In the Superbowl disappointment a new all time record was created by the Patriots.
They now have the two longest regular winning streaks in the history of the league.

Do y'all remember the buzz when the Pats set that record topping the Bear's long standing 1940 era record a few years ago? They tied it in the 15th regular season game, and extended the streak to 19 games, by winning their last regular season game.

They start off the season playing the Chiefs, Jets, Dolphins, and 49ers before tangling with the Chargers in San Diego. So they should be favored to raise the regular season winning streak from 19 games to 23 games, before they play SD.

If they beat the home favorite Chargers, they play the Broncos, in Foxboro, and Rams, before going to Indy to play the annual tong war with the Colts. They could raise the record to #26, entering the Colts game.

If they get by the Colts, #27, they would be favored in every other game the rest of the regular season, by my reckoning.

So how high could the Pats take the record? How high will it go?:D

Of course the KC squad could upset them in the opener, too. On any given Sunday...

What is your prediction?

I'm going to say the Chargers. I think they come out strong this year but begin to fizzle near the end. Patriots end up 18-1 again but this time in the right place.

16-0 extending the streak into the following year:rocker:

A couple of interesting points to note here:

* The streak has not involved any OT games.
* The streak has not involved a single game-winning kick.
* It is the longest RS win streak, but not the longest undefeated streak. If the Pats win seven games, they'll break the 1921-23 record of the Canton Bulldogs of 25 RS games without a loss (Canton had three ties).

i don't consider it an accomplishment as much as a technicality. a loss in the superbowl is a loss, and i'm not going to discount it just because it's not in the regular season.

i felt the same way with the last win streak.

really, you can only add so many restrictions on an accomplishment before it loses it's appeal.

the '07 dolphins were the greatest team to ever win against the ravens in overtime and still have the first overall pick while having an entire team know differential calculus.

I always felt in 03-04 we broke the record when it was the record including playoff games.
I agree its kind of a hollow record, because any team that has a winning streak extending over 2 season should have a playoff win streak in the middle.
In any event, its just another chip in the corner of all the records this dynasty is setting.
Of course the most important is # of SB Championship, which is tied for a record at 3 in 4 years, cannot break the record of 4 in 6 by the 70s Steelers, but can break the record of 5 in hopefully 9 years, I think the 5 record is SF in 14 years. That team was not IMO the same dynasty in 1981 and 1994, but we could win 5 while being the same dynsaty with Belichick and Brady being the components that would determine that IMO.

On the other hand, they didn't count our playoff and Super Bowl wins in the previous win streak because those wins weren't in the regular season, so...

If they're not going to count playoff wins in our streak, then this "record" is justified on its merits.

I perdict the pats will go 13-3 this year, and no I dont think any of those loses will go to Miami. But I do think the Pats will win the SB.

19-0 is the HIGHEST any team can go.

True but wouldnt you love to see them go 19-0 this year and then stretch it into the 2009 season for another perfect run?

38-0 baby!!!!

Go pats..

I love it and this is something that I repeatedly say it here because I want to see it. 38-0 is freaking madness. I hope it happens.:rocker:

if we win all of the away games, we tie the 49'er for most straight away wins @ 18

One 19-0 run at a time......:D

Steelers will end the streak again ;)

I figure the chances are about one undefeated team in 30 yrs. Then factor in it needs to happen to 3 teams in the same conference. AND the teams can't have each other on the schedule. Then factor in that the 3rd team would actually win 2 away playoff games against 2 other undefeated teams (for the purposes of this exercise, I will assume that the 1&2 seeds win their first playoff game at home and road teams win about 30% as dogs on the road in the playoffs).

If you multiply this out, I will save you the math, its probably going to happen about once every 93,781 seasons.

That is literally impossible. Just look at the 2007 season, for example. Consider the 16 teams in the AFC:

BUF MIA NE JEST * BAL CIN CLE PIT * HOU IND JAX TEN * DEN KC OAK SD

Now remove the teams the Patriots beat:

buf mia NE jest * bal cin cle pit * HOU ind JAX TEN * DEN KC OAK sd

To have three undefeated teams, two of HOU, JAX, TEN, DEN, KC, and OAK would have had to go undefeated--but every one of them must play all the others, so it simply cannot happen under the current scheduling system. (Two is possible, but not three.)

i could care less about the record....as long as they are #1 seed in AFC and go to the superbowl once again!

Steelers will end the streak again ;)

The streak of Guaranteeing a win?? Oh, come one, that was so much fun!!!!!

BTW - The Brady Moss Moss Brady Jabbar was nothing more than a simple reminder of the beast that does not need to be provoked.

Please tell me Anthony Smith is still a Steeler, Please Please Please!!!!

lol yeah, he still is a steeler and obviously a bit overconfident. I personally am hoping that Tomlin does the right thing and gets Clark back to starting FS though.

Good. That'll be a fun story next year. He will be hounded by every media outlet leading up to the game. Dude will watch himself get burned 10000000 times on ESPN and the NFLN.
