This year wasn't meant for us to be champions. The Manny incident with the clubhouse attendant/trainer is proof that that players' heads are not in winning the world series. Plus he is being accused of deliberately striking out against Rivera. Papi is having an off year. Bucholtz is still on the team along with Lugo and Crisp. All of this adds up to no world series for us.

As of today at .576 we have the 4th best record in baseball.
I guess 2 World Series hasn't cured the old Red Sox phobias from you.

The worst part of being World Champions is expectations, just ask Yaz. after 67. Did you miss any of Manny's other incidents during championship years. The biggest reason why the Sox might not repeat would be the loss of Curt. The Sox do not have that one-two punch as they have had and like the Cubs and Brewers now have. "Wasn't meant to be champions", guess you could say the same thing about 2004.

well i just meant that there are too many side distractions going on right now. without manny's head in the game, we have no chance. we'll lose to a team with more heart like the angels or cubs. heck, i expect even the yanks to make a run at it as a wild card.

Actually Lugo isn't on the team, and in about a week Crisp will be the 4th OF again. Buchholz is the 5th starter. The 5th starter last year was Julian Tavarez.

The person who accused Manny of tanking the AB versus Rivera has since backed away from that accusation, realizing that it was stupid and baseless.

when was lugo cut? that's good news but unless we get someone who is surefire to replace him that spot is a weakness. so we have Beckett, Lester, Wakefield and Matsusaka. That's a great rotation but I'm still worried about our hitting. Papi struggling this year is not good since Pedrioa, Manny, Lowell, Varitek, Crisp, Lugo/replacement have not been hitting well.

Don't write the Sox off yet All of the other teams have weaknesses too. The bats will pick up. Pitching will decide it. I wouldn't trade the Sox starters with any other teams. But our bullpen needs to pitch on the road like it does at home. If they do, I like our chances a lot.

Beckett and Lester is lookin like a very good one-two punch. They also have great depth.

I agree with you..........but, when it comes to win or die there is nothing like having a guy who's career is 11-2. The Sox signed him for the post season.
I like Lester, and I like Dice K as #3, just saying.
Want to see how the new rook works out in relief, that may be interesting.

Hey, you can't call it quits yet we still have 2 months of baseball and if the Red Sox do make the playoffs we just need to see what happens

I know they can be frustrating at times to watch, but don't throw in the towel just yet. This team is great at home and average on the road, that is for sure. Hang in there, there are still two plus months to go..............

The Sox have stayed right at/near the top of the league consistently all year without Ortiz. When he comes back we're golden. People underestimate the enormous impact he has on the lineup. Manny gets better because of him, Drew is pushed back in the order, and Varitez is batting 9th instead of 7th. He just hit three homers in three games in Pawtucket. He'll be back soon and the Sox will be formidable.

Are you unaware Lugo is injured and will potentially miss the rest of the season? Clement was under contract all of last year but didn't have an impact on the rotation. Lugo is not on the roster, and won't be for a potentially long time.

Lowrie currently has a .724OPS. Among AL shortstops with enough playing time to qualify, only Jhonny Peralta, Michael Young and Derek Jeter have a higher OPS. I'd say that Lowrie won't be a problem if he continues to hit like that.

And Pedroia is not hitting well? He's currently 8th in baseball in runs scored and 3rd in total hits. In what world is a .318BA and .824OPS not hitting well? Manny is currently 18th in the majors in OPS, ahead of such guys as Grady Sizemore, Justin Morneau and Josh Hamilton. He is one homer shy of his total from last year. And Lowell is doing exactly what people should expect from Lowell. His BA, OBP and SLG are currently above his career norms.

They're 3rd in the majors in runs, and in the top 5 in nearly every conceivable offensive statistic. If you're worried about the offense you're nuts.

told you

half the lineup is dead weight now. Pedrioa, Ellsbury, Ortiz, Tek, Crisp, Lowrie, Cash can't hit. I can't believe this is the same team that won last year.

I love the fact that list consists of two bench players, a hitter with a .372/.426/.512 line in the month of July, and a hitter that has done just fine in two games since returning from a wrist injury.

So basically Varitek, Ellsbury and Lowrie are "dead weight". And thats considering that Lowrie's .732OPS is above average for an AL SS.

And seriously, why the Pedroia hate? He has been one of the best hitters in baseball for nearly 2 months.

i love pedrioa. however, these guys are basically dead weight RIGHT NOW- i mean they can't show up to play the biggest series of the season thus far. it's not that bad when one or two or even three guys are in a slump, but everyone on the team is in a slump except for Drew and Youkilis. we had FOUR hits tonight - not one for extra bases. This powerful red sox lineup has FOUR hits against a 35 year old pitcher. That's how pitiful we are. we are supposed to be improving at this time of the year - august and september are critical to build momentum into the postseason. The yaks are doing what world series winning teams are supposed to do - build comaradirie and momentum around this time of the year. i think the angels will beat them though.

i really hope to eat my words in all honesty. i really hope you guys come back in October and say, "TommyBrady12 see what a bozo you were back in July." I just don't get the feeling that we wil win this year. When your best player pushes a 60 year old man for not getting him tickets, that same player takes himself out of the lineup in the first game in the biggest season series and your close whines about not closing in the all star game, it means we have become what the yankees were- arrogant and thinking the whole world is at our fingerips. there are more teams hungrier this year.

i can tell this season is going downhill because of manny's antics.

bla bla bla . i cant believe you posted the above crap:rolleyes:. you don't follow baseball much do you? the team is 60 and 45 and your whining like a little *****. are you spoiled or what?

Its July. Every team has its slumps. They lost 2-1 against a guy who pitched a great game so your calling the season. I guess you can focus on the Patriots, until they lose a game.

Did you watch the Red Sox last season? Because they were a .500 baseball team for about 3 months in the middle of 2007. There is no reason to think this team, just like they did last year, won't manage to rebound in August and September and play well in the postseason. Find me a baseball team that has never had slumps, and has never lost important games to division rivals.

And Pedroia failed to get a hit for the first time in 9 games. He still reached base (as he did in the first game), but just because he didn't get a hit he's dead weight?

Pedroia can't hit? Have you been smoking crack for the past month? He's been one of the hottest hitters in the league. And i'd much rather have Cash at the plate than Varitek.
