Should Pats have their own dome?

No. Football was meant to be played outside.

And if this weren't coming off a season which displayed an aerial assualt never before seen in the league, and the Pats were a smash-mouth run the ball team, who relied on defense, field position, and run blocking, I don't know if the question would even be asked.

Yeah but we are coming off of a season like that. That's what our team is now. And that's what the NFL as a whole is now. And you could leave the roof open for games against teams that suck in the elements.

All stadiums should be outdoors and without domes. In fact, domes should be against NFL rules. Football in the elements is part of what makes the game worth playing and watching.

And, while they're at it, it's time to stop just playing in the warm weather cities. If the corporate seat holders can't handle a Boston winter, let them sell their tickets to people who can. The Super Bowl should be available to every NFL city.

I agree that all domes/retractable roofs should be banned. But as long as there are teams with retractable roofs, they have an advantage over teams that don't. Retractable roofs aren't going to be banned though, so why not have one if you can?

Domes are for ****ies.

I hate the cold, but the thought of the Pats playing indoors makes me sick.

Football should be played outside by manly men.

Domes are for ****ies.

First off, they will never allow a super bowl in New England. They simply do not want to risk having a blizzard come in the day of their 'big show'. So you can forget about that. Personally, I think all cities should get a chance at a s.b., but it will never happen.
Secondly, the weather in New England is an advantage come december. Would Tommy score more with a dome? well yea, but the team wants to win games, not a scoring competition between Tom, and peyton.
Thirdly, who's paying for this dome? Everyone is already *****ing about the ticket prices, and any additions will just raise the price more.

Basically, my answer to the poster is, HELL NO. :D

They had one in Detroit and will have one in Indy, both places are susceptible to weather, but they have a roof/dome.

How is the weather an advantage for the Pats the way the team is currently structured?

As a Jet fan I would laugh at the Pats it they put Roof over there stadium.:)

Celebrate the weather!

Maybe it's not, but putting in a dome or retractable roof for the CURRENT team is incredibly short-sighted. It is a business decision that has to do with alot more than just wins and losses. That being said, how well did the Pats play in domes last year? Not too well, I think. Barely won in Indy, and then there was that other game in February.

I think the elements are an advantage for the home team because they get a chance to live, breathe, and practice in them any time they like. It's easy for any team to replicate a dome setting in practice by using a bubble. Not so easy to replicate a nor'easter.

how is it an advantage? warm weather teams have trouble playing us in december. snow, and high winds make it hard for teams to pass on us. I'll give ya the detroit one, but thats because they have a new stadium, not just because of their dome. same with indy. If the nfl could, they would play all games in the deep south. Theyve been worried about weather issues ever since the atlanta ice storm. god forbid weather should mess with their 'big game'. I'd much rather see a snowy s.b., than another perfect weather dome game. As for the way we're structured? I think you'll see a little more running than the pass happy offense we saw last year. Besides, i really don't see us paying for a roof, just to help out tommy, and randy. They do just fine with what they have.

Perfectly said...I LOATHE domes...LOATHE THEM.
Besides, the aerial attack couldn't do that much in the very last game they played in a stadium with the roof closed now could it? Rain is worse for passing than snow anyway I would think.
Did I mention that domes are teh suck? :D

I'd be in favor of enclosing Gillette...and pumping in crowd noise so the wine and cheese crowd doesn't have to exert themselves.

If you think tix are too cheap now, bring on the dome. If you want to pay double for air conditioned games, then support the roof. I say forget it.

When the Krafts were trying to build in So Boston he was going to build a dome just down the street from the convention center. The Commish told the legislature that if they supported Kraft Boston would get a Super Bowl. Finneran told them to pound sand, Menino didn't want to hear about it because he wanted to build a new city hall on the site that Kraft had bought the rights to. So, in the end, Hartford was the choice. Imagine what would have happened if they built in Hartford! You think traffic is bad on Rt. 1?

A dome would be OK, it would make a stadium that has no acoustics loud, but the home field advantage that we have in Dec would be gone. I wil pick a win in Dec over a dome and a Super Bowl any day!

Good post.

There was a lot of resident opposition to that because of "traffic in the neighborhood"...and Menino was really more OK with it than against it..the idea of the City Hall being there was not at all in the works..(the convention center also but not shure of the timing..) Many thought Kraft did not 'grease the wheels" all that much before the meeting and that was ALSO a big reason for opposition. Finneran didn't want ANY infrastructure money spent either in Foxboro OR in South Boston...although they had spent a LOT for the New Garden. In 1999...that area of Soth Boston was all industrial..there was no courthouse and no ICA..and theBig Dig changing things. What I alsways found as odd was that when teh Sox a few years later wanted to build, the neighbors were better with it..
10 games vs 80...so traffic being bad was just an excuse. The highways to Hartford are four lanes wide..so trying to say that it would have been worse than a 2 lane road is silly.

Save the taxpayers money by hanging a bunch of tarps :D

what good would a roof do, if you got that big gapping hole by the light house?

Adding a roof, takes away this

It's not just about the weather. Foxborough doesn't have the infrastructure to support an event like the Super Bowl. Inadequate hotels. Inadequate transportation. Inadequate restaurants. Inadequate entertainment venues. It's one of the drawbacks with a stadium so far away from a major city.

Say what you want about Indy, but they host several auto races a year, a few of which draw about 400,000 people. They've hosted several NCAA final fours. They have the necessary infrastructure in place to host a Super Bowl. Ditto Detroit.

Houston and Jacksonville were ill-equipped to host the Super Bowl. Foxboro would be about 50 times worse. It wouldn't be quite as bad as Green Bay, but it would be close.
