It's scary how his career arc compares with Tony Simmons'.

He was so god damn fast, shame he couldn't stay motivated...

Hope he can play better there. (Although I have my own doubts).

I remember that guy. What happened to him? He was supposed to be the next big thing, I drafted him to my fantasy team, and then *poof* he was gone.

He was fast, but was stupid and couldn't run routes. He bounced around the NFL for a couple years and then went up north and played for the BC Lions for awhile. I believe he was cut after this past season (he was oft-injured).

Sound familiar? Yeah, Bethel is Tony Simmons.

For what it's worth, Chris Canty was playing pro football up until last year too. In af2, the Arena League's minor league. That's right, former first round pick Chris Canty was so bad he couldn't even play in the upper division of the Arena League.

Wish him luck, always will remember him for 2 big plays, a diving catch to seal a victory against the Seahawks and the Kick off return for a TD with 8 seconds left in the 1st half against the Colts. HUGE momentum swing on that return. Colts had just scored to close out the half, or so they thought........:D

Ironically, I just bought a Bethel Johnson jersey off of eBay today. The purchase price? $0.01.

Are you serious? - And if so - Why?

Why not just go and buy a Katzenmoyer jersey while you are at it.

Eh, I always like adding to my jersey collection, especially when the price is right. Already have the Katzenmoyer as well.

Don't forget the TD vs the Titans in the Fisher Frost Face Bowl. I'm still cold.

He had two other big plays that go relatively unheralded that I'll always remember him for as well:

1. Huge kickoff return against the Titans in October 2003 after Tennessee took a late 4th quarter lead. Pats started at the Titans' 15yd line, then punched it in with a Mike Cloud TD run, shortly followed by Law's pick-6 to ice the game. That kickoff return was a huge momentum re-gainer after Tennessee took the lead.

2. Long kickoff right before halftime of the famous Broncos MNF game that set up Vinatieri for an unexpected FG as the half expired. Denver had just scored and appeared headed into halftime on a huge roll. Those 3 points were big in tempering Denver's momentum. Without that FG, who knows how the end-of-game would have played out.

Regards,
Chris

In a bit of poetic justice, I suppose, the guy I wanted the Pats to select, at the end of the 2nd round of the '03 draft, was Kelley Washington. I couldn't understand why the FO threw away the 120th overall pick, just to move up 5 spots to take someone who would've been available at #50, and beyond.

Besides his KO return for a TD at Indy in '03, and his game-clinching catch vs. Seattle in '04, don't forget his performance in the POs vs. Tenn. in '03 (TD catch and reverse-reverse for a key 1st down).

Those are the two I remember too. That is the reason why you squib kick at the end of the half......although every other time a squib has been called since I can remember the opposing team got the ball at the 40 with no time off the clock and a chance for a hail marry.

Will always have a soft spot for Bethel if only because he was really nice to me when I imposed myself on him, so to speak.
