Training camp: Session #2 notes
8:23 PM Thu, Jul 24, 2008
By Shalise Manza Young

Some observations from the evening session:

* Players were again in full pads.

* Tom Brady seemed to throw the ball a bit more than he did in the morning. Earlier in the day, Brady addressed his lack of throws: "For me, I don't think it is important to throw twice a day. I want to make sure the reps I take are good reps. Two practices today is good for arm soreness. Some guys do it but for me over the long term it would be beneficial to pace it."

* Newly signed offensive tackle Anthony Clement spoke with offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia on a few occasions, asking questions about the specifics of the New England scheme. At one point, Clement got beat and got a dressing-down from the longtime coach.

* Scott Pioli looks svelte. Richard Seymour mentioned the personnel boss' weight loss, and when Pioli was on the field in the evening, it was clear that he's dropped several pounds.

No, I'd prefer that this is only a preview and the readers still visit the writer's blog. It's also against forum rules - and copyright laws.

Oh relax. "Copyright laws." Jesus.

It's not fair to the bloggers to have someone copy and paste; I'm not in the business but I'm sure with "number of clicks" on a blog, the more the better.

Is it THAT hard to click on a link ? As you said. Jesus.

Actually, I change my mind. It's not even worth posting the whole thing here. I like SMY, and she's hardly alone - the blog entries today, on this, the first day of training camp, are PROFOUNDLY lacking. Why, for instance, does Reiss have to keep it to FIVE items from each practice?

The PFW guys were okay, but as usual there was some kind of laptop snafu so the PM practice notes are practically nil. This whole day has been fairly disappointing, given the level of interest. The blogging has been relatively anemic, this one included.

No need to make this a big deal cause its not, I'll just check it out when I get home the notes cant be too exciting its just day one. To answer your question No its not hard to click on a link just having trouble with my work comp for some reason its not allowing access, but like I said no big deal.

My reply was to patsox23 who was making a big deal of it - you weren't.

OK, looks like it's time for the annual reminder. Even if you have no respect for writers, their work and the law, there's always self-interest to consider:

Do you want Mike Reiss to write a Patriots blog?
Do you want Shalise Young to write a Patriots blog?
If so, please recognize that stealing their work and reprinting it means many fewer viewers to those blogs, which means much less ad revenue, much less indication to their employers that readers value their work and, ultimately, much less reason for their employers to keep paying for them to do this.

If you value Reiss and Young's work, show them the courtesy of clicking the link to read it. It's hypertext, it's easy!

I'd tend to agree. I don't know if the crackdown on live blogging by non-team entities has anything to do with it (nothing from Reiss during practice), or maybe it was because of the indoor practice (less room for the players, and supposedly the media can't see most of the action). But there are some kinks to be worked out, and they were glaring today when there weren't a few thousand fans to report back.

Nothing, though, will ever beat Bert Breer's notes from last season. His camp notes were terrific, but his tales of the tape were outstanding and extremely in-depth. Hopefully we'll see a little of that from the Sporting News gig.

Agreed, I'm crossing my fingers that outdoor practices will be a different story all around.
