"Real" Steeler Fans "hate the Patriots"

Oh, and I am a real Steelers fan and I don't "hate the Pats"

I hate the Raiders, hate the Bengals, loathe the Ravens, hate the Cowboys. I also hate every single NY Sports team. I don't hate the Pats. Currently I don't hate the Browns cause that's like hating the slow kid in school. Can't bring myself to do it.

I do however hate all the one way streets in Boston. What a whip if you're from out of town.

I like Kelly's. and loved Fenway when I visited.

I still love Terry Bradshaw.

Dino - nice to hear from the Greatest Fan In The History of Planet Earth! I'm disappointed though; no pictures of your Terry Bradshaw Idol and Temple of Terry? Ha ha, lol . . . Nice to know that there is a Steeler fan that doesn't hate the Pats.

Just to make myself clear, I don't hate the Steelers either. (Though I did lose a lot of respect for Hines Ward, one of the very best all around receivers in the game, when he accused the Pats of cheating because the Pats defense seemed to know the Steelers play calls. That's called preperation and studying game film; the video taping was of defensive (not offensive) signals.)

The Steelers organization is very similar to that of the Patriots. A strong and stable ownership that hires quality management, supports them and allows them to make good football decisions, with an eye on long term goals that keeps the team competitive year after year. Perhaps it is a vocal minority, but it seems to me that most Steeler fans are irrational, close-minded and blinded by their loyalty - and that was the point of my original post.

However, I felt that many of your fellow Steeler fans appear to be overly obsessed with their hatred for the Pats and Pats fans. As Double G pointed out, this is probably due to being blocked from two Super Bowl appearances by the Pats. I know it may be difficult to accept, but the Patriots deserved to win those games. Bill Cowher teams rarely excelled on special teams, and that was the difference in the first AFCCG. Roethlisberger's interceptions were the difference in the other game. Blaming it on stolen defensive signals is not an objective viewpoint and is an attempt to rationalize a shortcoming rather than accept the facts.

(And before I'm accused of being a hypocrite, yes I accept the fact that the Patriots broke the rules. I accept the possibility that it resulted in an unfair advantage, but that is an opinion that is open for debate, and not a fact. The team was punished for the rules violation; end of story.)

I do stand by what I said earlier about your fellow Steeler fans. The comments over there were rather defensive - though nobody had said anything negative, with the exception of one Steeler fan who received a threat from two moderators - and the thread turned in to a Patriots bashing - though no Pats fans had said anything. It appeared that the Steeler fans wanted a fight, didn't get one, so they went out and found this site, and repeated comments written here. With one or two exceptions, the comments here were very tame, full of dry wit and sarcasm. For example, ALP stated "no big deal . . . now if it were a Patriot..." - a very valid observation; yet the Steeler fan 'rolls his eyes' as if the comment has no merit. Bunzoburns joked that Bradshaw "looked pretty jacked up in Cannonball Run" and the Steeler fan takes the comment seriously. Those are examples of what I meant by 'being taken out of context'.

Others have commented previously that this type of hatred is actually a compliment; it is a sign of jealousy and envy. In this case, perhaps Steeler fans are fearful that the Patriots will pick up a fourth and fifth ring over the next few years. Maybe that explains why the Steeler fans focused on the Patriots and didn't bother to see or comment what others were saying, like their division rival Browns and Bengals fans.

Facts are still twisted around, something Pats fans have come to expect. For example, a Steeler fan quotes from this site first. Then, when I responded here, it is the Patriots being obsessed with the Steelers and not the other way around. All in all, I did not find the folks here pointing fingers at Bradshaw; the overall tone of that thread was one of 'no big deal.'

Regarding other fans - I completely agree with you about Raiders, Eagles and Jets fans. Browns fans seem rather fanatical and Falcons fans seem to be badwagoners, but it sounds like you know a lot more about them than I do.

Looking forward to November 30th. Hopefully we can have some intelligent football conversations during the week leading up to that game.

You want to know why I love that picture of Ward crying?

Because it was part of the motivation for Bettis to come back for one more year and get his ring. I love that picture.

See I think alot of the "hate the Pats" stuff does come from those 2 playoff losses. Historically, we are winning the head to head, have 2 more rings, have a long tradition of being a contender and are a solid fan base. Why be jealous? That's what I try to teach some of my fellow Steelers fans. If you are going to hate a team for losing to them, then we should hate the Broncos, hate the Chargers, hate the Bills, Hate the dolphins and so on and so forth going down the list of teams we've lost to in the playoffs. Its silly, but part of it has to be that its "new", that being the 2 losses to the Pats in the Playoffs. The Broncos loss was worse, and the loss to the Chargers, Effing Neil, hurt way more. I also try to point out that Brady only beat us once in the Playoffs, he was hurt in the first game when our STs got off the short bus and we lost to Drew Bledsoe, not Tom Brady. Which could be considered worse! LOL.

Now I usually reserve my true hatred for the Team we are currently playing. So Right now, I really hate the Houston Texans. Week1.

I'll talk football about any team, any time, college or pro or even local highshool football. I love the game. and I love Terry Bradshaw!

as for being the greatest fan in the history of planet earth, now that you have seconded that notion, I will take it to mean it is offically true. I am the greatest fan in the history of planet earth. Sweet, now I can convince my wife that the tattoo of the steelers symbol on my arm will look way cool!

You're a funny guy Dino, I like your passion for you team, we all have it for our team, so good for you.

Please stick around this year, especially for the clash between our teams, we need all the passionate/rational/funny fans we can get..............

Dino glad to see a true football fan! It is odd, it seems everywhere I go it is actually true Steeler's fans are the only other ones that seem to understand football. There is a gentleman on Corvetteforum.com that everytime someone posts something stupid about the Pats (or any team for that matter) he levels them out, and usually in a very humerous fashion! :D
So do stick around good sir. :eat3:

Been to Heinze field twice. Had alot of respect for the fans there. That is until I got about 25 Bruschi "How's your head" stroke comments. Unclassy to say the least. Say what you want about my team but personal attacks on a guy who had a stroke is uncalled for. Oh and the parking at your stadium SUCKS!!! :)

I guess a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch. Now Jet, Charger, and Clot fans take the prize........

Dino's about the only decent Steelers fan there is. The rest are morons like the people in that thread. I guess the only way to answer is for the Pats to beat them down again (and again, and again).

Thanks, except, I am kind of a moron too. You can try to beat us again, we'll see how it plays out. I'm looking foward to this season, we've actually made some changes that improved our team instead of staying the same. We'll miss Faneca, but I'd rather a young bull talent at guard over a disgruntled where is my money veteran. Have fun playing against the Jets offensive line this season.

Week 1, the Texans.

"You can try to beat us again, we'll see how it plays out."

The Patriots record against the Steelers over the past five meetings is 4-1, two of those wins coming in the AFC Championship game at your house.

I'm sure the Patriots will "try" their best to beat you again...........lol..............you really are a funny guy Dino.

What goes around, comes around. Current series record is Steelers 12 Pats 7. At one point that means it was 11-3. Glad to see the Pats have "closed the gap" :D

Whether you hate their organization and fans or not, you have to admit that Parker and Mendenhall are going to be a NASTY 1-2 combination of running backs this year.

Thats a pretty easy comment to make when Parker is already one of the best in the game.

Thanks, I really hope that is the case, and I'm also hoping that Limas Sweed can step up into the 3rd receiver spot with Ward and Holmes at 1 and 2. That would be so dangerous. Its got to click, we'll see, but I'm actually feeling great about getting new weapons in the off season instead of staying the same. We've upgraded and that is required at this Level every year.

I think it's pretty hard to dislike the Steelers if you like football. They play an agressive 34, have good 'backers, run the ball well (while we're touching on offense, christ what a good first two picks this year!), Polamalu is unreal. Always liked Cowher, Hines Ward is my favorite player in the NFL, Tomlin is one cool dude.

I hope the Steelers do well this year, second place in the AFC would be nice:D

You're going to need all the weapons you can get with that murderer's row of a schedule. Good lord.

Oh dude, no doubt, but that takes into account that the Redskins and Titans were playoff teams last season. We got the NFC East and AFC South this year plus our yearly #1s of other AFC Divisions, hence why we play you guys, the Colts and the Bolts so often. When you keep winning your division, you keep playing those that win their own divisions. I don't mind.

I love getting to play the Cowboys again, and to play the defending Champs, heck yeah, bring it on. Of coarse we get you again, that's fine, its great football when we get together, and the Jags, yawn, they still bore me, even if they had our number last year. Get some fans Jags and we'll talk. We open at home with the Texans and as far as I'm concerned, its a Must win from day one. Death to Houston!!! LOL!

Have fun on the west coast trips this season for New England. As soon as I saw that I thought, dang, that's a rough road. 4 west coast games. You guys luck out that they are back to back west coast trips so you can stay out west instead of flying back east between each one. But still that's a brutal road trip.

No joke. Luckily, we have one bye week during each of them. (Oak and SF) :D

Actually, those games are going to be tougher than you think. Oakland will be run heavy and the niners have tons of talent on their team they just need to "click" and get on a roll which shouldn't be too hard in the NFC West.

But you can count them as Bi-weeks if you want.

UGH!

Seriously...I'm so tired of defending the NFL and Goodell for his decision to fine and take a draft pick away from the Pats for the incident with the Jets last season. And I'm defending Goodell from other Steelers fans that think Goodell took it too easy on the Pats...gosh darn it. Just let it go people...let it go...its a new year, new blood, new everything.

Anyway...good luck Pats fans. See you this season for sure, I'm out til Late July. See you in camp.

GO STEELERS!!!
