I think it's a valid question that was hinted at in other threads. So why not start one ... we have a few Jets members over here. Seriously ... i think Mangini is way over his head as a head coach. I do not think he gets 100% respect of the players. He's too indecisive and leaves too much to competition ... as in the QB decision. He was just about tanked his last season here ... benched by Belichick for sucking.

If friendship is the barometer then he stays put for a few years. But if performance is the barometer does a good Buffalo Bills season get Mangini axed ... let's here it members .... ;) MANGINI :banned:.

I disagree that the the QB position should not be an open competition. Pennington has been garbage for 2 yrs and you have a young unproven QB who might deserve a shot to start. 7 wins or more and I think he is fine. A lot depends if the Q's give him anything and everyone knows that. I still like him as my head coach. He is making mistakes and learning but I think he is a good gameplanner when he has defensive coordinator duties and I like the attitude he has as opposed to Herm and his players best friends mind set.

I think Mangini's got one more year and he's out. Where he lands after that? I'm sorry, but I just don't care.

Also, I think a lot of you are raising expectations too high for him to be retained. The Bills are a borderline playoff team IMO and you have to put them ahead of the Jets right now. However if we win the 7 or 8 games that I think we will then he is safe. Now if you want to make things interesting, let Brett Favre go to the Jets and then I will concede anything less then a 9/10 win year may get him canned

I honestly don't really know what to think of Mangini. I thought the Jets were about as good as the Bills in 2006 (which wasn't really that good) yet they made the playoffs. So I don't know if it was good coachign or luck.

I think the Jets made some good changes this offseason but I still think they lack gamebreakers on offense. The Bills have a big question mark at QB but the Jets have a giantic one. Personally, I think Pennington is their best QB. But in all honesty, I have absolutely no grasp on how the Jets will finish this season. They could be 10-6 or 4-12.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. In 06 a lot had to do with the schedule but that year I felt Mangini had great schemes which masked a lot of our flaws. The sechedule was vanilla but against tough opponents we beat the Pats in foxboro, lost by a possession to the pats at home, almost beat the colts at home if not for a last sec Peyton Manning drive, and we trailed the Bears 3-0 for 3 and a 1/2 quarters of football.

Dont worry about having no grasp of the Jets this year b/c neither does half the fan base. On paper they have potential to have a nice defense and if they have solid QB play, they could have a solid ball control running offense. The offense like you mentioned would look awful nice with a Darren McFadden gamebreaker (im still bitter), like you mentioned the QB position is a big ?. The defense could be very good if Kris Jenkins can transition to 3-4 NT, they gave him the bonuses to control his weight and he has the skills to do it but ya never know. What we get from Calvin Pace is another unknown. If Gholston have some immediate impact I think we can be a top 15 D w/ upside.

The Jets have a lot of attention focused on them by playing in the NYC area. Expectations are higher for these clubs thanks to the constant media attention. I also note that NY teams are always expected to do better and with the Giants winning the Super Bowl, these expectations are going to run very high.

So if the Jets fail to beat the Bills and even split with the Dolphins, doomsday will be the headlines and calls for a new coach will start. I really don't see anybody other than the Patriots making the playoffs from this division, so the pressure will be on.

He'll probably land in a McDonald's drive thru.

I didnt see an option for " no, he wont be fired because the jets f.o. isnt smart enough to get rid of him". :D

The thing with the Jets is that they played much worse last year than I really think they were. Which means if some of the moves work out and they don't underachieve again this year than that alone should pull them to .500. If things really work out for them than they could be competing for a playoff spot though they probably are a QB away from really competing in the playoffs.

But if Mangini cant write the ship and goes from Playoffs to 4-12 to the same or worse than I don't see why he deserves to keep his job. If they show improvement but the QB is what is keeping them down than he should get another chance.

MY opinion is the Jets will be a little better this year than last but not that great and it will be a real tough choice.

I think the Jets could suprise again.

I don't think Mangini's coaching job will be determined by how the Jets compare to the Bills.

The Jets have a winnable schedule, if their improved O-line can click and if they finally get someone at the QB position that can throw the ball with power on a 20 yard out. Their Defense should be better, and their running game could be much improved with Faneca at LG. He is a long time running game monster. The schedule allows for a winning season in Jets Land. They need to start 2-2 going into the bi-week. Figure wins over Miami and Arizona. Then they could get to 5-2 when having to play Buffalo in week 9. If they win that and get to 6 wins, then they have to win against the Rams (my sleeper team of the year) but its at home, Then a brutal 2 game road trip with the Pats and Titans. Maybe at this point they are at 7 wins with 5 to go. That means they need 3 wins out of the last 5, including Denver, at San Fran, Buffalo, at Seatle and Miami. They could get 3 wins there and actually finish with 10 wins and slip into the playoffs.
