Colvin/Colts marriage imminent?

After having his final season in New England end prematurely because of a foot injury, outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin is now healthy, and if things work out financially, he wouldn't mind suiting up for his hometown Indianapolis Colts. Colvin met with Colts coach Tony Dungy last month and passed a physical, and Dungy relayed last week that he was impressed with Colvin. The Colts are interested if the finances can be worked out, as Colvin would be a pure pass-rushing defensive end in their 4-3 scheme.

Bah... it's probably good for him. His hometown, a position and role that fits his best skill (pass rushing)... but...

No! I just can't be ok with him playing for the Colts! This, in my eyes, is worse than Ty Law playing for the Jets. One, the Colts are more of our rival these days since they're actually competitive, and Two, I really liked what I saw out of Colvin as a person. Ty Law left due to greed, Colvin seemed to leave on sadder terms.

Sigh. He should do whatever's best for his future and family, but I'd rather not have to root against him

Personally, I hope for good things for Colvin. He's a class guy all the way.

On the other hand...I hope he gets hurt in his first game wearing a horse shoe and can't play the rest of the year.

I think he used to work at that crappy dome they just vacated for the new crappy dome that they just built. Whatever.

I would rather him end up somewhere where we won't play against him. It's amazing how all the Pats players can find a job so easily after leaving our team - and with good teams or lots of money. Crazy.

Putting money aside, I agree that the reason nothing's happened was because he wasn't over the injury. But the fact that he passed a physical says, to me anyway, that something could happen somewhere soon. He's a good player and would do very well on the Colts.

Whenever I heard him speak in interviews Colvin sounded like a real good guy. As a fan, sure, you don't want to see any player move on to a rival team but this is a business. Colvin owes nothing to the Patriots once he became a free agent just like the Patriots were not bound to not cut him. If playing for Indy is in his best interest, whether it be that's where he gets the most money, or gets to play for a contender, or because he doesn't have to move, I say all the power to him. Who are we to begrudge him for that decision? Don't forget, we signed a long time Colt to the roster this off season too.

I agree, except he was hurt for about 50% of his games for us, so if he signs with the enemy, I have to hope he misses AT LEAST 50% of the games for them too...but for as class a guy as he was, I just have to hope it's little, niggling injuries that bother him just enough that he can't play to his potential and he keeps getting paid (and eating up their cap space) while he is ineffective. Sort of like I'm sure every Dolt fan hoped while he played for us. And regardless of his hometown affiliation, don't pretend for a second that the Dolts fans didn't cheer like crazy when one of our free agents went down with what could have been a career ending hip injury. I only wish their franchise the same, but I hope for the man he comes out of it paid well, and producing little. Hope that made sense.

I hope he has a Pro Bowl season, no matter where he lands. If it happens to be the Dolts, good for him. I hope he starts when we play them in the regular season and in the playoffs too.

Then, I want to beat the stuffing out of his team and run the ball down his throat all day long.

I'm more idealistic. I hope he personally does really well, but the rest of the team all takes a step back

Though, if he projects to a 4-3 defensive end, how much time will he see with Freeney and Mathis on the team? His best strength is pass rushing, and it's not like those two are slouches at it that they would want to replace on 3rd and long

The difference is that the Pats cut Colvin and never made an effort to pick him up. The Pats let AV get into free agency out of RESPECT. And the guy goes and signs with the Colts straightaway without even pretending to hear an offer for the Pats. AV's signing feels like a betrayal. If Colvin signs with the Colts it just doesn't seem as bad. But it will probably be just as bad to play against him. Ah whatever, just can't seem to get worked up about this.

What fun is watching football if you can't root for injuries? Say you're watching the Colts play the Jets. You're telling me you wouldn't be at all amused to see Payton blow out his knee or something?

Unless Freeney has lost a step after the injury. Without the speed, he's nothing. And that might be what BB was worried about wrt Colvin too.
