This “no Jerod Mayo signing” stuff got me to thinking about the dates some of the Patriots’ recent first-round picks officially inked their deals and the lengths of their rookie contracts. Here’s what I found…..2007: Defensive back Brandon Meriweather signed a five-year deal on July 27, 2007.2006: Running back Laurence Maroney signed a five-year deal [...]

Ben watson missed some time and was ineffective his first year.

Camp begins tomorrow so I'm not gonna worry until next week;)

What were the training camp dates each of those years?

He was injured in the 1st reg season game on his 2nd career catch, so he really had no chance. It was a knee injury suffered when tackled.

Watson was injured the first game of the season and went on IR. Who knows how he would have done his rookie season.

2007 - 7/27 (same day w/Merriweather)
2006 - 7/28 (day late w/Maroney)
2005 - 7/28 (3 days early w/Mankins)
2004 - 7/29 (10 days early w/Wilfork and 20 days late w/Watson)

As long as he's out on the field on Sunday, it's OK by me.

And if a problem should arise Godell can always mediate...

IMO the Pats and Mayo have agreed on a deal, we will hear about it tomorrow morning before TC starts....

He probably wouldve fallen down everytime he caught the ball like he does now. So frustrating...

I have a good feeling about Mayo and appreciate the way the Pats do business but from a league prespective rookie salaries are a very big deal and something needs to be done asap. See Loomis comments below.... Nevermind the Favre situation, this is an issue Commish Gang Green needs to get involved in asap. The future financial health of the league is at stake if this situation continues.

LOOMIS EXPECTS LONG HOLDOUT FROM ELLIS, PORTER
Posted by Mike Florio on July 23, 2008, 11:36 p.m. EDT

As the New Orleans Saints try to reclaim the top spot in the NFC South, they’ll be getting started without their first-round pick and second-round pick in the 2008 draft.

And they might be without both of them for a while.

Asked whether he expects defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis and cornerback Tracey Porter to have long holdouts, G.M. Mickey Loomis said, “Right now I do.”

“There’s been very little progress in the first round period and really at the top of the second round there has been very little progress. It’s frustrating. I have to be honest with you. I feel like it’s about the agents of these guys not wanting to look bad as opposed to any concern for getting the player in here, getting him acclimated and getting him going in the right way in their first year in the league. It’s frustrating to be truthful.”

Loomis blames the delay on the attempts by agents to get significant increases over what was paid to players in the same slots a year ago.

“They’re all just waiting, not wanting to be first, not wanting to be embarrassed by a deal that gets done after they do their deal and frankly, they’re looking for some huge increases,” Loomis said. “Yes, they’ll do a deal if you want to give them some outrageous increase. I just don’t know any business where you hand out 20 percent, 30 percent increases every year. You’re not going to be in business very long if you do that.”

It's true. Look around, not only Mayo but a lot of rookies in the first round have not been signed. This **** needs to stop. These young guys need to EARN their millions and stop getting it handed to them.

Excellent article, Mr. Price, but I must note THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING! It's the 24th of July! It's a long-running holdout situation with no end in sight!!!!

Chances are virtually nil that Mayo will be in camp, Colvin's gone, and Bruschi and Vrabel are collecting social security and could leave the team to play mah jong in Miami at any moment!

Also: Tom's distracted by women and a baby, Bill's distracted by a MILF, Randy is smug and dogging it after setting records last year, the O-Line is a bunch of turnstiles, the secondary's just a vacuum, and of course...

wait for it...

wait for it...

Laurence Maroney is made of glass!!!!

Blame his agent for the missed time (Who he dumped and then took the Patriot offer).
