The best thing about htis mock is that:

Miami picks at #4
Jets at #10
Buffalo at #17

And the Patriots at #32..

OTOH this is a terrible pick, they did not get the best "value" should have traded all their picks for the 3rd pick.. :D:D

Good to see that the Pats won the Super Bowl.

Hmm does anybody have some info on Cushing? He's got real good size for our system if he's 6'5 248.

I must admit that the guy I really covet is Maualuga. If he falls to #15 range, I think BB moves up to take him with our 1st round pick + the 2nd we got from San Diego.

A low #2 isn't going to move you up half of the first round. We had the fun of looking at the top players in this year's (unfortunately weak at the top) draft but it's back to the same old bottom half in 2009.

Unless the Ravens are picking there, then we can probably get it for a couple 3rds! :singing:

So here's a hard question, would you give up the Pats #1, #2, and #3 picks for Maualuga, knowing that we had the 2nd rounder from SD in reserve?

I'm hoping we don't get Cushing for one reason... I don't want to hear this prhase/headline, "Pats new LB offers more Cushing for the Pushing..." I don't think I could survive the emotional scars. LOL.

At 6'5" you'd think he'd be able to add another 10-15 lbs (reasonably). This isn't gonna be anything amazing, but according to the following link, Cushing played a stand up DE role in '06 after coming in as a LB as a freshman. The link says he was put in because of his abilities in the running game there and was allowed to stand up because of his experience as a LB instead of attempting to change his style of play. I think he played more LB last season as a SLB. He's an intriguing player from a versatility standpoint and size, but you'll have to talk to someone who's followed him closer for how effective he is at both spots.

Someone to follow this year, I presume.

Edit: You'll have to sift through some schematic analysis if you don't trust my summary.

If Maualuga is on the board in the low-teens, I'd have no problem giving Pats first and both seconds for him.

What did Jax just have to pay to move up to take Harvey?

Just for his placement of the Pats/Jets and Phins - I like this guy.

And, almost certainly, a third-round pick for losing Asante Samuel. . . .

Cushing was already a big kid coming out of HS. He went through Strong Man training (think "Worlds Strongest Man" on ESPN), and came in as an athletic LB prospect. He then gained some weight and switched over to DE/34 OLB, where he actually had what I think was his best season. In 2007 he had a few injury problems, and his totals went down, but he actually had another solid season.

That 2006 season where he was their elephant:

57 Total Tackles, 13.5 Tackles For Loss, 4.5 Sacks, 1 Pass Defensed, 1 Forced Fumble, and one blocked kick.

Out of all the LB's on the team, the one I've really wanted to see on the Patriots has been Rey Maualuga. If he had declared early, he would have been the best LB in the draft, and he would be an absolute beast in the middle for NE.

I have to be honest, although I love linebackers, seeing as they really are awesome to watch in our defensive alignment, I really doubt BB goes linebacker in the first round two years in a row. I feel like its way more likely we go D-line or O-line (although of course that all depends on if there is value at those spots depending on where we end up picking.) Basically if Hobson, Crable, and Mayo all pan out (and that is a big IF, for sure, although I think they all have definite promise) I don't see why BB would throw another #1 pick at the linebacking group.

I don't know if you were aware of this, but I think that there were several
questions as to whether Cushing was/is gay. I have no problem with it just
wanted to point it out

Why?? You think it will make him want to jump on a QB or something?

If Cushings runs well. Then I am estatic to have him.

If BB can "spread the Mayo" to some hapless team in order to move up to draft Muaunlga then so much the better.

:wha:

Are you seriously suggesting the Patriots should trade Mayo?

Less than they would have to grab Jared Allen.
