The word we’re hearing out Boston is that it’s only a matter of time before the Patriots begin negotiating a new contract with NT Vince Wilfork. Wilfork’s rookie deal extends through 2009, but the coaches’ belief that he’s the most important cog in their defensive scheme is reason enough for them to be particularly proactive in locking him up. However, a deal for Wilfork won’t be nearly as easy to come by as fellow DL Ty Warren’s was a season ago. For starters, Wilfork’s wife, Bianca, who handles his business endeavors, is known as a tough and shrewd negotiator, and won’t settle for anything less than a blockbuster offer. But the most significant complicating matter is the uncertainty surrounding the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is putting a kink in numerous teams’ contract structuring. Still, it’s more a matter of “when” than “if” when it comes to Wilfork and the Patriots.

Sounds like his wife is his agent...

his wife made him eat nothing but nuts and berries for crying out loud! I hate to think what she wants for a new contract!

just get it done dont ever let him come close to hitting free agency.

Maybe the Celtics winning a championship will help the Pats re-sign Vince. :D

I would think between approaching him two years before his contract runs out and what seems like an affinity for the area, Vince won't demand all that he could if it was a contract year or had he been entering free agency. I'm glad they are being proactive with him.

Man, he looks even bigger in "regular" clothes.

He rules and stuff, so I hope they give him a very generous offer. And I hope he signs it. :)

That's good news...it's really needed...

Well, that's 5% off: no agent's fees.

Lets hope they do extend him soon, it would really suck to lose him.

Yes, it's definitely a good sign that management is showing Vince
interest there by respect.
It won't be good news until the deal is sealed, though.

According to the video, Wilfork has a 10 year old kid? Ha ha. He has a good chance to be a grandpa while he is still playing. That would be funny.

So does this mean she'll push for a divorce clause where she gets 75% of his contract in case of divorce?

I thought that was a bit odd too, because Wilfork would have been 16 in 1997.

The most important signing outside of Brady. A young NT getting better all the time = gold for a 3-4.

Oh, and I looove Vince.

+3:D

Mrs. Wilfork: "Krafty - I ain't got no time for this low ball offer"

Mr. Kraft: "Well that's good to hear, since most real agents have JDs, I am sure you understand the concept of a double negative then"

Mrs. Wilfork: "We ain't taking no 34M over 5 yrs"

Mr. Kraft: "Great - we'll schedule the presser. Thanks for making this easy"

Good old pro football weekly - passing off common sense as a scoop.

Pats want to sign Wilfork and will negotiate with him but it won't be easy. In other news, sky is blue, Peyton Manning makes commercial.

What does that "report" even say? That some day in the future, nearer future than farther future, the Pats will try to resign Wilfork to an extension. Did anyone not know that?

The Pats always extend or re-sign the players they view as important or irreplaceable, see Brady, Seymour, Warren, Koppen and Moss. They will get this deal guaranteed, Big Vince is too important in our 3-4. Being pro-active actually paid off well for them in the Warren and Koppen deals so maybe that is a good sign, on the other hand the money that was thrown around this past offseason was ridiculous.
