Great explanation just there by I think Adam Schein, about the involvement of Comcast as it relates to the conflict that Spector would surely have to have after he accepted their large contributions.

They explained how the deal that had been set with Comcast to carry the NFL Network never happened and also lost was the deal to carry the 8 game NFL package that Comcast would have used to launch their all sports station.

Yet, the Senator, when asked about Comcast says we are not allowed to question his integrity because no one ever has?

I really would like to see details and I say the Senator surely has a conflict of interest here without question.

Please post details of his relationship with Comcast.

Re: NFL Network radio & conflict with spector / comcast

I think some of the more credible news sources let the whole Comcast conflict with Specter simmer on the back burner until all the facts came out. Now that a lot of these media members are satisfied that there is nothing left to investigate, I think many of them will start calling Specter on the carpet because he won't let it end and want to get the government involved.

OpenSecrets.org is a great website for anyone to see who is giving and who is getting.

Specter is I believe the top recipient of money from Comcast. One also needs to dig deeper to find, say, which lawfirms and lobbyists of Comcast also give to him.

Interesting no one in the media has still looked further into how Matt Walsh comes to have an influential $500 an hour DC lobbyist working for him for so many months.

Although Levy's current firm has no clear ties to Comcast, the firm he was with in 2005 does. That lawfirm merged with another lawfirm that also did work with Comcast (i.e. profited from Comcast) on matters related to the FCC.

What quid pro quo exists between Levy and or his current firm and his previous firm that has connections to Comcast, I don't know - but all are extremely active on Capitol Hill and they, their PACS and their employees given hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars to Congress in campaign donations.

Well well wel....Senator Comcast is #2!!

Love this line: Yet, a closer look at Specter's incentives reveals what some say is a most unpleasant stench.

"the Senator from the great state of Comcast." Is this fair?

Comcast is the No. 2 source of campaign funds for the Senator. Comcast execs and employees have given a reported $153,600 in contributions, going back to 1989. The No. 1 contributor since '89 is Blank Rome LLC, a lobbying firm that has dumped $358,483 into Specter's coffers. A chief client of Blank Rome is .... wait for it .... Comcast.

I agree there MIGHT be conflicts with Levy...Comcast...BUT here is how Walsh hired Levy....NYT article March 15
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpa...6A25750C0A96E9C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all
"Levy said another lawyer, who could not represent Walsh because his firm had done work for the Patriots, referred Walsh to him. Levy declined to detail when he started representing Walsh or their financial arrangement, other than to say, ''Mr. Walsh's ability to pay me is more limited than some others.''"........
Holley mentioned that the HIRING might be a scandal...and might come out this AM...he also mentioned an irony to it all...My wondering is about this lawyer who Walsh originally went to...ties with the Pats??

The funniest thing is that Specter just got up on his soapbox and claimed that Goodell has a conflict of interest in these negotiations. I'd love to see Goodell come out and publicly state that any conflict of interest that he might have is a drop in a bucket compared to the one that Specter himself is working through.

Arlen Specter
On February 1, 2008, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, commented on the incident and the NFL's decision to destroy the video tape evidence in a The New York Times article.[4] Specter was quoted in a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as saying, "I am very concerned about the underlying facts on the taping, the reasons for the judgment on the limited penalties and, most of all, on the inexplicable destruction of the tapes."[27] Specter also said he could call Goodell to attend a congressional hearing on the league's antitrust exemption, at which time Goodell would also be asked to comment on the destruction of the tapes received from the Patriots.

Specter had been previously involved in battles involving the NFL. In November 2005, he sought to have the Eagles and the NFL investigated for violation of antitrust laws over their handling of Terrell Owens.[28] In December 2007, he sought to have the law that allows the National Football League to sign lucrative television contracts on behalf of all 32 teams repealed.[29] In February 2008, he sought to have religious organizations declared exempt from NFL copyright laws.[30] Specter has taken $153,600 in campaign contributions from Comcast or those affiliated with Comcast as employees or through its PAC.[31] Comcast Cable is currently involved in a long standing dispute with the NFL with regard to a cable deal concerning NFL Network.[32]

Specter's two biggest donors are the PR firm that represents Comcast and Comcast. He obviously doesn't have a conflict of interest

I was embarrassed for him while watching him ramble on this afternoon.

FGS,

I would suspect you of being part of the media with this type of investigative work but we all know the media can't be bothered to investigate things even when it is as easy a google search.

What is even sadder is that Mark Schelereth agreed with him and keeps bringing up the same crap over and over again..

Schelerth's outrage is ridiculous. He reminds me of Tom Jackson after the Bills kicked the Pats arses on opening day in 2003.

"The players hate their Coach."

Yet another uniformed opinion from a former NFL player employed by ESPN. At this point Schelerth makes Merill Hodge look like a mensa candidate.

Sal Pal's take on this was that the NFL will "tread very lightly" (read: could bend over backwards for Spector) due to the pending legal debate between the NFL and Comcast. His feeling is that the NFL will be looking for a favor from the federal government and could cave in to the good senator's demands in hope to get some favors when in court with Comcast.

I'm not sure Blank Rome LLC is a PR/lobbying firm....I believe it is a law firm...but that is only a small point..one of their LARGEST clients is Comcast..

Is it really going to be a big deal if the Senate investigates this whole thing? What could they possibly find out that wasn't already found?

I actually wrote all of that article myself (and continue to update it, with help from ctpatsfan77), with the exception of that one paragraph on Specter's previous involvement.
