Re: Tomasse

Didn't he wind up on the Pats beat because he got tossed off the Sox beat for being a dinkus?

No I think he got on the beat because Felger, opened his mouth to many times...

Huh. Because I've heard many different times from different sources that he was on the Sox beat and got tossed.

Boston Herald Sports Writer
Patriots beat writer John Tomase joined the Herald in 2005 after six years covering the Red Sox.

He made himself persona non grata at Fenway.

Re: Tomase

Anyone who would threaten Tomase's family is a nutjob and certainly does not represent the Patriot fan base, if that is the insinuation.

Law abiding patriot fans have every right to be outraged by Tomase's irresponsible reporting.

Re: Tomase

Yes, Paul Perrillo and Casale did agree that Tomase's Patriot Beat is most likely over very soon.

Re: Tomase

It is wrong to threaten him or his family, but that was the day of the superbowl, not today.

He deliberately broke a story, knowing full well what effect it would have. If you are saying it was just his job and not personal, then fine. He screwed up his job and should be fired. Not personal, you libeled the Pats, now you're fired.

Many people say that they are "as diehard a fan as anyone," and every time someone has said that, it was in the middle of a post that exhibited no diehard fan talk or behavior.

If you were a casual fan, you could find it in your heart to feel badly for Tomase. If you were a diehard fan, you wouldn't wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire, because what he did was inexcusable. I am a diehard fan, and I hope he gets fired and blackballed from journalism. Forever.

I will feel that way unless he admits what a scumbag thing he did and begs Pats fans for forgiveness. Only then would I forgive him and will wish him the best in some other city. Until he does that, I hope his life turns to crap.

Diehard fan. Not a touchy feely fan.

I know Tomasse probably is feeling pretty low, and he is the main focus.. He wrote a bad story about our team.. The story sucks, he is not the best Boston patriot beat writer ever, and he probably went to far and did not do his homework, and was worried about his job..

But Im as die hard of a fan as anybody, and this story of spygate and how my team is portrayed is important to me, but I think he was afraid of not breaking a story, and losing his job.. We can tell him about how we feel, and how wrong he is, but he is not alone , his name is attached to the story, along with Matt Fish at Espn, Greg Easterbrook, and Arlen Specter is to blame..

I hear stories, that his family is threatened, his wife and new baby.. That is a little crazy, I would never do that, and I dont think as fans we should go that far..

He is wrong and should have checked his fact before he printed it, he should come out and say what he knew , or he made a mistake.. But let us fans not go and threaten his family, but I hope this is a lesson for him, and when he is a beat writer for the red sox, he need better creditable sources..

No way do I want anyone's family, hurt over this, everyone has a job..
And I dont think anyone else wants harm to others, we would like some justice but not harm to family and family memebers...

Well the timing was very bad, and I do agree he should have checked out his sources a little bit better.. Dont get me wrong, the story, and the reporting of it, is inexcusable... I think his carrer in boston journalism is on very thin ice at best... I hate espn a little more ,because it seems like they bring it up every minute...

Re: Tomase

Dumbasse and the Herald timed their release for maximum impact. Boo-hooing because it got the kinds of strong reactions that they were looking for is just ridiculous. He should have been run out of town on a rail, along with any of the higher ups that greenlighted the article. There is no excuse for a home town paper to be the one breaking a story like this just hours ahead of the Super Bowl.

Re: Tomase

F**K Tomassh0le. You reap what you sow.

As for his family and kids. They get my pity, not my scorn.

Damn right, they knew what they were doing, dumbasse should lose his job and go work for some small town newspaper for 15K a year, and the Herald deserves whatever comes their way.

Re: Tomase

Let the innocent not be harmed
and the guilty not go unpunished.

Re: Tomase

OK, I for one find this thread shocking.

Tomase is not a virgin?

Re: Tomase

I hadn't heard that. Unreal. Is this a fact or just a rumor?

Go with mediot spin. We've had Herald writers on EEI and/or Sports Tonight just about every day since Tomase wrote his lie and they have never spoken of this, But now Tomasole is looking reaaaaally bad and suddenly his fellow pigskin mediots spew this?? Hmmmm...... Tomase should be fired but won't be The best we can hope for is his banning from Gillette. Let him go cover the Red Sox. I'm sure Schill and Co. will love that and will greet him with open arms. :D

What I found shocking was that it was some writer from New England that did that...With all the Patriot haters in so many cities, I would have expected that if a story broke it would have come out of NY or another city, trying to derail the team...but from here?? THAT was a bit shocking..despite the Globe's feeble attempts to do the same thing with Jackie McLyer et all. Karma...I'm sorry..I don't feel all that bad for Mr Dumbasse..did he really give a damn about all the damage his story would cause?? Of cours enot.. it was f*** everyone..truth be damned.. No integrity..when you do something like that..it all comes out later in the wash. As I said before...if he KNEW that the story was not trie..was not comfortable with that he could have balked at it and had a LOT of integrity...but he chose another path.

Re: Tomase

Things like this have a way of working themselves out. The Herald cannot let this guy go, that would be admitting guilt and Tomase can't print a retraction unless the Herald lets him.

Remember what happened to Borges and Lisa Olsen. Borges wrote the infamous "Patriots on drugs" article that got published the day after the Patriots got crushed by the Bears. He acutally sat on it until aafter the season was over, and he became persona non grata at all things Patriots. I believe he even left the paper for a few years until Kraft bought the team. Lisa Olsen ruins Zeke Mowatt's reputation, by all accounts he was a very respectful guy, and ends up in Austrailia for a few years. Seems Lisa had a reputation of hanging out by the showers waiting for the players to come out so she could get her interviews.

In both cases the scenario was carried out the same way. Both writers stayed on the Patriots beat for a while afterward, but the players wouldn't talk to either of them. Lisa Olsen even sued because she couldn't get any interviews I think. Within a couple of years they were both out of town.

John Tomase seems like he is a pretty nice guy, but he was st best sloppy with his reporting. He has damaged his papers reputation and his papers relationship with the Patriots. The papers best Patriots reporter, Mike Felger, also is so damaged at Foxboro that they had to bring in Tomase to do the beat stuff. If Tomase's family is getting threatened then the people who are doing it should be beaten to a pulp.

Tomase is on his way out. If you listened to the radio yesterday the Herald was out in full force defending Tomase against the critisism being leveled against him. Calihan started at 6:00, Tony Maz on the afternoon show was his typical pompus, self rightous self telling the world that he was only doing his job, and Felger was just over the top. Looks like Tomase is going to be reporting for the Middlesex News again, soon.

Re: Tomase

He's a fat sack of trash and a worthless pile of ****s but he shouldn't fear for his life or his family's wellbeing.

Also, he should not be unemployed b/c of this. He was trying to break a big story but took a big gamble and was sleazy. They should just not let him cover the pats or the nfl anymore.

They should also restrict his access to the vending machine.

But leave his family alone. anyone who threatens him or his family is a weak scumbag.

Sean,You are exactly correct .There are always some clowns who take things way too far and end up embarassing themselves.I want no harm to come to John Tomase or his family but the honorable thing for Him to do is to resign from the Herald. This action would show a little character, yet all He has done is to hide under his desk.Character always shows itself.

Re: Tomase

I wish no harm to him or his family. He and whoever else was behind the article should be removed from the Herald. Let Murdoch put them on the National Enquirer or NY Post where their lack journalistic ethics would be useful,
