Tom Curran's and Felger's defense of Tomase is weak at best

Just because She is a reporter doesn't mean that She can't tell the truth. It'll take courage ,I know and She won't be viewed as one of the Boys but all I asked her to do is show Me one piece of Print Media Criticsm of John Tomase and I'll withdraw My statement.

You don't get it, do you?

She CAN'T. It's not her job. She is a reporter. Her paper won't run it. Have you seen Reiss critcizing Tomase? Gasper?

You're asking Gostkowski to play linebacker.

The more you go on with this ridiculous point, the more you are just embarrassing yourself.

Link Me to the article that You or anyone else has written that states what John Tomase did was wrong and wreckless and where in was unfathomable that He let the lie stay in place for over 100 days and I'll be happy to withdraw my statement.Until I see it You're all singing from the same song sheet.I know it 's not comfortable to be linked with bottom feeders but until I see a Profile in Courage,You're all the same.

I'm not a columnist, and am not paid to share my opinion with people. BELIEVE ME, I have an opinion on all of this, but I'm not in the position to share my thoughts in print.

I accept the fact that You can't share Your opinion but You'd be hard pressed to find any Print Media Criticism of John Tomase that doesn't start wth "John Tomase is a fine reporter,John Tomase is a Good Guy". A Good Reporter would not do what He did based on what He wrote today. He never saw a tape and He had no way of knowing if it existed or not. That's not being a Good Reporter to Me.The Boys Club in The Media certainly seems a little chummy.

Ugh. Once again. The examples of which you speak "JT is a good guy, a fine reporter etc" - - can you give just ONE example of that being written in the past two days by a REPORTER?

Those have all been uttered, written etc. by COLUMNISTS.

Believe me, I agree with you in THOSE situations.

Where JT got into trouble (for years) is EXACTLY the same divide that you don't understand - -he was a reporter who thought he was a columnist.

Smarter people like SMY, Reiss, Gasper, Breer, etc. all know better.

You might be right about in print media; I haven't read anything locally, and well, I don't have time to read every story out there. But Matt Mosley on espn.com's Hashmarks had comments this morning that at the very least aren't defensive of John, and while the posters on sportsjournalists.com have the anonymity of screen names, many there have been critical of John.

As for the boys club...clearly I'm not part of that, and not just because I lack the hardware.

Columnist write stories to share their opinion. Writer who based their stories on speculation write fiction, not news nor sport news.

From what I surmise from some of those Viagara addicted veteran columnists, "software" might be a better term!

Thanks for the link.I'll withdraw my statement as it pertains to Beat Writers. As far as Columnists are concerned My statement stands until proven otherwise.
As far as being a member of the Boy's Club,I'll quote the old Groucho Marx line,"I wouldn't want to join any club that would have Me as a Member! LOL!!

Both argue that Tomase's only real mistake was to say Walsh "videotaped" the walkthrough instead of "monitored" the walkthrough.

I've heard that Lee Harvey Oswald's only real mistake when he decided he disliked JFK's politics was to "assassinate" him rather than just "vote against" him.

It's like I tell the players all the time: if I found out (definitively) that one of them was cheating on their wife and then wrote that they were all cheating on their wives, that would be wrong.
So do tell...who's stepping out on their wives? :p

I look at the columnists' defense of Tomase the same way I look at any other profession that seems to have a "fraternity"...physicians, police etc. Even if some of them may have their doubts, they "err" on the side of defending their peers even if it is a stretch logically to do so, especially considering it may be they who need the same courtesy down the road. Though I could have done WITHOUT Tony M's scathing comments on the sheeplike/idiot qualities of the fans..that column DID piss me off immensely.

Honestly, I'm not sure that wasn't a nervous breakdown on the part of Tony Masserotti. Seriously, that read like a desperate cry for help.

This is interesting. Even though after some thought I understood what you were saying, I never made the distinction between a reporter and a columnist. Is it correct to assume that what Shalise is to ProJo, is the same as what Latoyia Edwards is to NECN? What are the ramifications for a reporter that would express an opinion in a public forum like this one? How could NC Patriot have worded his message so that Shalise would not find it offensive? Is $30 Bourbon better than $30 Scotch?

A closer analogy would be between an news reporter and a movie critic.

Think of it as the difference between Tom Brokaw and Gene Shalit. (OK, I grew up in the 70's)

The whole tone of Tomase's original article was that Walsh made a deliberate effort to spy on the Rams whether he acted alone or was ordered. What Walsh admitted to that he just happened to be present at the Rams walkthrough because he was still setting up and no one asked him to leave and he just relayed what he saw to DaBoll.

Personally, I see a huge difference between what Tomase said Walsh did and what Walsh admitted to doing. Making Walsh's piece accurate would have taken far more than changing a few words in the article.
I believe that the original charge was "Pats Videotaped Walk-through." If the contention is that Walsh "monitored" the walk-through, then that's what the charge should be: Walsh monitored the walk-through. Man, these guys play hard and loose with the truth until it doesn't suit there purposes.

OK, that works and thanks for not making me think of Dan Shaughnessy. ;)

When Curran and Felger come up with that defense, all I can think of is the old Saturday Night Live skits when Jon Lovitz would be saying something like "uh yeah, that's it, yeah, uhh, I meant monitored, yeah, that's the ticket, monitored, that's it!"

Tommy Flanagan the Liar...heh..here's a segment..

Announcer: And now, a message from Pathological Liars Anonymous.

Tommy Flanagan: Hello, my name is Tommy Flanagan, and I'm a member of Pathological Liars Anonymous. In fact.. I'm the president of the organization!

I didn't always lie. No, when I was a kid, I told the truth. But then one day, I got caught stealing money out of my mother's purse. I lied. I told her it was homework - that my teacher told me to do it. And she got fired! Yeah, that's what happened!

After that, lying was easy for me. I lied about my age and joined the army. I was thirteen at the time. Yeah.. I went to Vietnam, and I was injured catching a mortar shell in my teeth. And they made me a three-star general! And then I got a job in journalism, writing for the National Enquire.. er, Geographic! Yeah.. I was making twenty thousand a ye.. month! In fact, I won the Pulitzer Prize that year! Yeah, that's the ticket.

And then my cousin died - Joe Louis - and I took it hard. Maybe too hard - I tried to kill myself. Yeahh.. I did kill myself! Sure! I was medically dead for a week and a half! It was a woman that brought me out of it - Indira Gandhi! Yeah, right.. And she told me about Pathological Liars Anonymous.

Oh, you'd be surprised how many famous people belong. In fact.. at one of the meetings I met my wife - Morgan Fairchild! Yes, I'm a change man now, and all because of Pathological Liars Anonymous. Why, I - I even have my picture on the cover of Newsweek magazine. Yeah. Every day! Yeah.. that's the ticket! Yeah, you betcha!
