Recently former Steeler Terry Bradshaw spoke about using steroids while he was a player, which not surprisingly was compared and contrasted to the Patriots video taping opponents signals. The comments here were somewhat predictable: a question as to why this didn't get as much scrutiny in the media as spygate; a few jokes parroting what Pats haters typically comment; and then a collective shrug, as if to say 'this is not news, no big deal'.

I was curious, however, as to how Steeler fans were reacting. Strolling over to their fan site, Steelers Fever, was a rather eye opening experience. The first three pages of comments are ironically mostly the same lines that upset Pats haters when they come from Pats fans: 'everybody did it', 'it wasn't against the rules then', 'it didn't help them win', etc. What was a bit surprising was that the thread almost immediately turns in to a Patriots bashing - even though nobody was writing anything bad about the Bradshaw and the Steelers. It was as if it was a self-inflicted pre-emptive strike, perhaps to bait non-Steeler fans in with negative comments.

After the thread turned in to a debate as to whether or not steroids should be illegal or against NFL rules, and no other teams fans gave the Steeler fans a hard time, on the 75th post of the thread somebody decided to copy and post comments from Pats Fans, take them out of context, and offer the opinion that Pats fans "are the least knowledgeable fans in football" and "delusional".

Disappointed but undaunted by the lack of any fan from any other team to come in and say something negative about Bradshaw or the Steelers on their forum, an common enemy was finally uncovered when a Steeler fan responded to a comment about lack of intelligence in New England. First one moderator commented "Are you sure you are a Steelers fan? Quite honestly, you come across as a Cheatsies* fan". After defending her Steeler loyalty, a second moderator responded with "What exactly IS your problem? Friendly piece of advice here: pull the stick out, if you get my drift." This is the cue for other Steeler fans to pile on; first, "Any self-respecting, REAL Steelers fan hates the Patriots* with every fiber of their being. The end.", and then another accuses this person of not being a Steeler fan, but instead being a troll.

On a side note, I did find it just a bit weird that somebody named Dino comments six different times that he loves Terry Bradshaw.

Just found it a little bit strange that these folks were not only so defensive, but also so eager for an argument - yet at the same time intolerant of any even slightly opposing viewpoint.

Well, Pennsylvania is not exactly known as the braintrust of the nation. That, and their probably just tired of the Squealers having their heads handed to them on a silver platter everytime the two teams play. How about, despite not having "the use of cameras", the Pats still whooped your asses. Can't wait to see you next year. :rocker:

These folks were not only so defensive, but also so eager for an argument - yet at the same time intolerant of any even slightly opposing viewpoint=99% of the Steelers fans I know.

Can't blame them for hating the Patriots; if it wasn't for us, they'd have two more Super
Bowl appearances (2002 and 2005).

The 2005 AFC Championship game is my #1 all time favorite Patriots moment; going to Pittsburg and pounding Ben and the Steelers, the team that ended the Patriots regular season winning streak. Deon's "bye bye" wave as he waltzed into the end zone on the reverse was priceless...........

It is called being in their domes!! I did not see one non Squeeler fan post in that thread yet somehow it comes back to the Patriots. Not to mention the need to come over here and see what we thought of the subject.

In the poker room of life......Squeeler fans are on tilt......

Please don't ever link there again. Those were some of the dumbest "rational" posts I have ever read.

I feel kind of sick for cheering for the Pens in the NHL Finals, now.

You know, you're right. After visiting sites such as espn, nytimes, or a steelers' fans site, I sense a lowering of my IQ that can only be compared to that of what happens to the brain cells of a professional athlete that risked his career in order to venture with neither a license nor helmet through a windshield while learning how to drive a motorcycle.

who cares what **** the steelers fans talk? just say "anthony smith"

What do you expect from a fanbase that drinks Iron City Beer on a regular basis. All they do is fill it with 1/2 polluted river water and 1/2 urine and slap a picture of Jack Lambert on it. What a bunch of ***hats.

I know it is not easy to route for a team as successful as the Red WIngs if they are not your home team but I could not in good conscience route for the Penguins after Ulf Samuelson

Sorry, guys, I don't know crap about hockey. The last time I watched it before these past Finals was when the Wings/Avs rivalry was going strong.

I was only cheering for the Pens because I have a friend who is a huge Pens fan. He's also a Steeler fan, but one of the good ones.

There aren't any good ones......not even one - Steeler nation sux. Their outright disdain for New England borders on the obsessive.

Their comments in that thread are evidence if stupidity.

I could care less if Bradshaw and that entire team used steroids back in the 70's, hell, a huge bunch of players were all hopped up on speed anyway. Big deal - it's football.

Blocking and tackling and in the 70's they did it as well as we do it the 2000's. They were a dynasty then we are a dynasty now - filmed signals for scouting purposes or not.

Stupid yellow towels, don't they even realize yellow = coward.

For the Record. I LOVE TERRY BRADSHAW!!!

Oh, and I am a real Steelers fan and I don't "hate the Pats"

I hate the Raiders, hate the Bengals, loathe the Ravens, hate the Cowboys. I also hate every single NY Sports team. I don't hate the Pats. Currently I don't hate the Browns cause that's like hating the slow kid in school. Can't bring myself to do it.

I do however hate all the one way streets in Boston. What a whip if you're from out of town.

I like Kelly's. and loved Fenway when I visited.

I still love Terry Bradshaw.

There's not a fanbase I dislike more than the Steelers one.

Really? Had a lot of interaction with the Raiders and Eagles fans have you? How about them wonderful Jets fans. Or those Falcons fans, yeah, winners the lot of them. And Cowboy fans are so humble aren't they, or even those Giants fans that switch between their Giants jersies and Yankees hats all week during the Fall.

Ever met a Browns fan? Or a Colts fan?

You can dislike the Steelers fanbase all you want, I just question your reasoning behind it.

I don't see what's wrong the Raiders, Falcons, or Browns fanbases. The other ones you mentioned are terrible too, none however are as whiny and bitter as Steelers fans.

LMAO! Whiny and Bitter! That's classic!

Raiders are obnoxious, Browns are dilusional and the Falcons are depressing.

There were no Giants fans until February 5th. Then they were popping up so fast I lost count.

Priceless; so you're saying New York fans are front running frauds.................lol, ain't that the truth, can't stand Giants fans.

Don't really mind Steeler fans; have to respect the fact that their team have been winners for about 35 years, that is pretty impressive..........
