In Massachusetts this would have gotten him no more than a 6 month continuance without a finding. LA seems to be a bit harsher.

When you are a PROfessional and you get in trouble for substance abuse by using POT, that's really inexcusable. You are putting your livelihood at stake there for what, a temporary high?

People in professions that don't mandate drug testing can get away with recreational drug use. Understand the difference??

Maybe it's because we play the same dot football game or something, but I'm just going to say that I think your argument has no basis in the reality of this country and/or planet, and will never make any sense outside the confines of the internet soapbox you've created out of outrage-shaped matchsticks.

it seems strange that marshall faulk is so hard on the pats when his cuz, kevin, plays for them. hopefully kevin will clean up his act, he has been a great asset to this team over the years, and i hope he continues to be. the reason nfl players smoke pot is because they like it. they make millions of dollars but so what, they are still people. If they really like something and think they can get away with it there is a good chance a lot of them are going to do it. no matter what line of work you look at there will be people who do drugs and break laws. and in the case of rap and rock stars, it is not only accepted, it is often celebrated. actors have been busted with pot, happens all over. i dont even think weed should be illegal, but that is another issue i suppose.

And make no mistake, Parrish made more than a few HUGE plays in their glory years. Not sure, but I think he has had a previous arrest for pot. Maybe that's why it is a bit harsher of a penalty.

My question is why his friends let him carry the weed. If my buddy was an NFL RB with a lot to lose I'd hold it for him. He probably hooks these guys up when he's home.

It's not about what you care about.

And make fun all you want but what someone who plays for your team does recreationally with their recreational time that impacts their ability to play (because of possible suspension...) is what fans give a **** about. It would be no different if he were abusing a legal substance say by driving while intoxicated. If this lands him in the pee in a cup program, and it likely will now that he has pled no contest (not to mention he may have already been in the program and we wouldn't know it), any further infractions risk possible suspension either under the substance abuse program or the commissioner's conduct policy. THAT is what is stupid about a player making millions playing a game they can only hope to participate in for a decade or so. He'll have plenty of recreational time to do what ever the F he cares to once his all too brief professional football career is over - which at his age will be in another 2-3 seasons during which this team is paying him to be a multi million dollar third down back because his presence on the field matters that much...

Isn't it always...? That was his contention but it obviously had to do with trying to remain out of the program. He had a test administered the next day in hopes of avoiding the program or impressing the powers that be, but perhaps he found that absent the charges being dropped that wasn't going to help him. So he pled no contest likely to avoid any further attention to the matter like court dates involving testimony or witnesses.

Players want to avoid triggering the program because once it is they face year round random testing and the specter of possible suspension becomes a reality. Second offenses extend the program for two years during which third offenses trigger automatic suspension. And after the first suspension looms the year long one. So once you've been caught the concept of truly discreet recreational use becomes nearly impossible and clearly career threatening.

In reality these professionals are just normal people like everyone else, and I'm sure you know plenty of normal people who would love to go to a lil wayne rap concert with a hand full of doobies.

But you're right in he should have been smarter to hand it off to one of his posse to take the fall. That's Rule #1 of having a posse.

Well I'm not going to respond to--or read--all of what MoLewis posted above. I'm just going to say that it continues to be a shame that pot isn't legalized in this country, and I don't even smoke. Granted, as a league rule Faulk is in the wrong here no matter how you shake it and as a fan I wish he had a bit more restraint.

All that said, likening pot smoking to driving drunk seems a bit ridiculous to me...I'm not even going to go into why, but if you believe that to be true then you've watched too many of the scare-tactic commercials from the 90's.

I wish I didn't have to care about this, but I do. Like many, I've seen the damage that booze does to individuals and families and I don't think pot is any better or worse. But, it's against the law and I have young kids. Kevin should have been more careful.

This will probably cost him some meaningful endorsement and appearance money and the Pats will have to be consistent about their "off the field" standards.

Darn, can't this just go away? When does Training Camp start...in just 15 days if I'm not mistaken.
