Draft grades are in

Yet another analysis by a "scout" who cannot find work among the hundreds of NFL scouts, and yet who judges teams based on what he would have done.

Even then, he doesn't make sense. He says Mayo will be one of the top three players taken in the draft, that Wheatley will surpass Meriweather, and that Grable will be an effective pass rusher. Yet the grade is "C-" because Slater is undersized and was a WR in name only, just a STer, that our develomental QB needs to improve (Duh!), and he questions Ruud's heart.

Okay, fine, if the last three rounds are more important than the first three rounds, I guess his grade makes sense.

I glanced at a couple of the other teams and see the same nonsense, so it isn't like he has a thing against the Pats or for the Panthers ("A"), it's just that he's clueless and inconsistent in general.

He gave the Jets an "F" because he doesn't like Gholston. no one ver confused me with being a Jets fan :D but this is nonsense. Even if Gholston does work to expectations, selecting a consensus top 10 player in the top 10 does not merit an '"F."

There are at least a dozen posters in this forum, and I suspect in every team forum, that would do a better job than this guy.

Hold on a second...I generally agree with your criticisms, but don't we always bash draft grades that are based solely on whether the teams took players at the "right" spots based on media rankings? Now we're bashing a draft grade for ignoring media rankings and giving a personal assessment of the player!

Aw, what the heck, bash away! :)

(My pet peeve is the one about downgrading an entire draft because a player was a "huge reach" at the end of the 6th.)

It's weird to give a C- when you seem to like the draft until the last few picks. I have no clue what he's getting at with Wheatley vs. Meriweather as I expect them to play different positions.

Based on his comments I would have expected a B as he seems to like our more important picks

Considering Matt Slater is not a WR might explain his lack of receptions. Also, how can you question the heart of a Ruud?

I suspect he is a complete MORON to grade INDY as better than us.

Bash all the 'Draft Grades' - who the hell knows right away how good these players are / will be in the NFL ?!!?
Just like Reggies Bush was the next Gale Sayers
or Ricky 'puff dragon' williams was the next ****erson / Earl Campbell
or Mike Mammula will be the best pass rusher ever....

it happens every year - the hype!! It all depends on the NFL team's system / coaching / etc...too many variables to know right away...

At least they give lots of D's and F's. Hard on the Pats but worse on the Jets. Take it for what it is..

I didn't find the comments to be that hard on the Pats. In fact I think it was better than what I expected. I disagree about the comment made regarding Wheatley.

Merriweather is being very much underestimated. I believe he will make a major contribution this season.

I second your state of confusion. It was a puzzling entry to label C-. Particularly puzzling was the Meriweather-Wheatley comparison.

Grading drafts is simply an exercise in egotism by the writer.

Anyone have this guys grades from 2-3 years ago?

Our 2005 draft got a similar grade and produced Mankins, Hobbs,

Kaczur, and Sanders.

The early draft grades are stupid. I donj't care what some "expert" says the day after, if you are not excited about your teams draft the day after than you need some help or your team didn't pick till round 4 like cleveland. Even than you say ya bu we got our guy last year and we got dlinemen with the others traded picks.

This paragraph makes my head hurt :bricks:

I think I agree with you, if you are saying what I think you are saying.

I'm not a fan of "this player was a reach because the consensus was he isn't that good," but at the same time, to give a draft grade of an "F" becuase the grader thinks that a generally thought of as good player will be a total bust is a bit egocentric for me. And I hate to be in the position of defending the Jets, too :(

I saws that, also. Kind of funny and it didn't inspire confidence in the rest of his rhetoric.

Your last sentence says it all !. I will say it's a little too early to say Bush is a bust. he may just become the next Gale Sayers, he has only played two seasons. Look at OJ Simpson's stats, he struggled his first few seasons, and then became a Hall of Famer. If drafted by the Texans instead who know's what Bush would have done his first 2 seasons. Also, I believe Ricky Williams had a few 1500+ yard seasons before he flaked out, lol.

If what he thinks is true, and Mayo becomes a "top 3 player from this draft" then automatically the Patriots should get an A for saving about 35 million in cap space over the next 6 years.

The way this guy grades reminds me of the Madden draft grader. It doesn't matter if I drafted two players with 85+ ratings in round 1 and then an 83 and 81 in rounds 2 and 3, the guy is still gonna give my team an F! LOL, who knows what makes scouts happy. What matters is that you got the right guys for your team. We're drafting football players and building teams here, not looking to impress the scouts by taking the guys THEY like! Besides you ask 10 different scouts to draft the Pats draft and I bet you'll get 10 different scores.

The draft is like MickyD's, "I'm lovin' it" until I actualy eat it (or watch it) then I'm left with a lump in my stomach and sense of unfulfillment. I'm split between the two draft camps: 1 being, the draft is the singular most important event in any given sports year as it will tell the future of my team (which happens to be the team God himself favors most); or 2. i don't know who these people are and have no reason to know 97% of them . . . let's face it, we are all just wasting our time. I feel like #1 before the draft and #2 after (that #2 thing just made me realize from where the MickyD's reference spawned).

Anyway, a linebacker, nay - middle linebacker, with skinny legs, a corner shorter than my prom date, and a OLB who could run through walls if they didn't cut makes me nervous. Did I mention that I tend toward the pesimistic? Pesimistic as I may be, I'm rooting for every one of them, and . . . I'm lovin' it. G36

my friend is a HUGE Pats fan. Im going to have to tell him about this place.
