Article on Mayo

Good read, it'll be great to see what a "scholar of the game" can do under the tutelage of BB, Bruschi, maybe Seau etc, and maybe even more interesting to see how Hobson does in the same scenario. We all have pretty high expectations for Mayo because of where he was drafted, can Hobson live up to his potential and be a productive youthful influence too? Hope so, and I can honestly say I'm looking forward to this year more than any I can remember since maybe 04!

nice article, i must admit, i knew nothing about the kid until we drafted him, i was one of the people drinking the DRC Kool-aid :D, however articles like these are making his stock rise in my opinion, and after watching a few tapes of him play, i have high hopes for him

Okay, fine. Just so long as we can call him "J-Rod" or some similarly obnoxious nickname.

J-Rod. I like it.
Although his last name lends itself to some possibilities, too.

I say let's wait until TC to see if he is the next Bruschi or the next Claridge.

what did the article really tell us?

the pats have an aging lb corp
mayo is studious
he was a good volunteer lb
the pats were criticized for taking him 5 spots too high

tell me something unique and no one else has told me

I agree. I always doubt articles that claim to have "reports from inside the Pats operation". it seems to me that breaking into Fort Knox would be easier than getting inside information out of BB's locked down prison system.

Can't we make up one list of nicknames we'll call him if he's good (or for the first season when we keep believing he's good regardless of output) and one list we'll call him if he's bad, or if he says something in the press that gives us the collective willies (and I ain't talkin about McGinests)?

I am sure the guys calling the game are gonna think they're brilliant on any given play, when they say....

- "Hey, Manning's telling Saturday "HOLD THE MAYO!" "
- "Hey, I bet Dungy's saying "I didn't want Mayo on that!"
- "Looks like the Colts'll be playing CATCHUP now ha ha ha"
- "Well if they MUSTERED up a way to stop him they wouldn't be in this mess ha ha ha"
- "I think you're going about this with far too much RELISH ha ha ha"

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. If he turns out to be any good, the mediots are going to just be chuckling uncontrollably all the way to the next SB...

Suggested nickname if appropriate - "HELLMAN"

Yeah. That could be nice, with a logical leap from there to Hellboy. Imagine Hellboy as our middle linebacker!
