this is a long standding rule a reminder was sent out in 06 and 07 that
the Pats choose to ignore! It's Illegal to tape signals...The Pats have
been doing it for 8 years...building a file on all teams. Do you think
they were doing it for fun? If you could read the defensive signals and
call your offensive plays accordingly, could it be an advantage? This is
not about the Broncos or anybody else who has been caught circumventing
the rules. It's about what the Pats did, and if you think it could be ban
advantage...Don't be angry with me because I feel that they gained an un
fair advantage over their opponents...Had they simply stopped their
illegal tapings when they were asked to in 2006 and 2007 we woulden't be
having this exchange...This is not biased reporting or jealousy, I have 3
world championship rings...It's just my opinion that people who don't live
in Boston will always wonder about the Pats Championships and if they
cheated to get them...

The truth hurts and I think deep down Pats fans know something went down
and it hurts...I appreciate all the passion of the Pats fans and if you
want to hate me for my honest opinion be my guest!

P.S. This is a canned response trying to answer the major points brought
by the Boston Nation...Over the last 3 days I've returned over 200 emails
and I will be away from a computer for the next few days.

Re: More Infor from the great Mark Scheleth..

Patriot fans, you/we need to stop all this talk of it being OK to tape before 2006.
The memo was sent out to tell everybody to knock it off, that there will be enforcement coming if it continued.

That said, Shlereth is a moron to say that the Patriots have files on teams that can be used.
Give me a break. I know he can't be that dumb to think teams don't change signals...and often. Very often.
We have more than enough ammo on many, many points and don't need to try and speak to pre-memo rules.

I call it scouting, if it was used in the game then it is cheating, but I call it scouting since it could not be used in game

Mods feel free to move this thread in the Mark Scheleth thread that was started yesterday, thank you...

...um, correct me if I'm wrong. Does that mean pre-memo there was an agreed no-enforcement?

Maybe I'm a blind Patriots homer and need you to set me right.

I wouldn't go that far.
But it seems pretty clear to me that it was on the books that you couldn't tape from the sidelines.
Just my opinion.

I just feel , that what is the difference from those tapes and coaches tapes.. No difference, now if they are using it during a game.. Yeah that is cheating, but those tapes no way could be used in game ...

If you read the rule, you'd realize that the rule said it was OK to tape.

Secondly, the NFL also said it was OK to tape after they sent the memo because they said what the Phins and Jets did was OK.

Learn something first and then come back.

How is it clear to you?

Did you read the rule?

It's clear to most people that the rule said YOU COULD as long as you didn't use it in the game.

Read the rule.

Re: More Infor from the great Mark Scheleth..

I agree the tapes weren't used in-game, and that's the major point.
Walsh would have loved to squeel about handing over tapes at halftime, but he said it never happened.
I'm surprised he didn't just lie and say he did.
Belichick, who doesn't like to speak more than he has to, vehemently denied tapes were used in the game being played.

Schlereth keeps speaking as though it's fact the Patriots used the tapes in the same game even though everyone, even the Patriot hater Matt Walsh, said the tapes stayed in the camera until the end of the games.

I've read the rule. I don't know it can be clear to most people that you could tape from the sidelines.
Sorry, that's one thing I just can't say I believe in this whole bs
story.
But my point is still the same. The story has been grossly overstated with lies from the Patriot haters about what was gleaned and the BS about deception.
There was no deception. Coaches were forced to stay on their toes and work a little harder. Big deal. Coaches know enough to change signals and it's not just the Patriots charting signs. It's been part of what coaches do all around the league.
But as to the rule, no, I don't see it the way of most Patriot fans, I guess.

Re: More Infor from the great Mark Scheleth..

The issue about the rule in the book is "for use during a game." Clearly, as we've seen now, the tapes were not used during any game, whether that be the games they were taped or any other game. They were used during the week to get ready for a later game.

If this rule was as crystal clear as we've all been told, why the need for a clarifying memo? And if your answer is "as a warning," then clearly it is a rule that was not taken seriously.

Again though, there were tapes with coaches waving at the camera. If the coaches felt this was such a big deal, we would have heard about it in 2004.

Re: More Infor from the great Mark Scheleth..

honestly schelerth and ESPN have acheived what they wanted. 100's of readers responses and emails and hits on their site and increase in viewership.

The rule in the bylaws specifically bans taping for use in that game. Maybe it was poorly worded, but it was never amended. The 2006 memo specifically identifies sidelines and this is where BB got into hot water. He interpreted the memo to be no sideline taping for use in games. As an attorney, I think he interpreted this in much the same way a pronouncement from a legal authority interprets the law (e.g., the IRS interpreting a rule by Congress). PLEASE reread it. Yes, he should have sought clarification from the league on this, but we all know Bill hates this stuff. He ignored the '06 memo to his detriment to which he now admits. Schlereth on the other hand has no clue as to what he is talking about.

The best response to this idiotic statement is to ask whether the fact they had the first perfect 16 game regular season with the core players and coaching staff may indicate, as indicated by Scouts Inc., that the minor rule breaking had little or no impact on the prior super bowls.

Schlereth's three world championship rings are tainted far more than the Patriots'. Cheating on the salary cap, sir?
