After seeing recent predictions by Wilbon and Dr Z, I found it refreshing to find a contrary viewpoint. What's interesting is that this outcome was performed by computer simulation based on statistical analysis, repeated a hundred times over - which should eliminate certain biases and agendas.

Fox Sports has apparently partnered with a web site that runs computer simulations to predict outcomes of games and seasons. At first I was ready to discount this as two kids playing Madden in their mom's basement, but it does look somewhat legit. If you held a gun to my head and told me I had to bet all my money based on WhatIf or Dr Z, the choice would be fairly simple.

Here's their playoff preview, Pats fans should like what the result.

AFC Divisional Games
#4 Cleveland 24 @ #1 New England 31 - Romeo Crennel just does not have the man-power to overcome his former team. The Patriots roll in a game that looks closer than it actually is.

Conference Championship Games
#3 Indianapolis 24 @ #1 New England 27 - Again? In the regular season, this game was a coin flip with New England on top just 52% of the time. In New England in January, the game is still close, but the Patriots have a little more of the edge.

Super Bowl
New England 33, Dallas 31 - Super Bowl XLIII is quite the exciting nail-biter. The Patriots prevail for the fourth time this decade. Tom Brady earns MVP honors with 209 yards passing, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Tony Romo matches Brady in TDs, but throws an early interception that leads to the Patriots' second score and swings all of the momentum in New England's favor.

Just wanted to throw a counter point out there to all the national media doom and gloom nay-sayers ....

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

its good to see somethign knows what its talking about (even if it is just a program)

but honeslty, if the same tests were run for last years sb, the pats would be shown as winners

its an any given sunday kinda thing

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

Cool, I'd take another Pats SB.:rocker:

I'd really love to see the Colts have to play in the Wildcard game :D

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

If its based on last year, etc. than I don't see how you can't pick NE to be the favorite going into the preseason. They were one Asante Samual dropped pick away from 19-0. How many times does he drop that ball, or Manning make that pass, Tyree make that catch?

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

Well..the point isn't being picjed to win the SB...it's just WIlbon was dissing the whole area by his pick. The guy is manure...for someone supposed to be smart..he's bitter and ro my mind..a total hypocrite when it comes to his comments on injuring BRADY..

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

"Tom Brady earns MVP honors with 209 yards passing."

Wow, that's specific. Too specific.

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

I would love it if the Cowboys lost by two points. The only way it could really be better is if the 'boys were ahead by one going into the last minute a la the Rams...I could hear my best friend's heart (he's a texas boy!) explode from here...

LOL

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

just as long as nobody predicts a perfect season.
Super Bowl win. Its all that matters.

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

honestly who cares who they pick?

so if i don't like what one person says and then search out for someone I do agree with does that make me feel better?

people picked the lakers over the celts. people pick the colts over san diego last yr.

the current pats haven't accomplished anything and as we all know it doesn't matter how you are playing in week 1. it's how well and if you are peaking at week 17.

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

Hows being picked to win the Superbowl refreshing? I HATE IT!!

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

lol sounds like some pretty in depth predictions, especially in the off-season. I can live with some people saying that cleveland wins our division, but I highly doubt if they do indeed play Jax in the playoffs that they have much of a chance. Its kinda funny though, because for all this speculation who knows who will even reach the playoffs this year until the season plays out:cool:

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

i don't really care what the sports writers and casters picks are. they do not mean anything. the pats will have a good chance to win it this year, but everyone already knows that.

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

Although I admit it was nice (and thanks btw:)) in the end, so what? Like you said it was two kids playing Madden in Mom's basement. In the end it is as relevant as Dr.Z or Wilbon.

"Tom Brady earns MVP honors with 209 yards passing.".

....and Matt Walsh is found in a bathroom stall with Arlen Specter...

Re: Refreshing: Pats picked to win the SB

We are going to get it done this year, no doubt about it. If anything we have gotter a tad bit better(if thats even possible) because we've gotten faster and younger on the defensive side of the ball despite losing asante

Super Bowl 43 - New England 33 Dallas 31 says this site via computer

http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/

I like the way it breaks down all playoffs and other stats, real cool to see they pick Tom Brady as offensive player of the year and Jerod Mayo as defensive rookie of the year.

Must be computerized by a computer made in New England

Lets see how accurate it stands in about 8 months from now...

I have to question the Ravens and Bengals at 5-11 and Texans at 6-10,I think those 3 teams are a bit better than that

Chad Jackson has two catches for TD's in the Super Bowl? Ummm, if Vegas is taking odds on that I will give it is a shot, but I am not holding my breath on it.

Sorry to bring this up, but, seeing that this is the offseason and all, and no games have been played yet, I can't figure out for the life of me what statistics form the basis for this computer simulation. If it's last year's stats, wouldn't that be more predictive of last year than this year? Or is it like Madden, with speed, strength, etc. metrics?
