Conversely, the Herald really needs the Patriots too, because sports coverage is a big part of a local tabloid's appeal.

The sides have bigger hammers to threaten each other with that are even more important than legal action. It will all work out via formal or (more likely) informal negotiation.

I say "informal" because I think what really is happening is that the Herald management is saying to themselves "Oh, frack. We screwed up. What do we have to do to fix things from a business standpoint?" The Patriots don't need to bludgeon them; the Herald will sufficiently bully itself.

Those days are over. The Patriots do not need the Herald. They have their own website, their own radio show, are part of the NFL media network and have plenty of opportuinities to market their brand without the assistance of a local tabloid.

Not that many people read the Herald anyway.

Did you read today's articles? If the Herald is bullying itself then they must be sending in the fry cook to twist arms as they aren't doing a very good job of it. Looks like they are coming out gunz a blazing and daring the Patriots to sue them after a hackneyed apology. I was ready to move on from it yesterday. Today is another matter.

Actually, he'd give a nondescript answer to the effect that HE didn't, but if the Krafts did that was an area of the operation they handle and he doesn't and they do a great job at ...

The only way the Boston Herald is going to be a good newspaper again is if Pat Purcell goes down there and fires guys like Massarotti and Tomase and the editor AND the Editor - in - Chief. Because yesterday's "apology" and today's blasting my Massarotti are clear signs that the people in charge of the Herald writers don't have control and that a change is needed.
