July 1st, 2008 and the Devil Rays lead......

I already explained why the manager is an assclown; he gets upset when one of his players gets taken out due to an action another of his players initiated; he pulled a bush league move which Maddon blew a gasket over when said player pulled the same crap on one of his players when said player was with the Twins.

According to the everyone other than Foley, who goes by the "If I do something bush league to you and you retaliate, it ain't over and I get to retaliate back" school of thought.

Those wonderful non band wagon Tampa fans you speak of packed the Trop last night to the tune of 16,000 paid attendees; nope, they're not band wagon fans at all ...............

What major league manager doesn't get upset when one of his players is taken out whether or not its in retailation? That same manager will be manager of the year. I never said the Ray fans were loyal. As a matter of fact, I mentioned that they do not draw unless a snowbird's team is in town.

Scout, honest to Christ, do you not understand what happened here?

One more time; his 2nd baseman pulled a no no bush league manover and dropped a knee on Crisp. Maddon went off on the same player when he played with the Twins and did the exact same thing to one of Maddon's players. Crisp retaliated against the shortstop; granted, he had nothing to do with what happened.

During a pitching change, Maddon started barking at Crisp, who in turn barked back "I did what I did because your 2nd baseman dropped a knee on me"

It should have ended there; but no, Maddon tells his pitcher the next night to drill Crisp.

So, Crisp gets a knee dropped on him, retaliates and gets drilled, so that's TWICE Crisp got nailed.

Does that make sense to you? I hope this is clear to you now................

And again, when your retaliation poses a far bigger threat than what was done to you, you should expect something else to come your way. Taking out a player at the knees is much worse than blocking the plate. You'll find people who say that Bartlett's play was clean and others who will say it's dirty. You won't find anyone who will defend barreling into someones knees on a steal attempt.

If Crisp wanted to retaliate thats fine. The problem comes with how he did it.

Crisp did not go for Iwamura's knees.

Dude, I've been watching baseball for years, sheet happens over and over. Retailation doesn't always stop after the payback. I hear what your saying, I just do not agree.

Scout, I'm with you 100%; in the BS world of baseball, ie, the tit for tat crap, usually you do something, they retaliate and it's over. On this occasion it did not end there.

Foley, dropping a knee to block home plate is far different than dropping knee on steal attempt. When you come around third and head for home, you expect the knee to get dropped; when you take off for second base on a steal attempt, you don't.

It's like apples and hand grenades..........

i support what crisp did 100 percent. you don't drop your entire lower leg in front of the base on a steal attempt unless your looking to get cletted. the SS for the rays is lucky coco slides head first or his leg would have been shredded. coco hurt his wrist on that play and i don't blame him for sending a message taking whats his name at second base.

Go look at the play again. He upended Iwamura at the legs, which could have posed a serious threat to his knees.

I completely agree and haven't said otherwise. But that doesn't change the fact that blocking the plate on a steal attempt is still done by players and isn't viewed by everyone as a completely dirty play. Retaliating a borderline dirty play with a blatantly dirty play should expect further retaliation. All retaliations are not equal.
