It's hard to ever question Bill Parcells when it comes to football decision making, but this stance seems unreasonable.

I really don't understand how they can pass on a potential 3rd or maybe even 2nd round pick and dump Taylor's salary. Taylor only has maybe 2 years left in him. These picks are valuable for a rebuilding process which Parcells was brought there to do in the first place.

Someone's going to blink. Either Taylor is going to shape up and follow Parcells' marching orders, or Parcells is going to except a lower quality pick to ship him out.

My bet is on Parcells winning. I think he understands the danger in walking into a new situation and immediately setting the precedent that, if you whine long enough, we'll give you what you want.

Re: The Dolphins have now gone crazy.

as per PFT there is some rumor of chargers and fins talking about taylor.

I chalk this up to Parcells taking a hard line to send a message to other players.

Look at MangIdiot and the Jets - they have players blackmailing them left and right threatening to sit out to force a trade or a contract negotiation. MangIdiot and the Jets front office have no respect or crediblity because they have given in to such demands for players. Better to pass on a 2nd round pick and have discipline on the roster than to have the mess that the Jets have created for themselves.

Re: The Dolphins have now gone crazy.

It's a smart play by Parcells. Taylor won't be a factor when/if the Phins get it together on the field. He's too old.

What better way to instill the fear of God in your players than to take an uncompromising stance with a guy who actually isn't a loafer or malcontent?

Cant JT just retire officially be off the team then sign with another team?

There has to be something to prevent that. Otherwise players under contract would just retire every time they wanted to become a FA.

I believe if you file your retirement papers, you are required to sit out one full season.

Taylor didn't start this, Tuna did. This is just posturing, and publicly at least it's been remarkably one sided. Tuna doesn't want a high profile player like Taylor on HIS new team any more than Taylor wants to finish his career playing through a rebuild for a tyrant. He snubbed Taylor from the get go. Taylor found out second hand he was being shopped before the draft. They talked about this on NFLN last week. This is classic Parcells changing of the locker room guard BS. He'll trade him before camp because he doesn't want a strong personality in camp that isn't beholding to him. He's just trying to make Taylor and Huiezenga (who said Taylor deserved to play for a contender and also promised Bill he would not sell the team during the duration of his contract - only to sell 50% within a month...) look like the bad guys in Miami and while sending a message that he is determined to get something for Taylor for his rebuild (so other teams won't hold their breath assuming he will be cut). If push comes to shove Jason will likely report to camp to call his bluff and collect his $8M or his freedom. It's really BS to pull this crap with a veteran of Taylor's stature. But it's offseason cover that keeps the media from looking too closely at the actual rebuild.

Re: The Dolphins have now gone crazy.

Taylor needs to leave to win, and the dolphins need him to leave to rebuild. Ship him for a 3rd and a 5th and move on.

If he sits out...he's included in teh cap...can Miami afford a player with a high salry that is ZERO on the team?? Is that smart for Parcells?

Despite what Andy Johnson thinks, I think he'd look REAL good in red, white and blue. Especially if it only costs us a 2nd.

Why? Why would Taylor blink? His salary is like 9 or 10 million bucks? If he boycotts all of training camp his fines will be under one million.

He can report the week before game one and get all his game checks.

Parcells cannot get a first round pick for Taylor unless Taylor agrees (by re-doing his deal). Reason: Who would give up a first round pick for a guy with two years on his contract for $18-20 mil? Especially if Taylor says, "You can trade for me, but I won't show up at camp."

Basically (right or wrong) Taylor holds all the cards because of hte size of his contract. He can stay where he is, or decide to whom he will be traded.

I tend to agree Taylor holds the cards..NOT Parcells...so what will they do?? They are not in a great position..he can show up before Game 1..they will have to have his salary as part of the cap..OR will they trade him...cut him? *NOT sure of the structure of the deal how much of a hit that will be..) Not good for the Fins.

look, Taylor wanted and needed to leave miami way before parcells ever got there....

When parcells took the job, he knew that...and he is now playing the role of something he really is.....a grumpy and stubborn old man

also, if i was taylor and they still wouldnt give me my trade, i would show up to every mandatory event, and do jack squat

No. If JT were to retire with years left on his contract, his rights would belong to the Phins until he completed that service.

This is what happened with Barry Sanders and the Lions

This is only partially true. The Phins will get a credit (next year I believe) for each game that Taylor sits out.

My money is on Parcells winning this argument.
