read this article this AM, and still cannot figure out what it is about, my view is that the Patriots try every angle and every possibility to win, just because most of the rest of the coaches are dumb as rocks, shouldn't they try.. I guess open season on the Pats continues.. maybe Spinctre can investigate these allegations also..

With the advances have come new temptations for coaches to gain an unfair advantage. Every Monday during the football season, the league says, it fields complaints from and about many teams.

If a persistent problem is identified, the league’s eight-member competition committee suggests changes to rules. In discussions of changes since 2000, one team, the New England Patriots, has surfaced more than any other, according to a longtime N.F.L. team executive with direct knowledge of the meetings.

The committee heard accusations that the Patriots had taped opposing coaches’ signals, placed microphones on defensive players to steal quarterbacks’ audible signals and manipulated clocks and coach-to-quarterback radio systems....

The N.F.L. team executive said the changes to the manual matched complaints against the Patriots.

“When they change the rules, they don’t mention teams,” the executive said. “But in my mind, a lot of it was from New England.”

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

I am sure there committee also hears accusations about piped in sound and excessive heat in ther supposedly climate controlled dome stadia too. Of course if the competition committee is controlled by the representative of team against whom the complaints are made nothing will happen too.

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

Another hack job with no objectivity. Stacey James was even quoted in the article:

“We believe that this inquiry is patently biased and that a truly objective report would investigate all instances of these complaints, not exclusively those against the Patriots.”

The writers then ignored it. They state that their source says that most of the complaints are about the Patriots. What does that mean? Is that 90% or is that 15% with no other team being greater then 5%? Also, they only focused on the complaints against the Patriots. What are the nature of the complaints against other teams? What if there is something that is far worse there. Are there any other patterns there? It has been mentioned in the past about other teams losing their communications, it has also been mentioned about pumped in crowd noise. No mention of these other teams or violations what so ever. No objectivity at all.

Oh and here is one other matter that TOTALLY invalidates the article. It states that the Patriots are the ONLY team to have a complaint against them found to be true. "The league has handled the complaints internally, finding no proof for all but one.." Except that statement is FALSE. A complaint was filled by the Bears against the 49ers just this past free agent period, proof was found to justify the complaint, and punishment was issued. This was ignored however, to obviously just make the Patriots the focus. It is sad really that they actually have to publish false statements in order to push their agenda.

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

We should sue the NYT for printing crap like this. All we do is sit in here and complain. Take the complaints to the source.

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

There is nothing new in this story. The 'Source" is the guy who called Belichick,"Mentally Unstable"The Ny Times has sunk to a new lower level if that's possible.

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

“They were the only team, really,” the executive said. “Clearly, they were the team mentioned far more than anybody else.”

They were the ONLY team, but were mention far MORE than anyone else? Sentence #2 immediately contradicted sentence #1.
As a former linguist, that's like saying 'she's a little pregnant'.

“When they change the rules, they don’t mention teams,” the executive said. “But in my mind, a lot of it was from New England.”

"In my mind, a lot of it was from New England...."

??????

"In my mind"??????

Could he rationalize that any more? I thought New England was "the only team, really".

There's not a fact in that article, and two point-blank rebuttals by the league and NE. Just an anonymous source with an agenda, who contradicts himself repeatedly.

But NYT, let's not let that stand in the way of some good witch-hunting!

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

The article also mentis the language for taping was "reworded" in 2007.

Re: More NY Times Crap about the Patriots..

Also, the Patriots were apparently fine with te Dolphins taping in 2006, and so was the NFL.

Therefore, all this article shows is that, unlike the Patriots, there are a lot of whiny jealous haters in football, starting with the Jets and Colts.

There's a lesson here, people. Look how the supposedly elite media covers a topic where you know the facts. See how they distort the 'news' injecting their point of view, featuring (usually unattributed) statements the further the cause, and leaving out salient facts that might contradict their agenda.

Does this only happen with sports? I seriously doubt it. I see similar ignorance, but with somewhat less agenda (unless it's climate) in a great deal of reporting on science where I have a background.

My apologies to the many excellent journalists who strive to limit themselves just to unconscious bias.

This sh** just infruriates me to no end. This is obviously a last ditch effort to influence Goodell by publishing a biased article 2 days before the meeting with Walsh.

The media CAMPAIGN is ridiculous, unethical and purposefully damaging. Yet no one does a DAMN THING to stop it!

I have never seen anything like this in my 49 years on this earth. Maybe Watergate, but that's it. Think about that for a minute...Watergate & videotaping violation in the NFL...WOW!

I keep asking myself, why doesn't the Boston Globe come out with an article about the national bias on this issue and cite example such as the NY Times and just cut them to shreds?

And I honestly don't think the fact they are owned by the same company should be a factor. That is not supposed to be the nature of journalism.

.

You could probably say the same about the NY Times with regards to its own scandals (Jason Blair fabricating stories and sources among others like the allegations against Alexei Barrionuevo ) in addition to the recent political stories that they have backtracked on because they were false, ill sourced and just pushing a partisan agenda. (I didn't mention specifics to avoid hijacking this thread and having it pushed to the political forum)...The Times credibility has suffered as there have been crises after crises..

Because Boston is a baseball first town. Haven't you heard that?

The NY times jumped the shark.

Why don't the Patriots get on the Competition Committee?

Why don't the Patriots get on the Competition Committee?

Because the "anonymous" NFL Exec. quoted in the NY Times pieces won't give up his seat before his contract with the Indianapolis Colts is up.

It makes you wonder is the unnamed exec is named Polian doesn't it?

What this means to me is that the NY media doesn't think the Jets will ever finish ahead of the Patriots as long as BB is the coach and doing whatever they can to get him suspended so the Jets have a shot at being relevant in the AFC East.

Watch out Tuna as soon as they get Bill your next.

This article says it all. Were not only the main focus of the Comp. and rules comittees, we're the ONLY focus. Because the league is hell-bent on parity, or at least having select teams they want for a dynasty, they will always target NE.

Would this happen to Dallas? No. How about Goodell's favorite team? Of course not.

The best remedy for this situation: Continue to beat the crap out of everybody so they hate us even more. Eventually they will have to begrudginly concede that the Patriots are a modern day dynasty.

I will be laughing at every fan from other teams when they jelously call us "cheaters" after we yet again pummel and embarrass their pathetically inept team.

If all the rules are completely focused on our team preventing us from taking any advantage whatsoever, what excuse will all these fans and mediots have left to fall back on?

I have an answer: We're just better than you are.

Sukk on that jelous haters.
