iam surprised how much goodell is taking interest and how much favre is using his media clout to keep burying his old team by speaking to media members openly.he seems to think the packers owe him a release or he will show up in camp and be a distraction.doesnt seem to mention he played for 12 mill and yr and not for charity.

Hopefully, Commisioner Clouseau is shortening his tenure by sticking his nose where it definitely doesn't belong.

He has no business getting involved in a Team's personnel affairs - - it is the TEAM'S business, not his. He has overstepped his bounds again and should now have pissed off more than one or two owners. He has now stepped on many toes. I hope he is ready for a really short term as Commisioner. All his former backers must be getting quite tired of his overbearing interference by now.

King is now openly the official mouthpiece for the Doofus in chief.

This was unclear last season, but he has since unmasked himself. As I noted in several other threads, which were not received particularly well, King's role seems to be court reporter for NFL office. Pretty soon I expect an epic poem in Goodell's honor, in rhyming couplets, from Fatso.

I will always remeber the Doofus enthusiastically declaring the NE NYG Sb to be "the greatest Super Bowl ever!" after the game. I don't see how a football fan could objectively have that opinion unless the outcome was the one he had hoped for. The game itself was an uneven display, sprinkled with numerous unforced errors, and long stretches of nothing, framed by a false scandal of his own creation.

I could do with out the circus but I would like to see him come back. Perferably in a division other than ours.

Maybe it's just me and my very humble opinion, but a 39 year old Favre doesn't really scare me any more than Pennington does. I just don't believe he would thrive playing the Pats twice a year, in fact I believe BB would own him before it was all said and done.

No, you are not wrong at all, and in fact, for a Commish who was so concerned about the integrity of the league and all of that during a certain videotaping episode which shall remain nameless, all of a sudden he doesnt seem too concerned with "integrity" by offering to help out one team sort out a roster/personnel mess caused by an overbearing, selfish athlete, when he doesn't do the same for any other team....or is it, that Favre is the only overbearing, selfish athlete in the league and therefor a unique case?

No, you're not wrong. You're absolutely correct. This guy has little, or no, understanding of the appropriate scope and boundaries of his office. I heard Bob Kraft on Sirius Radio this afternoon singing Goodell's praises to the heavens. By the way, the Movin' the Chains Show with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwin was broadcast live from Gillette from 12:00 to 4:00. Interviews with Kraft, BB, Tedi B., J. Mayo, Scott P. How refreshing to listen to 4 hours of football talk and in 3 hours (I missed hour #1) I never heard the word "Spygate" uttered once. They took a lot of calls, many from outside NE (mostly Favre-related), but a couple which reflected jeaousy toward NE and our success. Kirwin and Ryan responded by basically telling such callers that they should spend more time hoping that that their teams were run more like the Pats and less time whining about our success. It was real football talk among pros at its best. I couldn't help but think how shallow the crap we listen to and see daily (read: Felger and Tanguay, et al) is compared to deep thinking about football.

For years we have been watching a myth building exercise, where Favre has been lavished with undue praise by fawning mediots, eager to portray him as not only a great athlete, but a legendary almost Ruthian figure. This praise disguised the reality of the man, who is a self-centered arrogant egotistical prick, with penchant for big game gag jobs.

Fortunately we are now seeing the real Favre, his myth shattered in front of our faces, like a football Humpty Dumpty; and not all the Peter Kings and other sycophants can put this phony's peces back together.

I wonder how much Peter King had to lie and cover up for years about Favre to hide his true face from the public.

If the man has changed his mind about retiring and wants to continue playing, why is that 'wrong'? If Brady had an annual "will he/won't he?" and kept coming back, people in New England would be soiling their pants in delight.

And, for the record, the Packers "owe" it to Favre to take him on the roster or release him once he formally unretires. Frankly, I'd love to see them try keeping him and paying him $12 million to be the team's backup quarterback. That would be one less team to worry about, because the implosion would be heard around the world.

Unlike most, I didn't hate Goodell for the spygate punishment. Yes, he could have and should have handled it better, but with his "clean up the league" persona I didn't hate it. I believe the owners and management of each team felt the same way. While they weren't happy that a commonly used, dishonest practice came to the forefront, I think they were fine because they weren't the ones that got caught.
That said, stunts like this WILL get on the nerves of all owners and management. The other day it was reported that Goodell told Thompson to resolve the situation. Is he kidding? There's nothing to resolve! Favre is a retired player! These teams MUST be allowed to run themselves. I assure you the owners and management of NFL teams will grow VERY tired of Goodell telling them what to do. Why do you think MLB owners love Bud Selig? Because he lets them do whatever they want. Goodell just doesn't understand the NFL will never be a flawless league.

Nobody can tell me that Favre is not the better QB for the 2008 Green Bay Packers. What has Rogers ever done to earn the guarantee of the starting job??

He hasn't done anything wrong? If giving the media daily updates on what your GM is supposedly pleading with you to do or not to do after you put him in a no-win situation isn't something wrong, then what the hell is? If he'd retired then decided he wanted to play again and formally requested reinstatement, nobody would have a problem with it. It's crap like demanding unconditional release and leaking conversations to the press and publicly calling out your GM for being dishonest that is getting people fed up with him. Your hypothetical is pointless because Brady won't have an annual "will he/won't he" simply because he isn't a drama whore.

As for what the Packers owe him, I agree with you and never argued otherwise. They owe it to him to accept him back onto their roster, which they've already stated they will do. What's your point? You're entitled to your opinion on it, obviously, but they've made their choice.

I can understand the Packers wanting to move onto the youth (see Brady and the effects) but I can understand Farve not wanting to retire yet which is why I completely understand how this got ugly. I hope it sorts itself out and I wish Goodell had stayed out of it. But for me I never like to see great players retire because when they do thats it its over, I want to see the great players play.

1.) The Packers were giving their commentary on Favre day after day as well. Don't be so naive as to think that wasn't for a purpose.

2.) Favre is not "wrong" to ask for his release, by any stretch of the imagination. If he's not going to be the team's starter, why would you expect him not to ask for the ability to choose his own team to play for? Favre wasn't wrong to ask for his release, and the team was not wrong for not granting it. Try to grasp something here: the Packers will ruin this season and play Rogers even with Favre on the bench, rather than have Favre back as the starter. That should tell you plenty about agenda right there: both sides have one, and both sides want their agenda to win out.

3.) The hypothetical is by no means pointless. You merely wish to avoid it because you know that it kills your griping against Favre.
