Although we rember Coates, because he was part of the revival, and was great in his prime.. Lets not forget Jim Nance, who was a great back in the AFl days..

I know. I had a hard time making my choice between Nance and Coates. I have a soft spot for Coates though. :p

I have a soft spot for Coates too.

Best Berman Nick Name Ben "technicolor dream" Coates.

But I voted for Nance because I think Coates is a sure fire Patriot hall of famer and not that Nance isn't but us young guys tend to overlook the older guys.

I'm surprised Nance isn't in there already. I am torn, but leaning towards Nance. It is going to be tougher for him to get in because a lot of the people who actually watched the guy play are dead. I never watched him myself, but my dad was a huge fan.

No love for Jon Morris? He got my vote.

It's a tough call but my vote goes to Big Ben. When I think of Ben "winter" Coates a line from Gil Santos always comes to mind, "Ben Coates is like Secretariat out there." It was Ben Coates 3rd season and I believe the game was on 9/11/94 vs Bills where he had 9 catches for 124 yds and 2 TDs, his 3rd consecutive game with two TDs. What I loved about Coates was how he made tacklers pay after the catch and althoug not fast he always found a way to create enough separation to make the catch. Not only a Patriot great but I believe he should be considered in the top 10 of TE's all time.

I defintiely think Coates is a top 10 TE

Although I never saw him play, I am voting for Nance just because I know that Coates will eventually get in.

Glad you agree. Had a day off from work today and I am watching NFL Network and perfect timing they just had the top 10 NFL Best TE's off all-time. Ben made the best of the rest list along with some other good ones, Novacek, Sanders, Christiensen among others. Gates was #10 and in my book he is one dimensional and should not be on the list. Also disagreed with how high Ozzie Newsome, Kellen Winslow and Shannon Sharpe were placed and how low Tony Gonazalez and Mark Bavaro were on the list. Checked NFL.com, not listed on top 10 video list yet. I would replace Gates w/Coates. For what it's worth, here is my list: Mackey, Ditka, Gonzalez, Bavaro, Casper, J.Smith, Coates, Winslow, Sharpe, Newsome. One-dimensional receiver types were downgraded.

What, no love for guys from before you were born?:)

The voting is unfair to old timers. If you were great in the old AFL days, probably only 10% of voters saw you play.

Thats why I gave the love to the old timer instead.

is there a reason to boycott?

I'm disappointed they don't nominate a player who should have been in with the first batch.

It's a long story and I'm sure some here are sick of it.

If you go to Canton, he's on the all time AFL team.

I know I'm pissing in the wind, but I voted for Jon Morris. Without Jon Morris anchoring the line, Jim Nance doesn't get his yards.

Ben Coates will without a doubt be voted in sometime in the future. Jon Morris will probably be forgotten if he doesn't get in soon.

I voted for Jon Morris, partly because maybe seeing an AFL-era lineman receive votes might jog the memories of whoever comprises the NEP HOF committee, and cause them to consider the name of someone who should have been included with the initial group of NEP HOFers: AFL HOFer Houston Antwine.
