Isn't it tampering for a head coach to encourage a player on another team to skip practices?

During a Thursday press conference, Jets coach Eric Mangini was asked about whether he’d tolerate a player missing the offseason program to participate in a dancing competition.

Said Mangini: “Having such a passion for ballroom dancing, like I do, I’ve watched some of [Dancing with the Stars] and [Jason Taylor] is pretty good. He’s impressive. I didn’t vote, but I thought he did a great job and the longer he wants to stay out of Miami’s camp, I think he should.”

Re: Jets Tampering

That's a good point. I'm not sure. It sounds like it could be construed as tampering, but it's not exactly direct (unlike the Deion Branch fiasco).

Are you freakin' kidding me. I saw the broadcast, and even tho I dislike the guy, I thought it was funny.

I doubt highly that Parcells will do business with that backstabber. Guys, Parcells will trade Taylor to the highest bidder outside of the division. Sadly, the guy who ran the team last year is no longer there. Parcells is no fool.

I thought it was funny too. But rules are rules.

Doesn't matter if you misunderstood the rule or if it was a minor infraction, break the rules you get punished. Mangini was telling the player on another team to skip practice. Rule says you can't do that. Might have been the funniest thing since Monty Pyton, but it violates the rules.

He made a funny.... that's it. It's no different than if a coach had been asked about Randy Moss taking plays off and joking "I hope he takes them all off".

:rofl:this thread is absurd. this is a parody thread, right?

I was tempted to tell you to lighten the heII up until I saw how this IR practice thing may be blowing up. Rest assured if Belichick joked around like that, some former player would have an exclusive interview on ESPN explaining how he was "recruited" by Belichick in the same manner.

I think we all need to realize that Tom Jackson almost had it right back in 03....He said "they hate their coach" and what he should have said was "we hate their coach"

You know, I've been thinking real hard about that lately, and it's not that big of a deal... just replace one word and it makes the whole thing right.

We've been too hard on Tom Jackson, it's only one word and if we replace it he was correct. Isn't that the crux of the matter here?

So was Spygate. Honestly.

I don't think anyone here actually believes the Jets should be penalized for tampering (in this case) but the OP is just pointing out the ridiculousness of Spygate and taking everything literally and ignoring context.

Actually it was meant more as a parody of IR-gate than camera-gate, but :yeahthat:
