Shockey traded to Saints

Addition by subtraction. What a douche that guy is.

For a 2nd and a 5th, sounds like a trend.

The Giants were offered this at draft time and turned it down?

Some egg on their face there.

Their window for repeating is very small, and this year's draft was weak, AND the Saints could very well be much improved next year. The Giants had a high 2nd coming to them, and now they end up with a ??

Little bit of egg on their face for not trading him at draft time.

The Saints should have a very interesting offense this season. They should be fun to watch.

Shockey may be an overated WR but he is the perfect compliment to a Saints offense who may have just needed a TE to complete a very powerful offense.

The Saints may put up alot of points on the board this season - Even before Shockey was added.

Put the Saints in the upper tier of teams out of the NFC

Second round picks may be valuable next year. More juniors than normal

may declare to avoid a possible reduction in rookie salaries under a new

CBA.

Too bad we don't play those guys this year,at least in the regular season.

It might have been a score about as high as the Celtics facing the Hornets :)

Heres to hoping that Brees turns around and tells Shockey to shut up if he starts complaining on the field that he is open all the time.

Shockey could be a #1 Fantasy TE now though.....75 catches 10 TDs...

I really don't get this. Sounds like the Giants are drunk on Super Bowl punch.

What universe do they live in that they think they can have a better team without Shockey than WITH Shockey?

I don't buy the whole disruption to the team, the guys under contact and he will have to play.

Someone just needed to sit him down and smack some sense into him. Seems like no one over there has any balls. From Tiki to Shockey, that place needs some veteran "personnel management".

And please don't go with the Kevin Boss argument, I'm sure he's good but no one knows what kind of player he will be all season, you know that you got with Shockey.

BTW - I'm not a Shockey fan, I just don't get why you trade your best players away - Jason Taylor falls into this same argument.

shockey will soon be the most popular NFL player in the UK!

They're likely to point to the body of evidence provided to them by their playoff run to the SB last season. I guess how well you judge this trade may be an indicator of how much of a believer you are in the idea that the winning value of a football team can be greater than the sum of its individual players. If I were a Giants fan, I'd feel good about his potential drama outbursts this season take place on a different team... now the Giants can end up more like the Patriots and just focus on winning games each week.

That gives the saints some pretty good recieving options. Shockey, Colston, Patten, and Meachum. Billy Miller and Eric Johnson are pretty good back up TE too.

Bress should be pretty happy.

I am sure other teams said that about Milloy, Bledsoe, Law, etc.

The Giants won the Superbowl without Shockey and without Tiki. They have a very good personnel department and a strong draft track record.

Shockey's nickname in New York is 'China Doll' because he is injured all the time. His is a good player but if he doesn't want to practice with the team then good riddance.

Problem being the Jints coulda and certainly shoulda traded the stump BEFORE the draft. They'd have a decent 2nd round pick ready to compete for the 53 this season, not next year. G'bye playoffs!

P.S. Eli, meet Jason

Man Just the sound of that name makes me cringe. I will always associate that name with the SB. The 45 yarder rumble was bad enough but the S-head sitting behind me screaming at me in a gargled New Jersey accent at the top of his lungs " Who's the BOSS !!! Who's the f -ing BOSS!!" He was also leading the 18-1 chants as we trudged out. Oh well I can't wait to start the new season to mask these bad memories.

This is a win for the Giants. Not sure who confirmed the draft day offer, is there a credible source that says this was the same offer on draft day? Because of course, a 2nd and a 5th in '08 is more valuable than in '09. In the end, they got rid of a problem, and they will have two bodies to so for it next year.

Not sure if you are referring to the 2008 draft class or the 2008 Giants draft picks. In either case, I have to disagree with you. I believe the 2008 draft class will prove to be very solid and the Giants looked to have added several talented players at need positions.

I agree with your primary point that getting the 40th pick in 2008 is likely to be much better than getting the Saints 2nd round pick in 2009. The Saints have a very good chance to win their division which would put their pick at 50+...and if a significant number of juniors don't declare, the 2009 draft class will not be very deep.

If you read the context of my statement, I meant to write: this year's draft class was strong. All the logic pointed toward me writing strong, and somehow, I wrote weak.

Hah!

Seems to be proof that the Saints expect to compete this year.
Unfortunately, If Duece McCallister isn't back to 100%, a lot of their playbook goes out the window.
Reggie Bush is a change of pace back...nothing more.
