Most overated/underated players of this decade (going into 2008 season)

Which ONE player of all the NFL has been overated this decade thus far and which ONE player has been the most underated - Patriots players are allowed but please select basing on player,not his team.

The player could still be playing or recently retired...

IMO OVERATED PLAYER : Carson Palmer - Has magnificent skills and has had a great receiving corps the last several years but has not delivered enough to get them to the promised land but yet analysts still say he is one of the top QBs most likely to take over the #1 QB position when Brady and Manning hang up the cleats.

UNDERATED PLAYER: Troy Brown - I have to go with Troy Brown not because he is/was a Patriot but because I truly believe that even in his highest point in his career he still never got enough credit and was barely mentioned among the NFLs elite receivers in 2001-2003 years.

Most Over rated:
before I opened the post I immediately thought of Carson Palmer. He has got to be the most over rated QB of the last 10 years. He had a combination of 3 receivers that were really good and still couldn't do enough to get into the playoffs on a consistant basis. I just shake my head when I hear all the love thrown his way and think what the heck has he ever done to deserve it. My second has to be Romo. Come one, if he was on the Saints we'd never even talk about the guy. He chokes away every big game he's ever played in.

Most Under Rated
Steven Jackson, RB for the Rams. That guy, man he is a beast. I mean he just runs angry, and can move too. He's a monster, I wish sometimes late at night that the Rams would be stupid enough to trade away another big running back to the Steelers for a 5th round pick in 2012 and a 7th round pick in 2013. Kind of like they did with Bettis. Steven Jackson doesn't get enough attention because he plays on that just...sad team...the Rams.

Overrated - Gotta go with Mike Vick (pre-prison). So he was fast and throws the ball far. After that, he has no discernable QB skills. He's got no leadership skills, no charisma, no touch on the ball, not to mention no conscience. But the NFL loved him because he was so marketable. If I were a Falcon's fan i'd be glad that albatross is gone.

Underrated - Brian Westbrook. I hate the Eagles, but i'd love to see Westbrook on the Pats.

The most overrated player of this decade is Brett Favre. He was a great player in the late 90s. What he mostly did since 2000 was play so poorly in big games he gave his team no chance to win. In this decade, his playoff TD to Int ratio is 12/14. But he has media members to his house for dinner and his popularity in GB was so great that all his coaches and GMs were scared of him. As a result, he was portrayed as the same guy he was in the late 90s.

I'll second Westbrook as underrated.

I cant say Palmer's overated sure the team hasnt done much of anything but you gotta put almost all of the blame on the Defense.

Most overrated I'd have to go with, hmmm, maybe Donovan McNabb, who I love, but who is quite obviously NOT the franchise QB he is always hyped to be. He's a solid guy but needs another facet of a team to win, he's not a winner in and of himself, without a D or a sick running back, he doesn't necessarily make the WR's look better. It just seems like often Philly is winning in spite of him, not because of him.

Underrated, same team, I think Westbrook is the heartbeat of that team on the field. Without him they usually struggle, with him they seem energized when I see them. I honestly wonder with as good as he is out of the backfield rush and pass, with a better QB and/or offensive system is Westbrook doing what Faulk did in St. Louis?

John Lynch -- Been living off reputation alone for years now...

Jerome Bettis -- Big time rushing yardage, but had a midland career 3.9 YPC and had a habit of disappearing in big games (i.e. the Loaf of Bread he carried in Indy in 2005 which would have cost the Steelers that game had Nick Harper cut outside).

Tony Romo -- Very early, obviously, but win something before the accolades flood in, please...

Underrated:
Curtis Martin -- Similar (Better, actually) stats than Bettis, without the flair and pizazz.

Derrick Brooks -- Incredibly durable throughout his career, and a ball magnet. His play has tailed off a bit in the past few years, but you never heard all THAT much about him with Lynch/Sapp.

Overrated: Reggie Bush based on how he has panned out for the Saints so far.

Underrated: David Garrard, really has what it takes to be a solid to great nfl qb, and doesn't get much publicity still.

Great name, for a HOF caliber LB this guy did not get half the attention he should of got through his career.

Overrated: I'll go with Terrel Owens. Just based on the number of balls he has dropped. He is probably the 5th or 6th best receiver in football but most people have him 1st or 2nd.

Also, what about Big Ben. Yea he won the Superbowl at a younger age than Tommy, but Big Ben won those games by watching his defense play. Also, people talk about how he manages games and all, but really what they are really saying is "he hands off the ball well" and when people say he never really throws picks that may be true, but consider he never throws TDs either.


Underrated: I'll go with Angelo Crowell. For a third round pick, he is very good. Also, when is someone going to realize how good Fred Taylor has been over the last 10 years?

Can't agree about TO. The guy is a ******** off the field, but on it he is one of the most productive and consistent receivers the game has ever seen, and will most likely get into the HOF.

I'm loathe to agree about Palmer too, the guy is a very good QB, and I really can't agree with the criticism aimed at him for the Bengals not making the playoffs. Their defense is one of the worst in the league, meaning that the O has to put 30 points at least to win a game. And that's not always possible. He holds several franchise records, and has some notable career statistics too. He and Houshmandzadeh were carrying that Franchise on their backs last year.

Underrated? I can't think of one specific name, but most NFL Offensive linemen who don't play at Left Tackle. I would make my point by referring to the damage that the Giants' D line did to our Offence... If I was going to pick an underrated skill player (who hasn't already been mentioned), it would be a slot receiver, someone who "just" keeps the chains moving. Perhaps Ricky Proehl?

Overrated: got to agree with Vick.

wow what is all the hate for Carson Palmer..?? He has had a very good carrer, espically after that hit in the playoff game when he was cheap shoted.. I would not put Carson Palmer in the overated category..

My Overated- Tony Romo- Win a playoff game
MIchael Strahan- More mouth than game
Mike Vick- Was never even close to a QB
I do agree with someone who says John Lynch..
Terell Owens- Gets more hype than deserved..he is good, but gets too too much hype.


Underated- Reggie Wayne- I think got overshadowed alot by Marvin Harrison

Fred Taylor- Great RB , lost in Jax

Matt Hassleback- Very good QB, as you could see is more imp than Alexander.

Kidding.

I agree about a lot of the QB's mentioned, but they're easy targets. RB's are often at the mercy of the O-Line.

I think Marvin Harrison is over-rated. Hate me if you must.

I think Laurence Maroney is under-rated. Something tells me this boy has it in him to join the ranks of the elites.
