From PFT:

MANGINI IS HAPPY THAT TAYLOR ISN’T WITH THE FINS
Posted by Mike Florio on May 22, 2008, 4:24 p.m. EDT
During a Thursday press conference, Jets coach Eric Mangini was asked about whether he’d tolerate a player missing the offseason program to participate in a dancing competition.

Said Mangini: “Having such a passion for ballroom dancing, like I do, I’ve watched some of [Dancing with the Stars] and [Jason Taylor] is pretty good. He’s impressive. I didn’t vote, but I thought he did a great job and the longer he wants to stay out of Miami’s camp, I think he should.”

On a completely unrelated note, Mangini also talked about the contract situation involving disgruntled tight end Chris Baker. Like many head coaches, Mangini found a way to move his mouth, allow words to come out, and not really say anything. He said that G.M. Mike Tannenbaum is handling issues relating to Baker’s contract.

Baker claims that the team promised during the 2007 season to adjust his deal. Published reports citing unnamed sources indicate that the Jets believe they made no such commitments.

A passion for ballroom dancing? What is this world coming to when a head coach of a professional football team talks about his passion for ballroom dancing?

You wouldn't be saying that if he was your player Mr Mangini. Don't dare say you would either...

This is actually funny. He's sticking it to Parcells.

Yeah, he's a rat, but rats can be funny too.

sounds like someone who wants to make a deal...

That was funny way to handle the question. And if BB had said it, there would be three threads on how BB brilliantly handled the mediaots.

Lets take off the home glasses and hate.

If Tomase were to tell a knock knock joke at a party I wouldn't laugh.

If the man who started SpyGate makes a cute little comment about Jason Taylor, I'm not going to laugh.

I will agree though, with the post saying if BB said this people would be rolling on the ground in laughter, which is true. I remember his "book-club" comment (a fairly common line) was praised as some type of comic genious when in reality it wasn't that funny.

I missed the humour in Mangini's comments after my brain was pretty slow to catch on to the context they were in.

Still, Eric Mangini isn't funny.

Actually, it wasn't funny at all. I could think of 100 different ways to stick it to Walsh better than that.

Ok, now you can knock the guy for actually watching Dancing with the Stars or for being on the Jets staff...cause that's funny...but for knowing how to ball room dance...I'd leave that alone, simply because...well...if you really know how to Tango...my friends...you get laid a bunch.

I agree it was a stupid question. BB would just say, "Taylor does not play for the Patriots." This was funny and an attempt to be "nice" to a reporter. Yes, a stupid reporter.:D

I agree. Instead of the book club line I'd have gone with "... we didn't shop for curtains."

Although ESPN would then do articles on BB and Walsh's homosexual relationship.:D
