This is classic stuff and about what I expected. Opened with Dale chronicling that with all that is going on in sports today...yet the biggest story in sports this AM is that SOMEBODY HAS NOTHING (with Whitney crooning in the background LOL).

103 days to get to... NOTHING. Dale is on his game today like an avenging angel!

Michael has extended an invitation to Tomase to appear on their show today. As he is sure have others. So far no response. Dale and Holley are reiterating that on February 2nd they said that if you were going to hang your hat on one source in that piece - it better be right.

They are now detailing where Tomase went wrong, particularly if Levy's client has told him the truth that he was not the source of the February 2nd story in the Herald. They are wondering if Tomase never had a source beyond the rumors he had heard and perhaps his own conversations with Walsh. If he in fact ran with the story simply because he saw the NYT outing Walsh by name as sufficient confirmation that he must have something...and it was certainly the tape...

They are also noting that the Herald has turned off the comment function on John's blog (once again...). That happened last night, I checked. Bottom line they say Tomase must address this one way or another. Otherwise the logical assumption is he caved to pressure and did something he should not have. Only way he can recover is to throw himself on the mercy of the court (public and peer opinion). If he tries to pretend it didn't happen or people will just forget about it over time, not gonna fly. It's like they are talking to him over the airwaves.

Dale talked to Stacey James this AM and asked if the team planned to sue the Herald. Stacey said he had no comment. Dale wants them to "sue their ass", while Holley (as a journalist and from a practical point) says they should not. Holley wants to spread the blame between the Herald and the NYT as well as to the team for opening the door by taping at all (although he admits there were ZERO questions about Spygate in the media run up to the Superbowl UNTIL FEBRUARY 2ND when Tomase ran with his story). Dale however contends that what the Herald did re-ignited what was a closed matter. Holley is now talking about how Goodell's mistake in over reacting to the initial taping should also be instructive to those in positions of power going forward - be careful what you unleash as in doing so you may create more problems for yourself than you ever imagined.

Dale is now covering how the tapes turned over back up the contention that the tapes were never intended to be used in real time because of the way they were edited to show multiple angles of the plays that ensued. This was never more than a scouting tool.

Dale is now taking Fish to task...saying if he uses the Greg Aiello quote on the league's position on these tapes - he has no article. Irresponsible journalism. Even Holley says, if he is a columnist, fine - he can spew opinion. But if his title as it appears on the article is as that of an Investigative Reporter, it is not.

They are working on several avenues to advance the story. Today should be must hear radio on WEEI...

I have always maintained that Tomase never had a real source, but just attributed the rumor that everyone in the media has heard to an unnamed source. The fact that there were so many vague aspects of the piece (not knowing if the cameraman acted alone or if Belichick ever knew about the taping even after) it seemed to me that they were trying to tread a very fine line of being the first to report the story and not opening the Herald up to liability. The line looks to have been crossed anyway.

I do think that the Herald needs to either retract the story or publically stand by their source.

I know you can listen on the internet, but is it archived so I can catch it later? I love Dale and Holley--I think they're about the best sports guys out there.

And I like how you described it "avenging angel".

If that's true, why are you opening threads about it?

Out of curiosity.

Opening. As in "why are you clicking on and reading threads about spygate/tomase".

New Word

Fat John stands to gain immortality from this self-serving caper.
The English language gains a verb, as
to "tomase" someone means to defame without basis, to libel.

You opened the thread to read about it. MoLewisrocks started the thread. John Tomase? Is that you? Or is that you, Mike Fish?

Friggin attempting to spin the fact that you got called out.

He meant:

W-H-Y D-I-D Y-O-U C-L-I-C-K Y-O-U-R M-O-U-S-E T-H-I-N-G-Y O-N I-T?

For the record, I started the thread, you opened it...

If you are sick to death of this story, what you want is it to end. It can't end until all the loose ends (and cannons) are tied up so to speak. They say wakes and funerals are for the living, to give them time to deal with their emotions in a supportive environment and gain closure. Today the wake begins for spygate, and maybe Tomase as well. Funeral is scheduled for next Tuesday in NY.

But if you don't want to attend either, that's fine. Just go curl up in a ball and deal with the death of spygate pivately. We'll let you know when it's safe to come out from under the covers and rejoin the fanbase publicly - after we've achieved closure.

Great summary of the situation. I'm glad that somebody is putting these inept media reporters to task. Hope Tomase goes down in a ball of flame. His irresponsible reporting that the pats had a walkthrough of the rams is nearly on par with Jacksons "the players hate their coach" line, except it's more serious because of the potential consequences for the team. Tomase and the Herald need to be held accountable.

Umm, no. When you "Open" a thread in a forum, you create it.

Yeah, I'm John Tomase. You sure are perceptive. Maybe you should apply for a Private Investigator's license.

Exactly. That's why this is a Message Board - - not a unified blog.

People have choices as to which thread they want to click on. That's why there is a list and pages.

If Oldskool has a problem with this particular discussion, he can bypass it and go to another one. It's that easy. PatriotsReign had the same problem if anyone was talking about Spygate. Folks, this place is a buffet. Quit whining about a few of the plates offering broccoli - - honestly, no one is forcing you to eat it.

Okay, fellas, you got me...

I give up.

Today is V-Day. V for Vindication. All us Patriot fans having been waiting for this day since Septemeber and it is finally upon us. We were all sick about hearing about the supposed stuff they had on the Patriots which we all knew they never did.

I think something should be said for Matt Walsh and his Lawyer Michael Levy just allowing the misinformation to continue. Shouldn't of Walsh or Levy downplayed the info that they supposedly had? All Walsh had was the stuff the NFL already knew. This could have been a dead issue if Walsh just said he had the same info the NFL already knew the Patriots did and this would be dead now. I think Walsh and Levy just wanted the spotlight to themselves and let these issues linger on so they could get their 15 minutes.

I'm not sick of THIS part of the story. No way. I deserve this as someone who, like all of us fans, suffered through this crap for the last few months as well as a hideous end to a surreal season. This is the part we want. Where it turns out that there was nothing new and no stupid walkthrough tape and this crap was all for nothing. Now the What did he know? (oh, nothing new, turns out) speculation can stop.

I don't give a **** about other fans who still won't be convinced. That would happen no matter what.

You bring up an important point:

“Mr. Walsh has never claimed to have a tape of the walk-through,” Levy said in a telephone interview. “Mr. Walsh has never been the source of any of the media speculation about such a tape. Mr. Walsh was not the source for the Feb. 2 Boston Herald article.”

Levy has been Walsh's attorney for at least 2 months now. He could not have put that statement about the Ram's tape out there before last night?

Why did Levy let the Rams Tape misinformation linger?
