Chargers sign Castillo to extension

Big Vince is seen sending Luis a text message "Thanks Bro"

You're not kidding - fat Vince just hit the jackpot. I'm surprised this thread isn't getting more play because this Castillo extension ($17.5mil in bonuses, $8.6mil average for 5 years) would appear to enusre that either Seymour or Wilfork will have to go - it doesn't seem plausible that the Pats could afford to give out two huge contracts to the DL/D when you consider Warren ($13mil+ in bonuses still to be paid) recently got an extension then add in the money spent on AD last year and Mayo this year. And don't assume automatically that Fat Vince will be the one we keep because Seymour's contract bonus is prorated thru 2009 meaning it's a 6mil cap hit to ax him next year.

Vince is well underpaid at the moment but the cap dollars for just Seymour, Warren and Green already total nearly $14 million, if they drop a bonus on Fat Vince that number could rise to $20million+ just for four DLs. I don't know - doesn't that seem like too much? But if the Pats don't extend Wilfork this year you'd have to figure he'd go to FA after next year. That could mean losing Wilfork and Seymour...stay tuned.

When you consider the market value for any one of the Pats D-linemen and the importance the coaching staff puts on the positions in the trenches, I would have to say that isn't a lot to spend. Besides, with the uncertainty of the CBA, it's hard to gauge what is going to be too much. It is conceivable that one of the four is gone after the '09 season, but I'm sure Pioli and BB have already foreseen this in their crystal ball.;)

I have no idea what the cap hit will be and nobody knows what things will look like in an uncapped world.

Let's just say that it seems to me as if NE could afford to pay big Vince say 8MM per year - which will then mean the two W's are locked up with only Seymour to contend with down the road.

Would love to see him locked up this summer.

Ah yes, Luis Steroids Castillo... another cheater who should not be allowed to play.

For all of the complaints about "spygate" getting recycled and talked about too much, this Castillo steroids crap gets old. I've stated that people need to get past spygate, and this is another one. Yes, Castillo did take a form of steroids prior to the Combine, and prior to the NFL. He apologized, sent a letter to all teams warning about his positive test at the combine, and said it wouldn't happen again. He then told the Chargers that he would forfeit his entire signing bonus if he tested positive again. He has not tested positive since joining the NFL, despite being tested more regularly. I was hesitant about drafting him, but was impressed by his character in admitting to the problem, and then never getting in trouble again. He even went over to visit the troops in Iraq. HE is a genuinely good guy.

What a cheap shot. If a guy does soemthing bad, especially prior to the NFL, is he never forgiven? Or is he only forgiven if on your team and not a challenging opponent?

Hate to agree...but I gotta agree. Seems people have forgotten our own Rodney Harrison got busted for HGH last year :bricks:
