"Spygate tapes simply streamlined the scouting process"

However, these videotapes likely were not used to make in-game adjustments because there simply is not enough time during game action and a 12-minute halftime to decipher and decode what those tapes contain. At halftime coaches and personnel staff are barely able to get a drink, use the restroom and relay to players the most basic things they saw in the first half, before the team heads back onto the field. Where the advantage lies is in the time it takes to prepare for the next game against the particular opponent being filmed: What would normally require watching and splicing hours of tape was already done in one fell swoop during a previous game.
apparently schelerth doesnt think so

This is what I, and others, have been saying for months. The Patriots did nothing additional in terms of knowledge but filming signals was faster and more accurate than other methods of "scouting signals".

This is a breakthrough article...highly recommended. Thank you, Scouts, Inc.

Easily the best and most accurate thing I have read, regarding the actual impact of filming defensive signals. I wish the Pats would expand on this, and put it in full page ads in every major Newspaper in the country.

We lost a first round draft choice because of this.

Too bad it won't happen, I agree, every jerkoff mediot should have to write this on the blackboard 1000 times.

I don't think it's going too far to call this a must-read. It's amazing what you get from people who use logic and a coherent thought process.

I can't believe this was posted on ESPN... WOW! Forward that link on to anyone and everyone you can think of. This is SUCH a non-issue. Yet here I am posting about it... hmmm.

So let's put it this way... the taping and stealing of signals is NOT an issue anymore. The issue is the contrived conspiracy witch hunt. It is the lunacy the coverage and attention this getting. Those involved in reporting the story have become the story.

As for Specter, I equate this to Don Quixote fighting the Windmills he believes are Giants.

Hold on...so you're saying they didn't jump to conclusions? They didn't just spew nonsensical crap back at us (loud enough and often enough that people actually believe it)? You're saying someone took the time to *gasp* investigate this a bit further, rather than just scream bloody murder and condemn Belichick as the devil himself?

Well I'll be...

Seriously, when I get home tonight I'm sending this article to everyone I can think of...Tomase, Fish, Easterbrook, Schlereth, Mazz...this HAS to be read

This was written by Scouts, Inc. not the typical ESPN hacks. Don't make a big deal of it or I am sure they will take it down. Copy and paste it to your hard drive while you can!

Funny how this was held until AFTER NoGoodhell & Senator Comccast.

There's nothing funny about that...

This is in fact an excellent article that formulated an opinion after viewing evidence and making observations off of what they actually saw. It would have been nice to see "Scouts, Inc." come to bat for the Patriots before (as the shmuck Green attempted in the beginning), but they wouldn't have been able to concretely evince these assertions without having seen the videos and the scope of the taping.

The whole matter is disgustingly ironic when you consider that the very thing that people were declaring as evidence of apocalyptic evil (the destruction of the tapes) was more detrimental to the Patriots than the release of the tapes would have been.

To me this just emphasizes the damage that Godell did by destroying the tapes and trying to keep a lid on the situation. This should be a case study of mis-management at a college campus near you!

When people are whispering that the tapes contained film of other teams videotaping the Patriots, you know that's probably the truth. Howie Long was also whispering today about other teams being caught taping last year. Somebody is telling the press these things, somebody who has some credibility or otherwise Long wouldn't bother to repeat such stuff.

Think about it. Everyone is perplexed as to why Goodell destroyed the tapes. No one can figure out why he did it. Only one possible an plausible reason has been mentioned for such destruction: there was evidence of other teams taping on the tapes.

Get enough Pat's fans to donate and you'll have no problem putting an ad in every major paper.

:rocker:

No, the Pats lost a 1st round pick because Belichick misjudged how the media and the common fan would react to anything that could be (even unreasonably) perceived as cheating. Goodell has used the term "unprecedented" a million times when describing the penalty. That isn't by accident. Anything less than an "unprecendented" penalty would bring up serious questions about institutional control.

The penalty and subsequent coverage is wildly beyond what the situation deserved. The media deserves criticism and scorn because they know better and are selling their souls for ratings. Goodell didn't have much of a choice on the penalty and I bet the Kraft family would agree. Goodell is a bozo, but he is just dancing to the music that Belichick mistakenly and unfortunately created.

I owned a recording studio for 15 years with the newest technology available, and things always took longer than most people think, sometimes to the point it would piss me off and I was getting paid by the hour.
