I think Chad will be a nice complement to the receiving corps this year.

He has the ability, lets see him deliver.

Interesting to hear him going on and on about "learning the playbook." How much does the playbook change from year-to-year? Is it a 100% overhaul? 90%? 50%? 20%?

Unless its a 90-100% overhaul, not too encouraging hearing about how he is still working on it. But again, I don't know how much the playbook changes in the offseason ...

I understand what you are saying but your take is that absolute most pessimistic way of looking at what he said. I don't know how much the playbook changes year-to-year, but I would assume it would be significant enough that there are still aspects to learn for everyone (Brady included) during the first passing camp.

Also, bear in mind that CJack had very few responsibilities in the offense his first year (IIRC WR screen, downfield blocking and post routes). His 2nd year he had no responsibilities in the offense due to injury and depth chart. The fact that he is studying hard says to me that he is being asked to take on more responsibilities in the offense. Doesn't mean he can grasp everything and apply it to the field, but his interview tells me he recognizes the opportunity and isn't going to be mentally unprepared when his time comes...starting this week.

If he said that he had the playbook down and just needed to show it on the field, then I would be worried.

The Pats playbooks are supposed to be some of the most complicated in the league. I'm sure there is still a couple of things that Jackson needs to learn. However, it sounds like he's been working his tail off in the offseason and should be ready to come in and play. Looking forward to seeing what Jackson can do this year if he remains injury free.

I think his mention of the learning the playbook is very telling. By no means am I a CJ basher but this did not leave me feeling all that good about him. This is year 3 and regardless of what his resposibilities were in year 1 and 2, the learning of the playbook should not be an issue.
While on PUP last year, he should have had that playbook memorized front and back.

...would you have felt any better? I would have thought he didn't recognize the opportunity he has this year or wasn't taking it seriously.

I wouldn't read too much into every word he uses - especially as he's probably not choosing his words too carefully. Let's see how he does on the field, I'm sure he knows the playbook now. Talking about "being in the playbook" is a nice, generic way to say he's working on the mental aspects of the game.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the primary purpose of the passing camp is instruction.

"It's a teaching camp," said Belichick. "We try to install a good part of our system and give them a chance to execute it and get familiar with it and hear it called and try to run it, just getting a chance to go through it on the field in a team setting."

So the coaches are installing the system this week and CJack is supposed to say he has everything down already? Even if the system is 90% the same as past years, his responsibility in that system should be much different this year.

Certainly his responsibilities will be different this year. All I did was voice my concerns based on what he said in the interview. If you are looking for an argument or fight, you will have to look elsewhere. Sorry!

I’m sure these coaches are going to give me the plays and give me the opportunity to make that happen.

I didn't get all warm and fuzzy reading it either. The 'tone' to me seemed defensive... I didn't like the quote about because he wants the coaches to GIVE him plays instead of him earning them. To earn the the plays, he will then have an opportunity. I get the feeling he may not have the right attitude to be a Patriot and doubt he stays past his rookie contract.

It's a slow day when we're analyzing the diction and syntax chosen by Chad Jackson in a post practice interview.

How many people actually believe what he says in this brief interview reflect what he will do with the team? Playing time is not awarded based on interviews.

Chris, was he even in anything more than a towel?

No telling under the Belchick system - But I'm willing to bet its more complicated than most. That what Ernie does - Devises new plays based on old systems and plays.
