Glazer: Packers file tampering charges against Vikings

Hasn't Green Bay also requested a list from Favre of teams that he would accept trades to? Either way, another uninteresting turn in an uninteresting saga.

As I said a week or so ago, this thing is only going to get messier and messier.

Zoinks. Almost hope it's provable to force Goodell's hand in the punishment phase...this is obviously more significant (if true/provable) than the Chicago/Niners issue, lets see if the punishment is commensurate. But at the end of the day I agree with the heads on PTI - regardless of my personal feelings for him, in 3-5 years this is forgotten (or 3-5 years after he really retires) and he's still a first ballot guy even if he forces (in a grotesque display of selfish mismanagement) their hand in any number of ways to another team and he sucks. He could become a backup in Atlanta and they would still talk about him as a football god in a few years (probably with a John Madden homemade drumstick shiv pressed into their backs but still ;) ). So I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the heck out of the messy as this all turns to mookie.

Shouldn't this be front page news? It's cheating. Where are the morally outraged Peter King, Cris Carter, Tom Jackson, ect?

iam just happy that another team(s) is focus of all this crap for a change and are getting ESPNized and not us.

Is this going to be what the Jets did when Branch was trying to get a deal?? THAT went nowhere...and every year MANY FAs sign on opening day with hardly a few hours gone. Tampering in the NFL is a joke..it happens..and unless Goodell REALLY wishes to stop it all it will continue..

8-8*

Ahem...

Doesn't there have to be some evidence? Simply speaking to a player is not proof of tampering, there would need to be somebody going on the record as saying there was discussion of Favre going to the Vikings. I doubt the Minnesota coach will admit to that (perhaps his recollection gets fuzzy), and I doubt Favre would say anything either, as it would help the Packers HC and GM - who are obviously not on the top of his Christmas card list right now.

On the other hand, Goodell has spoken earlier this year about cracking down on teams that are guilty of tampering, and also about needing only a 'preponderance of evidence' as a threshold for imposing punishment.

If nothing else, the NFL has succeeded in keeping themselves in the news and becoming a sport to follow twelve months a year.

Commissioner Zod already sent a paper thin precedent for evidence. I think all that he had between the Bears-SF was a few phone records. That was enough to dock a draft pick.

They had nothing but denials in the case of he 49ers and Bears and that was in a scenario where the teams were actually talking trade. They didn't have permission to talk contract with the player. Commissioner Badass played connect the dots on that one trying to make a point - kinda like what he did with us. This one could be real costly as a result. He can ask the OC in question to produce cell phone and other documentation, and if he won't they can presume why. Owners and others can be called in with the understanding that if they lie their ass in in a vice too. In the SF case they never even bothered questioning the agent (Rosenhaus) because they probably didn't want to put him in position to lie. Lie now and god only knows what the penalty will be...

This will ultimately be Mangini's legacy to the game...the NFL as CSI.

"Commissioner Zod"

I love it!

Nah, Steelers.

no kidding really?

someone a while back posted Vikings and i've believed that for a year. It did seem like he did a lot of Vikings stories but then again, i was probably looking for them.

How many young QBs is Favre going to completely mess up, anyway?
