Re: LeCharles Bentley a possible Patriots?

hasnt played in 2 years.

Re: LeCharles Bentley a possible Patriots?

there is no way that he goes to Pats.

Re: LeCharles Bentley a possible Patriots?

Beat me to the punch.. This guy was a beast 2 short years ago.. He was the top player in his class and is only 28. I'd agree and bring him in for short money. He just passed his physical and we might need a new RT.

Re: LeCharles Bentley a possible Patriots?

i just saw a thing on the NFLN about LeCharles.

from the show, i wasn't given the impression that he'd be cut.

Re: LeCharles Bentley a possible Patriots?

The reason he asked to be released was because the Browns looked at him as insurance, while he wanted a chance to start. Unless no other team is interested in giving him an opportunity to start, I don't see him interested in coming here.

Browns release LeCharles Bentley

Actually, no. It doesn't make any sense.

Paul Perillo makes fun of PatsFans because whenever a team releases a player (see: Odell Thurman, Takeo Spikes, etc. etc.), someone on this board thinks the Patriots should sign him.

I really don't blame him. It's laughable.

See, in a way this move would fit the Pats MO of getting former studs at low prices due to an injury, but really I don't think the OL needs a major move like this. We could use depth, but not someone who would compete for a starting job necessarily.

With someone like Randy Moss (not injured but still coming off a couple sub-par seasons), it was a no brainer because the wide receiver position needed to be revamped. Our OL was solid for 18 games last year, the most it needs is a few tweaks and insurance policies.

You're so right. Perhaps we should have a morgue for such threads. ("I know he's 36 years old, only has one leg and has been arrested for knifing his grandmother, but ...")

Yeah,I am waiting for the future post probably posted here at patsfans around next february regarding Odell Thurman being reinstated in March of 2009 - Maybe we should look at him? it will say - guaranteed

Not only is it not laughable, it's the process that the teams go through, and not just in football. A player is released and the other teams take a look at him to see if he might fit their situation and needs. They then proceed from there. Obviously not all players fit all teams but, also obviously, there are going to be differences of opinions about some players.

In the case of Bentley, for example, some will point to his being out of football for 2 seasons. Others will point to the risk of signing him off of the injury. However, there will be those who point to his play prior to injury.

It's simple evaluation. In any large enough group, you will have some divergence of opinion. Perillo can laugh all he wants.

What you say is true.

But I would like to add that I make fun of Paul Perillo and his gang.

Very well said. This actually happens in just about any football message board you could find. It's severely frowned on here though. Nobody ever bothered stating the posting guidelines here though so oh well.

p.s. Bentley passed a physical therefore I'm all for the Patriots signing him.

I think our curiosity about once valuable players is a lot more appropriate than that little Girl Scout gossipfest they pass off as a professional sports show.

Oh my goodness, he's only made Pro Bowl or alternate 3 times. How could he possibly help us?

It's not like we've gambled on injured players before.

Three? I've only seen it twice, in '03 as a right guard (injured) and '05 as a center.

Bentley is listed at 6'2" 313 right now but has played around 330 and also has a questionable work ethic. He isn't very mobile and doesn't want to be a back up.

If we are to judge what they look for in a RG by Stephen Neal they want someone who is quicker and more adept at trapping and blocking for screens than Bentley. They already have a center in Koppen and it's probably stretching it to say that Bentley can start at right tackle. Not to mention the zone blocking system requires blockers to get to the second level and to do so quickly.

All that spells almost no chance of him coming to the Patriots.

My money would be on him getting gobbled up by the Steelers.

*Cough* Dan Morgan *Cough*

*Cough* Dan Morgan *Cough*

1.) Dan Morgan doesn't prove your point by any stretch of the imagination. When healthy, he was a quality player

2.) If you're referring to his retiring, you might want to talk to Belichick about offensive linemen: *Cough* Joe Panos *Cough*, *Cough* Rich Tylski *Cough*, *Cough* Brendan Stai *Cough*

Dana Stubblefield, Bit Cat Williams, Jeff Burris, Eric Warfield, David Terrell, Donald Hayes...

It just doesn't work.

But really, those names aren't as bad as the ones we've been seeing lately. It was bring it Pacman, then it was bring in Henry, then it was bring in Thurman. Fans on this board are getting reckless. They forget that not every player is a Dillon or Moss.

Even when Givens was released by the Titans in February or March people wanted the Pats to bring him in right away. His career is most likely over.

Pacman, Henry and Thurman are all talented players. Just because you don't want them on the team, you think it's laughable for others who do want them? Each of these three players would have raised the physical talent level of the team considerably. Again, it's evaluation and opinions will differ. Individual players mentioned might be 'laughable', as you put it, but the concept surely isn't.
