Where visions of training camp, roster cuts, and depth charts dance in everyone's mind. Only about 7 weeks to go, and we have a minicamp later as an appetizer before we suffer that brutal lull before it all gets started again. So, in the meantime, here's your current New England Patriots roster count. The lack of NFL Europe exemptions (and bonus exemptions) should make things easier to follow this year (unlike last year, when I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the Pats had 82 counting against the 80-man limit until I just now realized they got an NFLE bonus exemption for both Barthelmes and Baugher being on the practice squad for at least 6 games in 2006 - it was 3 for the 53, but that's all ancient history now that NFLE is done).

Good stuff, Pats1.

Anyone think Fifita or Henry Smith can/will make the team as a backup nose tackle?

It's possible. They'll carry 6-7 DLs, so it'll be between them and Santonio essentially.

On the simple basis of their names, I'm rooting for Steve Fifita (a 300 lb poodle?) and Tyson DeVree (obvious porn star work name).

I prefer Bo Ruud and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

2 moves I think will surprise.

Eckel will be the FB instead of Evans. Reason being, Eckel is the better ST player and if he can be close to as good a blocker than IMO its an easy choice.

Cassell will be cut or traded (if not than the hype around Guitirez is off base). I dont see us carrying four like we did with Brady so someones got to go. Obviously it wont be O'Connell so if the Guitirez hype is true (meaning the Coaches agree with the media rumors) than look for the team to either move Cassell or cut him.

EDIT: maybe not so surprising but still I am predicting.

Morris!
Where you been, man?

He was running great when he got hurt last year. Can't wait to see how he healed up.

I prefer Bo Ruud and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Truth is: now we no longer have a Randy Gay on the roster the search for humorous names got a lot, lot tougher.

All of which resemble those of current Patriots.

Maybe we should shorten it to Ben Ellis. Can't be stealing Jarvis Green's name like that.

When I first saw this name, I really thought it was a typo for Jarvis Green. What an odd moniker.

I had come across it in my draft lists pre-draft..but had to look again when I saw it.

Yes, unfortunately, gone are the days of a Randy Hand or Shockmain Davis.

I prefer Bo Ruud and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Ruud has an excellent pedigree. That said I think Guyton and Redd are both more intriguing prospects. Alexanders days could be numbered.

Green-Ellis put up great numbers on what I believe was the worst passing offense in college. Tough roster to crack though with 2 FB's fairly firmly entrenched.

Kaczur I would assume is on the bubble with O'Callaghan, Britt and now Ross right behind him.

Punter will also be a position of interest with Drago in the mix.

CB is a throw-it-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks spot. Good mix of draft picks and vets. Should be a good battle. I just hope they can form an identity quickly.

My surprise 53 guy is Jonathan Stuper.

This is my (very) early breakdown of the likely 53. Italicized names indicate people I think will be cut/traded.

Great list the one thing I might disagree with is that I think Larry Izzo may be on the bubble. He is still a good STer but Pierre Wood has surpassed him as the best STer on the team and I think Izzo no longer brings as much to the team as a younger player like Ruud might. This assumes Ruud can play STs.

Also 4 cornerbacks? I think Webster stays also.

I understand childbirth can be a strange and confusing time but how did his parents come up with "BenJarvus Green-Ellis".

No way. No way.
