I think there is an opportunity here. He's in the middle of a holdout, probably wants Michael Roos type money, which isn't bad for a top-flight left tackle. In my opinion, the Pats should make a move for him.

Peters is in my opinion a top three tackle in the league, is 26 and a far superior athlete than Matt Light. Getting Peters would enable the team to move Light to the right side, upgrading LT by a decent margin and upgrading RT by a large one.

Obviously, the snag is the cost of the trade. There, I am blanked. Maybe someone could offer a solution?

Heh...

There's a difference between Jason Peters and Travis Henry.

So, are you opposed to any moves of this type? Please, educate me...but be sure to read Ask PFW first just so you can acquire an opinion.

"Peters also missed all 13 of the team's voluntary sessions over the past month. Teammates said Peters is unhappy with his contract. He has three years left on his current deal and is scheduled to make a base salary of $3.25 million this season"----from yahoo

i really don't like players who sign a contract, and then with 3 yrs left, start *****ing about how the other linemen make more money....not very patriot like. I'd pass, if it were up to me. besides, our o-line had a good year, just not a good finish.

I'm not opposed to any moves of this type. I'm simply opposed to a new thread whenever any player is released or is rumored to be on the way out -- because most of the time when these threads are created, the Patriots either show no interest or show interest but lose out. Then posters start to get upset with the front office for not getting the player.

i kinda agree with you. how about we have a sticky for released players from other teams. then we wont have a million threads asking if we want to sign homer simpson who's just been released from the tallahassee warthogs....:D

The cost of the trade? Two years ago, Peters was a fourth-string tight end. But since he's shown show much upside, you're talking about some pretty good draft pick action. And then, of course, a new contract. You're paying twice.

I'd much rather see hundreds of threads about this than hundreds of threads about spygate or the like. At least this way, the threads are about different players instead of the same topic over and over again.

Here's a better idea: how about we just don't post any threads and lurk around an inactive forum? That way, people can stop *****ing and moaning about what types of threads are posted.

Agree 100%. Most of the time you can hardly find a football thread. Even if the Pats have no interest, you learn about personnel.

And you know, if no one replies, they drop like any other thread.

Let's compare this to a thread like "Scott Player released".

I don't even need to open that thread. That's all the information I could possibly want about an ex punter.

Finding out which players are, or might be available is valuable and interesting.

Actually I have no problem with these type of speculation threads. Some are quite comical and some are quite insightful.

In this case Buffalo holds all the cards and would want a 1st round draft choice (speculation on my part). So I would speculate a 10,000-1 shot that this happens.

PS, I was wrong about Randy Moss.

BTW, if the people at PFWonline get a giggle out of it, that's fine with me.

how about jason peter?

i hear he just wrote a book. anyone who can write a book about blocking deserves a look.

Peters deserves the money. This contract he signed was way back when he was unproven. Later round draft choice, by the time he finishes this contract he'll be 30 years old. Jonathan Ogden just retired after a few years beyond that.

If you're going to argue that rookies at the top of the draft make too much money, then you can't say that vets who are at the top of their game (and locked into low contracts because of the way lower draftees are paid) don't deserve new contracts. The Patriots even ripped up Ty Warren's contract with two years left on it.

Maybe you have a point that Peters is asking for a new contract one year too early, but Seymour did the same thing, then played a season, and came back and signed a new contract, after ripping up the old one.

At least an opinion requires thought, unlike the knee-jerk "Player X is released, tell me why we don't go after him because I cannot think of a single reason myself" threads.

One reason you might come across is that IIRC Peters was an UDFA or at the most a 7th round pick. If the Pats had any interest they could have had him for nothing and cheaply. So now you are saying they would jump at the chance to give a high draft pick AND pay him the 5 mil a year he wants?

Pats cannot go "after" because to even approach Peters is tampering, and it is a terrible negotiating ploy to ask a division rival to trade a guy to you. The price would jump up two draft rounds.

Right. Thanks for adding hyperbole to what I said to make your point. It was striking in it's accuracy. Thanks for explaining to me how tampering works as well. I had no idea how that worked. This whole NFL thing is just so convoluted and nebulous to me, thanks for being a beacon of truth in a sea of confusion.

Yes, it is all pure speculation at this point. Is speculation more fun than, "I hate Easterbrook", "Alex Trebek wants to kill Tom Brady", "Peter King is Stupid"? In my opinion, yes it is. Is it fun to talk about actual football instead of re-hash the superbowl, whine about the media, call eachother doody-heads and verbally felate Perillo? In my opinion, yes.

Towards the speculation about Peters, here is my justification of expendature:

1- I think Matt Light is just not that great of a left tackle. I think he would be a better fit at right. I think we don't have ANY NFL calibur starters at right tackle. I think we have AT BEST two mediocre back-up level players at that position assuming Goodell doesn't lower the boom too heavily.

2- I happen to think that Jason Peters is an upgrade over Matt Light on the left side. I think that would address two positions of need with one drop of the hammer.

3- Name one tackle better than Jason Peters who is under 30.

4- In my opinion, he has yet to realize his potential. He could be something special. He is still rough in his technique and still learning the nuances of the position. With proper coaching in the right scheme, he could be the best at his position for his decade. I think that a second-rounder is fair for him.

Adam Seward should be listed first, in bold and underlined.

Have you seen that guys numbers? Well not stats, but topic views. He's a beast!

And what other posts are you going to make in this dead part of the offseason besides "columnist said this" and "player has been released, should the Pats show interest?" because, other than those two, there doesn't seem to be much else to talk about. Again, maybe you would prefer it if the forum were absolutely dead right now? I've always been opposed to those two types of threads. But let's face it: there's nothing better to talk about. So pick your poison: threads like this or a dead forum?

So do you guys think that the Pats should try to coax Michael Strahan out of retirement? What about Jonathan Ogden? They did it to Seau, after all!
