Could Matt Walsh end up helping Pats?

I know that a lot of fans have been quick to trash Matt Walsh's credibility, however, what if his meeting with Goodell next week results in statements that actually help the Pats?

For example, based on some of the descriptions of the tapes that he turned over, one of them was apparently edited to show 2 camera angles at the same time. It's quite possible that Walsh may state that when he filmed games the camera remained with him the whole time and he did not show it to coaches at half time so that they could try and decipher signals (which has been THE main factor behind all the "cheating" claims). If he describes a process in which the game videos were then submitted to the teams video department in the days following games for editing, etc, that would lend support to Belichick's exact explanation for how the tapes were used.

If he somehow ends up making comments that further diminish the perceived impact of the video tapes, what's going to be the impression of Walsh then?

He's been called a liar ever since the news broke about him, would he now suddenly be a truthful person?

Not a chance. If he says anything favorable to the Pats, they will say he was bought off. The only good result IMO would be for him to be a guest of the Commonwealth in Walpole for a few years.:rocker:

Why not? If Walsh somehow confirms Belichick's explanation that the tapes were not used during games to try and break down signals, that helps them out tremendously.

The entire basis for the haters agenda is that the Patriots got an advantage because they used the tape at half time. Statements to the contrary blow a huge hole in that theory.

The NFL already know the story of the tapes and how they were used. If Walsh comes up with a different story, he would have to prove it in some way. If he comes up with the same story, it doesn't help or hurt the Patriots.

What hurt the Patritots was Goodell flying off the handle and laying down overly harsh punishment and making a much bigger deal in the media than what it was. There should have been some punishment, a mid round pick and some fine. It should have been done more quietly without the big announcement so the media dogs could feed on it.

I think you are off here. What Walsh says to Goodell can DEFINITLEY help or hurt the Patriots. It won’t hurt them in terms of league punishment (if he can’t prove it), but in terms of public opinion it will have an absolute impact.

If he comes out and says that they never broke down film at halftime, I would suspect that some major media outlets will run with that story, and it will help the Pats image (some). However, if Walsh goes in there and claims that they WERE attempting to break down signals at the half... uhhgh. Im getting depressed just thinking about what the media will do with that kind of conformation (true or not). It will be devastating.

Yup, exactly. I'm astounded at how overblown this whole thing continues to be in relation to the impact these tapes had on actual team performance, which was somewhere between zero and incredibly minor. Time and time again, rival fans and media people -- especially those on TV -- overstate the "crime" and its possible impact on the Patriots' fortunes. They're even going as far as to suggest that Brady would be a mediocre quarterback without help from the "cheater tapes." Makes me want to puke.

If media people say that well...they PLAINLY do not understand the game...mouths that move say things but with no knowledge of the game...ESPM fits in here nicely..to me while it also makes me sick, it makes me realize how FEW of those IN THE nedia have a clue as to what the game is about. So..once I know who these idiots are..they have NO crediblility with me..the ONLY time I have watched ESPN in the lasr months was during the draft and then..really not for commentary but to get the picks...was also streaming NFLN as well (much better coverage).

Why did he not have his lawyer say, back in February, that he was not the Herald's source and the evidence he has (now "had") was unrelated to any alleged Super Bowl walkthrough?

He could have thrown some water on this whole story and at the same time made himself look like less a fool.

My guess is his lawyer advised him not to say anything. That is what they usually do in this case. I think this totally media driven by the likes of the Herald. I bet Walsh just wanted to keep playing golf.
