Hey all … here’s the link to an interesting story about LaMont Jordan’s signing with the Patriots. (Scroll down.) According to the story, Jordan’s release from the Raiders was contingent on him not signing with the Broncos or the Patriots.Whoops.

So I take it that was nonbinding...

Hate to think someone in our employ would double cross such an advocate of fair play as big Al.:D

Good. Anything that pisses off Al Davis and his brown teeth makes me a happy man. Seriously, that man is destroying his own organization. Kiffen is a good head coach and can turn that team around without the old Ikeman breathing down his neck. Just take a seat somewhere, Davis, and watch from the luxery box. Hopefully, Jordan rings up over 100 yards against the Faiders next season.

Such a 'contingent' release is against league rules. Whomever is blabbing over in Oakland had best shut up soon, because Ommissioner Clouseau will be knocking on doors in a hurry otherwise.

I'm waiting for AL to become the headcoach.

Eh, I can easily see him knocking on our doors over some false tampering charge... even though we didn't tamper.

Goof ball should have told them they were free to negotiate a new deal with a team and bring it to him before he would cut him, kind of like as in a sign and trade.

The agent represents Jordan and its his job to get him the best deal he can, wherever.... and if Davis were to bring 'charges' against the Patriots, I can see the league slapping him for trying to impose an unenforceable agreement on the player.

Why does Al Davis even care if he comes to the Pats. I can see the Broncos (Division) and I suppose we do play the Raiders this year, but it's not like the addition of Jordan is going to be the difference between the Raiders winning or losing that game. Looks like someone has a grudge.

I was thinking the same thing.

He's still pissed about the tuck rule game :D

Thinking about it for a second, it really is no suprise at all that someone with a huge ego like Davis would hold a grudge against the Patriots who took a player that Davis' team had labeled a has-been with the value of only a 4th round pick and helped him produce one of the all time great seasons in NFL history. Every one of the 23 TD's Moss caught likely got Davis a little PO'd.

That too :)

I'm betting it is more the Randy Moss trade where he looked like he got hosed.

Anyway, if he wannted to be sure of who Jordan was going to go too he could have shopped him around for a conditional 7th. But he over paid early for Jordan and no one would have taken the inflated contract. IIRC.

That's what I was thinking. This is hilarious. I completely understand the Broncos.

The article said that was the case.

San Francisco Cronicle said:
One day later, Jordan signed with the Patriots. Davis felt burned by last year's Randy Moss trade to New England, where he caught an NFL-record 23 touchdown passes. Davis did not want Jordan to experience a similar rebirth in New England, which visits the Coliseum on Dec. 14.

You hit the nail on the head. The Raiders traded a washed up

player called Randy Moss to the Patriots. Boy, were they wrong!

Al Davis's hair is going to be on FIRE when Moss and Jordan scored 6 TDs in a Pats vs Raider game.

It's something to watch.

I agree. This is sort of like Rumania being annoyed that the US built one more nuclear missile. We're not in the same division, and they're trying to return to a level commonly known as "don't suck", not trying to compete with us in the near future.

He can't do that, Al Davis that is.

And if he did not want him to go to a team that has a chance in the Post-Season perhpas he should have kept him on the roster. The dude is a total nut case.

Al's problem here is simple, if Jordan comes to New England and produces at a high level that will be TWO, count them TWO, major transactions he has screwed up and let happen in two years to the same organization......Randy would be No.1 - Funny stuff!
