I usually defend the guy more than most, his current slump notwithstanding.. but since when does a .219 average get you into the AS game? The guy has been as close to an automatic out as there is in the AL the last 6 weeks.. Wow.. catching must be awful this year.. and he was voted in by his peers..

It's really a joke. AJ Pyrzinski should be there.

The players voted him in. I was surprised but if his peers want him there.....

AJ isn't the most well like guy.

Good point, he also isn't always credited with as much defensive help to the pitching staff as Tek, which might be a highly weighted issue among guys who appreciate some of the little things as well as the numbers (plus I've also heard AJ wasn't on a lot of guys buddy lists)

Tek being voted in is a prime example of why the players shouldn't decide on who makes it. It should be the most deserving, and not the most liked. It's stupid when fans vote in the most popular player too. I also think the business of every team having a rep is dumb. Allstars should be the best players in the league, and no one else. A guy hitting .219, or the lowest among starting catchers, should not be on the allstar team. I'm a Yankees fan, and Jeter shouldn't be there either.

I like to describe myself as a baseball fan who roots for the Yankees. I'm not a yahoo. I root for every Boston team but the Redsox. I don't hate the Sox like most Yanks fans. They are my home town team. Obviously I root against them when it helps the Yankees, but I rooted for them in the WS in 2004. I was happy for Boston. It's wierd, and some of my friends can't understand how I can be this way. I'm objective is all. Objective within reason I guess. :banned:

I think he should "come down with an injury" and give up his spot. Even if voted in by our peers, going to the all-star game the way he's been playing should be embarrassing. Knowing what a great teammate and competitor he is I'd suspect that he kinda feels the same way.

RW, you are dead to me. I just wanted you to know that.
:D

No really I don't carry the animosity towards the Yanks that many do, it gets pretty ridiculous at times. I have a lot of respect for Jeter and Mo Rivera, though they do have some guys on there that are very hate-able (ARod, Giambi, Pettite, Farnsworth, anyone with the last name Steinbrenner). It is also fun to have a crazy, bombastic Steinbrenner back in charge, the last couple years with age taking its toll on George have been somewhat lacking.

In a way it does make sense that the teams themselves should vote since its their home field advantage on the line. Maybe having him behind the plate is worth the automatic out. Perhaps they think hell get his act together by then. Maybe it is just politics, but I do think they deserve the right to decide. Not that I would have voted for him.

Also, I dont care what it is, but you better have a damn good reason for rooting for the Yanks when the Red Sox are your "home town team".

Is Rich Gedman still available?

How dare he be voted in.

This may taint baseball's current prestige and perfect state of being.

I got hooked on the Yankees when I was a little kid. I'm 100% Italian, and my entire family is off the boat so to speak, and with North End roots. Lots of Italians were huge Joe DiMaggio fans, and that trickled down to the following generations (me). One of my cousins always talked Yankees & Italians when I was 9 or 10, and it stuck.

Stokes, Hank is a moron, Hal has some brains.

Still does not make any sense. I watched the Red Sox growing up and remember a couple of dang good players named Conigliaro and Petrocelli.

Which is what makes Hank so entertaining.
