If the Celtics blew the series after up 3-1 would it be more shocking than SB 42?

It has never happened before and as an avid Boston Celtics fan I hope it does not happen this year but if the Celtics go home and blow the 2 games and lose the series would it be a bigger upset (since they were up 3 games to 1) than the Pats losing to the Giants?

I really don't want to think about it, talk to me after Game 6 if we lose.

Nope, not even close; the 18-0 Patriots gag job vs the 13-6 Giants is the third biggest upset in the history of sports. 1980 USA vs USSR in hockey is and will forever be #1, Jets beating the Colts in Super Bowl III is #2 (the AFL was viewed as semi pro football at the time and that was a shocking, shocking upset).

Not sure where this would rank, but it wouldn't be close to the Patriots SB gag job........................

I hate these threads. NO! If the Celtics were undefeated and had gone up 3-0 and THEN the Lakers came back to win it, then yes, it would be more shocking. But no, this would not and could not outdo the Pats SB loss.

No.

And let's not forget, it's not like we won all 3 games dominating. It took the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history and almost giving up the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history (Game 2) to get where we are now.

Plus we weren't even favorites to win the series. It would be absolutely horrible, but nothing will ever touch 18-1.

Ever.

Even if this does happen, I'm used to the pain and heart breakers that occur so frequently in Boston sports....

Well,In 2007 you can consider the Ravens game the greatest comeback of last year - The Patriots should have lost that game more than once but the Ravens were too kind making stupid mistakes (like the Lakers) and literally handed them the win,Sort of like what LA gave a gift to Boston in game 4

Ya - it really sux to be a sports fan around here...all the teams suck, we never win anything.

Oh wait, it's not the 90's anymore - its a new century and we have become TITLE TOWN!!

Three Superbowls

Two World Series

Coming soon - one NBA crown and one or two more Superbowls & World series championships..

We will win again, worst to first - good for you Celtics.

As for the original question, not even close to SB loss - undefeated season trumps all - were it not for three Superbowl rings, I would not have been able to take it.

I am very appreciative of the sports teams in this town but I am saying that through the years there have been more than a few beyond painful games. Meaning I'm used to the worst (a.k.a Super Bowl 42)

I'd have to take my life.

Why even give this thought any energy?
If you want to do something constructive, pray for Ray Allen's kid to get healthy.

Well it would stink alright. But I don't think I'd by laying in the fetal position for 3 weeks again.

I don't know about shocking but it would suck. I've been waiting 20 years and to come so close and lose to the goddamn Lakers.. Hopefully they will close it out tonight and this will be an awful thought.

if the celts lose this series it would be right there with pats giants. the 86 ws. 03 alcs vs the yankees and the 78 sox yanks playoff game and the 85 and 87 finals vs the lakers. in short it would suck to the point i would run out into on coming traffic.

No worries after all ...

BANNER #17
