former defensive asst coach to the Pats

http://www.thejetsblog.com/?p=1832

is now currently QB coach at you guessed it NY JETS.

He was the guy apparently Matt Walsh confided in what he saw at the now infamous Rams walk-through.

Re: Who is Brian Daboll?

The better question is "who was Brian Daboll at the time of SB36."

My impression from Holley's book is that he was one of the many up and coming young staffers and Holley and said he's make a good coach someday but I don't think he was much higher on the ladder than Walsh at that time.

You are correct.

He was a defensive assistant in 2001, yes.

Wide receivers coach from 2002-2006, at which time he basically, as it goes, asked to be promoted to quarterbacks coach, was denied by Belichick, and instead took the QB coach position with the Jets.

But really, I think most people here have heard of Daboll. He's not anyone new.

Considering the bang-up job he's done with the Jets QBs, it's a shame we didn't keep him.

Daboll to meet with league officials again... [merged]

SpyGate is history. Or is it?

Jets assistant coach Brian Daboll, a former Patriots assistant who apparently quizzed ex-Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh on what he witnessed at the Rams’ pre-Super Bowl walk-through in February, 2002, will be interviewed for a second time by league officials, it was learned this afternoon.

Daboll was interviewed several months ago by the league, as was Jets coach Eric Mangini, another former Pats assistant, but Daboll’s name emerged prominently after commissioner Roger Goodell’s press conference today in Manhattan.

Daboll, then a defensive assistant for the Patriots, tried to pick Walsh’s brain on what he witnessed during the walk-through, league counsel Gregg Levy said. Walsh told Daboll that he noticed RB Marshall Faulk was being used as a kick returner, Levy said. Daboll also asked Walsh about offensive formations, particularly how the tight ends were being used. That conversation lasted less than 10 minutes, and Daboll and Walsh were the only two people in the room, Levy said.

Daboll apparently didn’t relate that to the league in his first interview. Walsh revealed it today in his three-hour meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell.

“What Matt Walsh told us today was inconsistent with our prior understanding,” league spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail. “Brian Daboll did not tell us that.”

Daboll, through the Jets, released a statement.

“I have cooperated with the league’s investigation and was completely truthful and forthcoming,” said Daboll, the Jets’ QB coach and a close friend of Mangini. “The league has requested to speak with me again. In light of this request, I will not comment further other than to say that I have been and will continue to be completely truthful, cooperative and forthcoming with the league.”

Even if Walsh did give information to Daboll, he apparently didn’t violate any rules. Goodell said there will be no further sanctions against the Patriots. Walsh told Goodell that he wasn’t instructed to spy on the walk-through, and that he was in the stadium only to prepare sideline equipment for the game.

Re: Daboll to meet with league officials again...

Well theres a surprise, a NY newspaper absolutely refusing to let this die. Walsh failed them so lets grasp at straws :bricks:

Re: Daboll to meet with league officials again...

Lets hope they ask questions about the Jets.

Wishful thinking my friend. The Commish used to work for the Jets. He won't touch them.

Re: Daboll to meet with league officials again...

Assuming this happened exactly as Walsh said.......what is the problem?

If they were in Patriot clothes and were supposed to be there and were not there to spy, wouldn;t the Rams be the stupid ones for not asking them to leave??

My understanding of that walk through was there were many other media folk there and it was a very loose walk through.

If this is anything other than Dabol not coming clean, then I do not understand. Pats should be in the clear here, all the way.

Re: Daboll to meet with league officials again...

media and other people in the nfl have nothing else to do . this is just getting ridicolous

I know. It’s the one thing about this I can't get over. BB screwed up and got caught but it’s the complete lack of any accountability for everyone but the Patriots that is horrible. The Colts get charged with pumping in noise for the 100x time, a 3 second investigation. The Jets admit they filmed in 2006 but say the Patriots gave permission. The Patriots say no way and the NFL just accepts the Jets story.

I would like to see the NFL send a letter to every team and coach asking them to come clean on this and offer immunity if the fess up but draconian punishment if they get caught lying.

There's nothing wrong with what Daboll did as a Patriot; however he may have lied to the Commissioner as a Jet. Which makes them culpable, not us.

Re: Daboll to meet with league officials again...

Martz is an idiot for allowing Patriots employees to be on the freakin' field! If I was a Rams fan I would be very disapointed to hear this. Nothing will come from this.

Maybe not... wasn't Martz the one who said something like, "If the Pats stole our signals, they must have stolen the wrong ones," since the Pats really didn't score that much in Super Bowl XXXVI?

Exactly!! A guy in Patriots gear is standing their in full view of everyone watching the Rams walk-through. And if that guy goes back and tells BOB KRAFT himself what he saw what difference does it make??
The spin is hilarious it really is!! It's like Felger says, if Mike Martz was stupid enough to run a walk-through will all kinds of people hanging around (this was post 9/11 by a few months and nobody was on the field without security clearance and being eyeballed extensively) including those wearing Patriots gear then Mike Martz has to answer for that. What Walsh saw and who he told and what they did with that info is irrelevant. This is just Goodell's Arlen Specter pre-emptive postscript to the original NFL dog and pony show.

Re: Who is Brian Daboll?

Well if people didn't know who he was b4 they will pretty soon I think.

It doesn't matter who he is, what he is or where he is...he is irrelevant. Why even post this BS? Please explain.

Is this post supposed to educate some of us? If you think he might be part of some upcoming big story, you're WAY off.

So why did you post this again? seriously

Probably just because Daboll denied asking Walsh what he saw at the walkthrough, contrary to what Walsh said.
I think Daboll would have remembered something like that.
But yeah, it's not going to be any big story.
