Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

Interesting.

Assuming Morris is healthy and a lock to be on the team (along with Maroney and Faulk), if Jones were to be on the roster he would have to play on special teams in addition to his RB duties. Not saying that he's not better than Eckel because he is but Eckel is a good guy on all the kick teams.

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

I remember reading somewhere that Belichick really liked him coming out of VT and that the Pats almost picked him in the '04 draft.

He would be a nice addition if he is healthy. Good back for receiving downs and short yardage situations.

Right, we had drafted Wilfork (and traded for Dillon) and when Jones was sliding we were interested in trading up to get Jones with the pick we ended up taking Ben Watson.

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

I like the idea of adding something to the running back position.

I am a little concerned about the injury but that is for our DRs to worry about.

Kevin Jones when healthy has shown some nice ability and on a crappy Detroit team. Could be real interesting to see a healthy Kevin Jones on one of the best instead of one of the worst.

ANYTHING to improve the team...get competition in camp..whether it be the top positions...or the 43rd to 53rd...it all matters...

Took the words out of my mouth.

This would be a pretty solid pickup, considering the possibility that Maroney, Faulk and Morris are all vulnerable to injury obviously. Guess it's more of a comfort thing.

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

Dare I say it...insurance if Faulk goes down.

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

Only problem is that KJ is the guy you pickup injury insurance *for*, not vice versa. I could see them keeping at extra RB on the roster this year with KJ as a potential heir apparent to Faulk. Will be real interesting if he signs ...

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

Perhaps they see himmas a PUP for the first 6 games, then make the decision.

Two years ago he had 66 catches, and he is a former 1000 yd. back. This guy would be a nice addition.

Re: RB Kevin Jones Met w/ Patriots (NFL Network)

Considering they didn't pick up a blocking TE this offseason why not throw more talent into the pool at RB? They could sign him to a minimal contract, put him on PUP to begin the season and he would be able to replace any of the 3 RBs (Maroney, Morris, or Faulk) if the injury bug hits.

No way you turn that down for the right price. That depth chart would be stoopid good.

Maroney
Morris
Faulk
Jones

It would take a catastrophe for this team not to have production out of the ground game. Wasn't it reported the Patriots wanna keep the air game fresh? This could.

Talk about a low risk, high reward situation. Jones has been pretty damn good and productive at times. Unfortunately hes been plagued with injuries. If Morris hadn't played so well last year before getting injured I'd say sign him up no questions asked.

Seriously, if Maroney were to go down I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Jones came and (assuming hes healthy) and was extremely productive for us. Of course he'd have to get ahead of Morris on the depth chart.

Considering that he also has the versatility to be a 3rd down back backup for us I'm real excited about the possibility. I think another team will come in and take him though, he has starter potential IMO.

When healthy (which is not often), Jones is a better back than Morris. He would also make an Excellent replacement for Faulk when he hangs them up.

I'd agree, that is, until last year. Morris had a 4.5 ypc average. I also loved the way he ran. I think many of us felt that he was putting Maroney to shame the beginning of the year.

I love Sammy, don't get me wrong. But there are a lot of RB's in the league who could have picked up 4.5pc with that passing attack.

A fully healthy Kevin Jones brings much more to the table from a pure talent stand point.

Agreed and some of it was in spot duty but I don't think I'm the only one that thinks he played a hell of a lot better than Lo Mo in the beginning. He was certainly more productive than our starter. Talent isn't everything. Nothing against Maroney, he played a lot better down the stretch.

If we can sign him cheap, then why not? Playing on a winning team always help you play better.
