The improper term used helps fuel all the cheating accusations and hate against the Patriots. Why not call it what it is, a witch hunt instead of the current term which implies it was a scandal that was secretive (which it wasn't).

A few things drive me crazy:
- Taping is LEGAL in a dozen locations in the stadium, just not on the sideline
- The clarifying memo about sideline taping wasn't sent until 2006
- Jimmy Johnson, Parcells, Shanahan, and other coaches have admitted to videotaping.
- Multiple NFL pros have talked about how it is impossible to gain a competitive edge from taping mid-game. It is used for post-game analysis.
- Every team changes signals up, those who don't are completely ******ed.

I said this the moment he was made new commish, even before CameraHunt, but Roger Goodell is a moron and should be fired/replaced. This whole thing could have been handled so much better than he has done.

It's called "LIE-GATE"....

Where is the FootballFanetic?:D

Liegate still implies there was deception or gross wrongdoing on the part of the Pats, I don't think many people would immediately get that you were talking about the media.

the 'hunt' suffix creates connotations to the old Salem Witch Hunts, in which a lot of controversy and scapegoating was generated over nothing.

Re: We Need to Re-Name This 'SpyHunt' Instead of 'SpyGate'

Did anyone else notice how Goodell said while he's hit a dead end, that he's still open to any other new information!?
This guy secretly wants to keep this thing going!!!!!

The new name is Crucifixtion of BB and his team.

Re: We Need to Re-Name This 'SpyHunt' Instead of 'SpyGate'

In another hour or so, it will be re-named Witch-Hunt with

Torquemada Specter as chief inquisitor.

Or how about 'Patriot Cleansing' gate with Specter as Hitler.

(the scene: Specter touring the 'Patriot cleansing camp' which shows all Patritos personnel and players wearing shirts with a 'videocamera' for a stigma!...)

well, this SHOULD be the end of it but with Specter it will prolong until he gets his Comcast $$$ lobby job $$$....

In the end, it's bullsh*t that all the teams were not 'investigated' by Goodell in some sort of 1 day sweep to get all the 'illegal' videotapes which CLEARLY EVERY team had at 1 point!! Mangini is a little infant ****!

What do you want him to say? That even if new evidence emerges he refuses to punish the Pats any more? You think that would fly with the media or Specter?

Seriously, some of you people need to get a handle on your expectations of Goodell. His press conference today was exactly what was needed to end all this without bringing up talk of a whitewash or cover-up.

If you read between the lines you can tell he has great respect for Kraft and a healthy dose of anger/frustration for Belichick. Goodell is not shedding any tears now that this episode has run its course. Just like he wouldn't if Belichick suddenly decided to retire.

Re: We Need to Re-Name This 'SpyHunt' Instead of 'SpyGate'

as the FRAMe so elquontly puts it it should be Camera instead of spy as spying is legal using camera is not.

So 'Camera-hunt' please

I can get on board with CameraHunt. How do we spread this phrase with the media writers? If Reiss started using this it would spread quickly.

[edit] Changed from SpyHunt to CameraHunt in the thread title and first post.

Yes, but FRAMe calls it CameraGATE. I posted this on the FRAMe thread yesterday.

Great job guys, i like the stuff. Might I suggest getting rid of the "Gate" part all together. While cameragate is much better than spygate, it still draws images of scandal. Furthermore, Watergate is the name of the hotel that was broken into. Gate has nothing to do with the patriots, other than the fact that some idiot thought he was clever when he came up with it. One of the major themes of Watergate was cover up, and that is something the pats are not guilty of.

Why call it -gate instead of -hunt? Can PFnV change his text on that site?
Call it -gate is in reference to Nixon and implies secretive, shady, underhanded, uncommon cheating.
The Patriots did everything out in the open, came completely clean, and accepted punishment without even giving their side of the story (per orders from Goodell).
This is way more of a witch hunt than to compare it to Watergate.

Forget 'CameraHunt'. Let's call it what it really is - 'WitchHunt'.
