hahaha

Ouch. But really, I think the guy is right.

I think Curran hit the nail on the head..he HAS basically jerked the team and teh coty around for awhile..I think he believes he's better than others...so he SHOULD be given his release..apparently the rules do not apply to him....Lord Favre has a lot to learn..

That was a good read best line was the squirrel on the highway.
That was just awesome.

Did we read the same article? Reiss sad that Favre is better than 25 QB's in the league. If the pack doesn't want to pay him what is due to him under their contract with hiom, they should cut him.
=================
The packers have refused to give Favre the tools he needs, and has refused to allow him to be part of the leadership of the organization. Most of the top brass would have fired him last year if they could have, or the year before, or the year before that. Then, the team would have been known as the "pathetic pack" instead of being in the NFC Championship Game.

Everyone is right that Favre has no right to dictate to the owners of the team. He should sit on the bench and collect his $12M. Is the team really willing to do that? No, of course not! As Belichick has done many times, it's time to let the old grizzled veteran go. If he wants to play somewhere else, let him. The pack has no use for him. And BTW, without Favre, the pack is unlikely to be in the playoffs this year, even in the sad tundra division.

From the article

It’s not that he can’t play. If you pulled Favre off a tractor on a random Sunday this October and directed him to an NFL huddle he’d immediately be better than at least 25 other quarterbacks around the NFL (which speaks to the relative weakness of the position too, by the way).

And he's under contract, so why should they release him without compensation? That would be a courtesy they extend. Apparently, after having the owner, GM and a decent quarterback who's waited patiently, jerked around for years, they don't feel like extending courtesies.

And that is their right. He can back up the position if he wants, he's under contract.

Interesting argument.

Edited to add that Green Bay was a pick away from the SB. I don't remember who made that awful throw, though.

Agreed. Favre has trade value. Why should the Packers let him go? If Favre doesn't like the team he gets traded to, he can pull a Jake Plummer and retire.

If the Packers are willing to pay Favre $12 million to be a back up, who are we to tell them otherwise anyway.

Favre acts like he owns the Packers and he should be making the personnel decisions. It just doesn't work that way.

"It’s like he’s in sixth grade having his agent Bus Cook pass the Packers a note every spring: “Check ‘Yes’ if you still think Brett’s awesome!’ ”

The scary part of this line is it is actually true. Brett has been whining since February that the Packers didn't beg him to come back. They kept telling him they wanted him but didn't beg so he felt unappreciated.

The obvious solution to this problem is to trade him to a mutually agreed upon team (Tampa Bay anyone.) He'll not be out of the conference but he'll be out of the division and that is a fair compromise. Gruden would trade is grandmother for Favre. Both sides have a right to protect their interests and this is really the best solution for all.

Let's be real. No one is trading picks in order to pay Favre $12M to play this year. I don't think the packers are willing to pay him $12 either. But yes, Favre can wait and make a retirement decision at any time.

The pack has every right to cut Favre in the week before Game One, if they cannot get compensation. We did it to Milloy. They can do it to Favre. I think the managemnt forgets who really owns the packers, the people of Green Bay. If the fans think that Favre is being treated unfairly in any way, or even if he is not being given royal treatment, I suspect that current management has 1-2 years in their jobs, at most, unless they prodcue a Super Bowl. Favre means so much more to Green Bay than Brady means to Boston.

That article sums it up pretty much on my thoughts toward Favre.

This article balances out Currans:

Check out the little poll box........Thompson really is screwed no matter what he does at this point.

That was my point all along, Brett may very well be an ass and Thompson may be 100% right by not giving in to him. Dead right that is - this showdown cannot possibly be in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers Football Club. If you think you have a promising young starter then deal away the old vet legend or release him, just rid yourself of him and move on.

It was, but I liked "the snuffling, snot bubbling, tear-strewn press conference" even better.

Curran is such an awesome writer - I wish he was still covering the Pats. Reiss is great, but Curran has such a way with words!

Maybe he and Vinatieri should form a support group?

I think you're right. The Packers are in a situation where, no matter what they do, they're going to be crtiticized. It's time to bite the turd and swallow hard - say goodbye to Favre and prepare the organization for the craziness that will inevitably follow......

If the GB club is criticized after Favre has "retired/unretired/threatened to retire" for something like 3 years now, then there are no Packers fans. There are only Brett fans, applying the "my team right or wrong" to one individual player.

Brett's this "country boy that just loves having fun out there" etc. But suddenly he knows best about other players' contracts (see Walker, Javon,) who to hire (see Moss, Randy - not that he wasn't right...), etc.

He got out of control and egocentric long before this latest "unretirement" stunt. He's the king of the spring and summer football media. Not a bad thing to be in the baseball media, but football is played in the fall.

So he had one more decent season. Good way to go out. Now the sooner he goes the better for all concerned.

Tampa loves to stack up QBs... and Brett in Tampa Bay is not Brett in Green Bay. You really think he won't get yanked when he's got 15 int.s by mid-season?

And you really think they're paying $12M on the Favre of 06 -- who's just as likely to show up as the Favre of 07, maybe more likely when you consider his famous emotional nature, his end-of-career trade, his ever-advancing age, and the fact that he's been more like 06 than 07 for a while now?

Good read. If I'm Green Bay I am playing Aaron Rogers, putting Brett on the bench where he belongs, and considering that $12M dead money.

Would have been nice if Brett had been bringing Rogers along as best he could... but then "it's not his job," as Favre so famously opined back when Rogers was a rookie.

Favre means so much more to Green Bay than Brady means to Boston.

I can see a team that has a great defense and many of the pieces on offense and is a QB away from being a contender taking on the salary especially since there are about 11-12 teams with over $12 million of cap space. Tampa is the most rumored team to trade for Favre and they have over $25 million of cap space.

As for the Packers job security, do you really think if they take Favre back with open arms, miss the Super Bowl, Rodgers leaves next year(he will be a free agent after this season) because he feels he wasn't treated well and becomes a star elsewhere, and the Packers have no QB of the future ready to take over next year that the Packers' management is any safer. I think taking Favre back may help them in the very short term, but could hurt them in the long term (as soon as next year). The Packers' management do work for the fans, but trying to build a contender for the next five years is working for them as much as trying to go for it all this year and worry about the future later.

I think the Packers management are in a no win situation. I don't know which is the best solution for them or their team needs. Favre coming back is good for the short term, but not neccessarily for the long term. Getting rid of him will at least show them if they have the QB of the future on their roster, but could tank this season.

I just think Favre's handling of the situation has been horrible especially if he did allow the Vikings to tamper with him.

Thinking of Packers Fans as New England Fans... we all love Tom. What if he starts having flip-flopping seasons over the next couple years and scraps Tommy for say... Matt G? We're still NEP fans, right? In the next 4-5 years our roster will be vastly different anyway. Doesn't mean we wouldn't hate the Bill at first for it.

How did everyone feel when Bledsoe was cleared to play, but Bill didn't give him the starting job back? How did Browns fans feel when Kosar got dumped and Testaverde got handed his job?

There are a ton of these stories, we just haven't had any legendary QB's put on a retirement show lately.

Rodgers will never take a team to the SB until he gets out there and starts slinging balls in real battles and I think the Packers just have to hand him the baton. Favre will likely just stay retired in that case and in a year or two GB will be kicking ***** and taking names or they'll be rebuilding (which I doubt).

And then we send them Cassel as a competent back-up... ;)
