in the offense this year? Once teams started to double cover him late in the season, and took him out of the play (and McDaniels seemed to make minimal attempt to make adjustments or changes in schemes to free Randy) his productivity and effectiveness dropped way off..........

Since McDaniels isn't going anywhere....and teams will no doubt continue to do the same thing to "tie up" Randy......is anyone worried that we may not see that explosiveness much from him.......and if they don't find some way to get him involved.....will his positive attitude go south again........Appreciate your opinions.....

I think Belichick is smart enough to step in if McDaniels doesnt make any attempt to make ajdustments.

Moss got open a lot against the NYG, but unfortunately Tom didn't have time to get him the ball most of the time. I'm most definitely not worried about Moss.

I say whatever about any one persons effectiveness. If they double Randy then he is effective in that he opens up welker, or jackson/gaffney/watson to get the ball. As long as the team is effective then I'm a happy camper.

What he said. Look at it this way -- on the last play of the last game of a 19-game season Moss still had enough in the tank to have beaten his man.

Besides, Moss didn't come out of nowhere. He has been double- and triple-teamed since his rookie season.

Randy Moss 2007 season:

First 8 games: 51 rec, 714 Yds (14.0 YPR), 12 TDs

Last 8 games: 47 rec, 779 Yds (16.57 YPR), 11 TDs

That said, he probably wasn't as consistently effective in the second half of the season, and certainly wasn't a big stat producer in the playoffs. However, there are other factors responsible for that (weather, the way teams defense the Pats).

However, I wouldn't be the least worried about Randy. He opens up the offense, and he did that well all year long. His effect on the game goes beyond his numbers, and if teams want to take him away then other guys are going to have big games.

As longs as the pass protection is there the passing game with flourish, as will Randy. I'm pretty certain of that.

That's soooo true - In fact in the SB they (Giants) just dropped man coverage on him all together late in the game and went for the rush. It worked for them in the Super Bowl, but most teams will get lit up like a Christmas Tree if they do that to Randy and Tommy thru the season.

Don't worry about Randy. He'll be great.

I believe that late in the season as teams started game planning to stop Randy, we did not have a great answer to those scheme's.

I think our coaches and QB are the best in the business, but when you have a weapon unlike any you have EVER had before, it hard to know how to use him.

Bet everything you got that after a year with Randy (and Randy's input), Bill/Josh/Ernie/and Tommy will have PLENTY of answers for the competition this year.

Bank on it........and embrace the hate in '08.

Not worried at all. He's going to be less effective in the freezing cold, that's just how it is - any QB/WR combo will be as you hit the ice, snow, wind, etc, of winter. We need to be able to run the ball to have a diverse offense in the latter part of the season and playoffs. First half of the regular season, SB and the west coast 2nd half regular season games he should be as explosive as ever.

The fact of the matter is this is the year that Chad Jackson needs to come to play or become a bust. The statement about teams double teaming Randy since he is a rookie are untrue. In Oakland, most teams handled him with single coverage as did teams against us throughout the first half of the regular season. Randy had a couple of huge games and the double coverage was right back on. He'll see it even more next year which is why Jackson has to develop into the downfield threat we drafted him to be in order to make defenses pay dearly when Moss is double teamed. If Stallworth did that more often last year, you would have seen more blowouts.

I think the Pats S&C team needs to keep Moss stretched out all season because Welker, Gaffney and Jackson is not going to scare many defenses.

Exactly. Moss will be fine and will probably come out on fire. I look for him to slow down the colder and more wet it becomes. thats why this team need a good balance of Maroney and a healthy Morris going into December.

This team doesn't have to be statisticly better than last year, they have to become more balanced. They have to know how to beat conditions and be able to adapt based on what the defense will show them.

I don't care about stats, but in terms of effectiveness, Moss will be plenty of. It will take C Jax to be a complete bust not to take advantage of the double teams. I don't care if Moss had 20 yards in the first 3 games. If the offense is scoring and the team is winning, everyone is doing their job.

This team doesn't have to be statisticly better than last year, they have to become more balanced.

I am going to take balance two ways........first, as far as more effective running game to take the focus off of Brady a bit.

Second as far as team balance with the defense becoming more dominant than they were last year. I think there is room for improvement on "D" and I think it will happen. A healthy Seymour alone would be HUGE all by itself.

Yes, you are correct. We are all just drunk off the stats from last year and want a repeat performance (with a different ending ).
