected that in addition to the principals, the Red Sox would get John Grabow and give up two prospects while the Marlins would get one prospect and give up two. There’s still a lot of haggling but my scribbling notes make it look like the structure of the deal is:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

There is still potential for this to fall apart over the prospects, though things appear closer now than ever before.

Tho has been so farm-oriented the last few years that he isn't going to give up too many prospects in this deal. The only thing is that if he does, the Sox have still freed up enough cash with Manny being gone to repair whatever else they give up. Bay's salary is astoundingly low considering his value, so the Sox are going to have an extra 15 mil on hand next year to maybe make a run at Sabathia.

good point by Gammons...Manny still has to sit down with management and sign some papers...so this will probably go down to the wire on Thursday if it happens

"so the Sox are going to have an extra 15 mil on hand next year to maybe make a run at Sabathia."

Why in the name of Christ would the Red Sox back up the money truck for that overated tub of goo, who never has and never will be a money pitcher?

Unreal.

After the trade the Angels pulled off with the Braves, they are FAR and away the WS favorite at this point.

I don't ever recall a Red Sox team that has gotten swept as many times as they have this year, AND there's still two effin months to go. They absolutely blow on the road, now they can't win at home either, a whopping 4-8 out the gate for the second half of the year, getting swept twice by the Angels and almost by the Yankees, 1-5 at home vs two of the top four teams in the AL.

They are about to get passed by the Yankees, who were what, 10 effin games out and now they are one game behind the Red Sox?

Pitiful.

Umm what? How exactly is Sabathia an overrated tub of goo? He's probably gonna win another Cy Young this year, and I don't know about you but a rotation of Beckett, Sabathia, Dice-K, Lester and Wakefield sounds downright disgusting to me.

I agree here, but the Sox are just cold right now. Whether Manny is the cause or not, I don't know, but the Sox seem to think so. The talent is certainly there to win the AL East though.
